So as you can tell I've recently bought a PS3 Slim 250GB bundled with two movies (Wolverine II & The Dark Knight) and a BR Remote. I will place an order on Amazon this weekend for Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2, FIFA10 & Ratchet & Clank Future: ToD (AciT coming later).

Can you PS3 owners recommend me some good games please? I love action adventure games as well as RPGs. I cannot wait for The Last Guardian, GOWIII and FFXIII for example. I especially want a 'party' game ala Mario Kart Wii!

Plus (this is for Cort) can you recommend me all the best PSN games? I know I'm getting Wipeout HD, Quest for Booty & Flower. Anything else?

NB: I will be able to actually use the PS3 this Christmas!

congrats!

it's been awhile since i've had a working ps3, but don't forget about Echochrome. unique puzzler-ish type of game.

If you're looking for party-ish games, maybe the new Bomberman Ultra will help out.

Also worth checking into: Pixeljunk Eden, Monsters. Super Stardust HD, Everyday Shooter. Maybe Warhawk or Battlefield 1943 depending on your personal tastes. Fatal Inertia EX is also a futuristic racer to consider if you like Wipeout HD.

If you're more adventurous or experimental, there's Noby Noby Boy, LocoRoco Cocoreccho, Linger in Shadows, The Last Guy.

If you like RPG type titles, don't forget about Folklore. Beautiful game that's also entertaining.

Congrats man, I only just got my PS3 last week and I love it.

I'd suggest inFamous. Sure it's not GOTY-league but it's a lot of fun if you like open world games. Also if you're in the mood for a racing game, between now and GT5, NFS: Shift is really good. Best NFS for a long time, if ever IMO. On the RPG side of things I hear very good things about Valkyria Chronicles and Eternal Sonata looks nice (I have yet to get either though). So you might want to check those out.

Personally I'm planing to get Uncharted (the first one before the second), MW2, Valkyria Chronicles, Flower, LittleBigPlanet, Echochrome, Killzone 2, R&C: A Crack in Time, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Eternal Sonata and MGS4. As well as obviously upcoming stuff like GoW III, FFXIII, Last Guardian and GT5.

In other words, way more than I could possibly afford. XD

I'd like to get Folklore, it is really on my radar to be honest. I'll probably try SS HD and one of the Pixeljunk series. I hope one can play split screen in Wipeout HD because that is mostly what I'm getting it for.

What do you think about Dragon Age Origins Cort? Do you think it is any good? I'm in desperate need of an RPG. Haven't played a console one since Final Fantasy X!

I hate simulation racers so Shift and GT5 is a no go for me. inFamous is something I'm looking into as well as eventually buying Uncharted 1 and R&C:AciT. Any word on a Jak & Daxter PS3 version? I miss the series and, apart from not owning a PSP. I want one from ND.

Nothing much to add that hasn't already been said, but I can heartily endorse MGS4, Valkyria Chronicles, Little Big Planet, Super Stardust HD (extremely addictive) and Eternal Sonata (the PS3 version has additional playable characters and new outfits for certain characters, making it the superior version). I played the demo of Folklore and couldn't get into it.

I'll probably pass on Dragon Age due to a lack of multiplayer and a lack of the D&D license. But if you're into action RPGs, it's probably a good one. Mass Effect was great despite being a shooter/RPG hybrid with clunky combat.

A friend of mine is going to lend me LBP - I'm a big fan of platformers so if it clicks I'd deffo pick it up. I'll look into Eternal Sonata as well thanks! And sorry Golbez, I hate the Metal Gear series!

Which would you guys prefer? Eternal Sonata or Folklore?

I heard Dragon Age is quite good, but suffers a little bit on the consoles due to their inherent disadvantages in regards to RTS mechanics. It's supposed to be super long though, so it'd probably be something to keep your eye on for more reviews if you're into the type of game. Personally I'm not a huge fan of medieval setting so games like that don't really interest me too much. Not unless they're really amazing anyway.

Also yes Wipeout HD is splitscreen. It's one of the very few racing games on the system that is to be honest.

Thanks for making this thread, I was going to make one as well. Im getting a PS3 for Christmas (my Dad is terrible at keeping secrets) so I was wondering what games to tell him to get. Although I know about almost every major Playstation game release, this will be my first Sony platform so its unfamiliar territory for me.

This is not my first Sony platform since I have owed both of the previous home consoles except for the PSP (which I still cannot find any incentive to own).

What are your gaming tastes?

Look what Amazon just emailed me:

Would it be wholly inappropriate to quote the commercial and say:

Well, I was going to recommend CoD, UC2, and R&C but, well, you got them already.
>_>

What about Assassin's Creed 2?
If you're looking for a good action RPG, you might want to look into Demon's Soul although I hear it's extremely hard. A caution if you're not into hard games.

As for a party type game, there's Mod Nation Racers, which looks a lot like an amalgamation of Mario Kart and LBP.

 Yep I got them alright! After Christmas (literally on the 26th) I'll order Assassin's Creed 2 off of Amazon. I'm not getting it before because I don't have any cash left whatsoever since I am buying my gf the new Nano for Christmas as well as having to buy presents for her family and mine!

Demon's Souls hasn't released here in Europe but I'm already looking into importing it. I'm a bit confused on what should I get - Demon's Souls or Dragon Age? I'm very into RPGs and I've already 'Saved for later' on Amazon Eternal Sonata and Valkyria Chronicles!

Thanks for all the recommendations guys! If any of you own any PS3 RPGs from the ones mentioned in this post can you give me any impressions please? Pretty please??

I was just going to mention Demon's Souls. Excellent game - punishing, but fair. In other words, you'll die a lot, but you'll rarely feel like your death was a cheap one. It's a difficult game, but one that's very hard to stop playing.

Eternal Sonata vs. Dragon Age depends on if you're looking for a more traditional JRPG or a single-player western action RPG.
