360 downloadable games

Postby littleman00 » 09 Sep 2009 15:18

Ok, I've been a 360 owner for a year now and have yet to purchase anything online. I'm ready to make the leap, but I'm not sure what to get and I've narrowed it to two: Shadow Complex or Battlefielf 1943. Same price, different games.

Anti-gay controversy aside, is Shadow Complex good enough to pay $15 for it? Or should I 'play it safe' and get the multiplayer game that seems fun (I played the demo), but gameplay is quite old (still solid, but showing its age)?

Man, that's a TOUGH choice. I'd say get both, but that's the easy way out, right? I guess it depends what type of gamer you are or what your tastes in games is. Personally, I'ma big fan of the FPS genre, so BF 1943 was a no-brainer for me. I've already put 30 hours into it, so it was a 15 dollars well spent. Although there are only 4 maps for the game, the openness provides all the variety you need. I love it.

On the other hand, from what I hear, Shadow Complex is an amazing game and a steal at $15. I will get this one eventually as well, but not having played it, I can't offer you any insight on its quality. It was strongly inspired by Metroid, and that's all I really need to pick it up.

Bottom line: If you're a multiplayer, FPS fan get BF 1943. If you're not really into multiplayer games and are content to go solo, SC is the game for you.

Oh, and what't the anti-gay controversy surrounding Shadow Complex? This is the first I've heard of it. Compared to most of the idiots on Xbox Live, it must be bad to be considered anti-gay....

The demo for Shadow Complex gives you enough of the game to know whether or not you'll like it by the time you reach the end. If you like Symphony of the Night and Super Metroid you should feel at home with this.

i would agree with deltaone. BF1943 is only a shooter multiplayer game. I can get old quick if you don't find a great group of friends to play with. It can also make you angry because there is only one game type. I had a lot of fun with it, but kind of grew out of it after a few weeks. I am not familiar with shadow complex, but i just wanted to forewarn you about BF1943. i love the game, but it could be a short buy for you.

The source material is based off of Orson Scott Card's Empire novel. Card, aside from being an accomplished and prolific science fiction writer, is also not that fond of homosexuals or the prospect of same-sex marriage, and has made it known. From what I understand, the game itself, and the game's creators, do not present any kind of bias toward gays. However, there's a very vocal group of gamers that have decided to donate to pro-gay causes to compensate for any money Card would get from Shadow Complex; some have even gone as far as to boycott the game outright.

Here's one of the many, many posts on the Net about this issue:
http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2009/08/s ... x-boycott/

Regardless of my own opinions on gays or gay marriage, I wouldn't have a problem buying Shadow Complex simply because the developers themselves apparently do not present their opinions in the game. If they did, then I'd have an issue.

That's a good idea. There's no way I'd be able to boycott this game, that's for sure. I highly suggest Shadow Complex, by the way.

If you own any decent online shooter similar to BF1943, dont get it. Its a pretty shallow game IMO. Shadow Complex is decent, but only if you like Metroid-esque games.

I say get Castle Crashers.

Shadow Complex looks great, though I haven't played the demo yet. Forget about the retarded "controversy". Symphony of the Night is a good purchase if you haven't played it yet, or even if you have and just want to play it again. I played BF1943 for about 10 minutes and it just didn't do anything for me. Castle Crashers is fun, but repetitive and got old pretty quickly.

The Turtles in Time remake is also fun, but I don't like the new look as well as the old graphics. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is great...and there's also Monkey Island SE as well as the Sam & Max series. It all depends on what type of games you like.
