PS3 sales up 999%

As the Slim launched apparently PS3 sales went up here in the UK by 999% according to ChartTrack - outselling both the Wii and the 360. Certainly pretty impressive. I wonder how long Sony can keep this momentum up?

Holy crap, 999%? What did the PS3 Slim launch at in the UK as compared to the original price? I know ever since the PS3 launch it's sold poorly compared to the 360 and Wii over in the UK, right? Probably had something to do with the launch price of 500 pounds, IIRC.

The PS3 Slim is £250 and I think the standard version before that was somewhere around £300 or so. Sony have been marketing the PS3 quite heavily over the past few weeks though around the systems launch, so that's obviously had a effect too.

To be honest, I'm not sure how well the system has done, overall, compared to the 360 over here. Sony have said in the past the PS3 has outsold the 360 in Europe, despite the latter being launched a year and a half earlier. But going off people I know, the vast majority of them own 360s or Wiis. So I'm not sure. I think the main area for 360 dominance is still the US though. As I say I'm not sure though, and I don't trust VGChartz' accuracy.

That's right, $599 in the US, and it was £425 in the UK, according to a quick Google search, or roughly $850. I also think the US is probably the most 360-heavy area.

yea... i think it is too... most of my friends have a 360... but lately, allot of people have been trading in their 360's and wii's at play n trade to get a ps3slim.

I don't think it'll last much if the console doesn't get more good games...

If I ever get a PS3, I'll get... like 2 games for it. If it didn't have Blu-Ray, I wouldn't even consider buying it.

I do have to wonder.. since they've dropped the price (YAY), doesn't that mean that they're losing more money per console manufactured now regardless of how many more sales they're making? Anyone know the scoop on that?

Having a legitimate opinion isn't really trolling (unless he's known for trolling, but I wouldn't guess so from your reply). Personally, the only titles I would buy a PS3 for (since I have a 360 and a Wii already) would be Metal Gear and Uncharted.. which is, like with 8 bit, a measly 2 games. It's not being a troll or a fanboy, it's just a matter of what I find interesting or worthwhile as far as their exclusives go. After that, the only major draw left is Blu-Ray. 8 bit simply seems to have a similar perspective, and I can't really blame him for it.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Uncharted 2. Make that 3 games. Wish I had the money for all this..

sony reported this summer that their manufacturing costs have been reduced about 70%. they didn't give exact cost figures, but based on previous numbers, that would put it between 210-240$ per unit, which means at 299$ retail, it should be making a profit.

Actually, most of the PS3 exclusives are very unappealing to me as well.

UC2 is only the second exclusive I'm considering.
