I've only played Tales of the Abyss, and I think its just ok. Only 5 hours in though, and not really a big RPG guy... probably worth it though if you love JRPGs.

Dont know about Devil Survivor, but I've heard great things.

both are ports of older systems but if you insist
SMT is an improved port with a lot of extras
tales of the abyss is a lazy port
but the two of them are good games respectively and both are going to be rare and discontinued years down later
so in my opinion buy both if you can don't skip one over the other .

Tales of the Abyss is my favorite JRPG of all time. I'd say go with it.

I remember playing it back on the PS2... Man. I sunk over 300 hours into that game easily. Not as many as Symphonia, but hey, my PS2 broke while I was going through a 3rd playthrough. =/

I'm actually thinking of picking up Tales of the Abyss today for 3DS. I do also own Devil Survivor Overclocked on the 3DS and it's a really great game. It seems that DSO is a better port than Abyss is so maybe go for that if you can only pick one?

After reading many reviews of both games (3DS, DS and PS2 versions) I've decided to get Overclocked. I'm not really into RPGs but I read some reviews from other people who also are not into RPGs who said Overclocked was a great game and they highly recommend it.

I'm more a fan of Tales of the Abyss, but yeah, the 3DS version is more of a lazy port. But it's still a great game.
