NEW Super Mario Bros. 2

Whats better then one screen? Well two screens of course! Current-gen portables inside: DS, Lite, DSi, DSXL, 3DS...

Creating your own level would be awesome. I always wanted to make an ultimate Mario level that would be as difficult as any level could be.

That would work fine. The only thing is, you would probably have to beat it before you could share it or anything. Otherwise people will be sharing all these dumb impossible levels

I mean when you look back at past Mario games, NES Super Mario Bros. 3 gave you 28 P-Wings for beating the game so that you can keep playing and explore a variety of levels more thoroughly to see what else Nintendo is hiding in said levels.

Super Mario 64 gave you a Yoshi cameo at 100% and he gives you 120 lives to burn as you please, a new triple jump, and some items in some of the levels change (like that Penguin that races you at Cool, Cool Mountain becomes fatter and harder to beat). You can use the 120 lives just to mess around with in the levels and do things you might not have considered in earlier playthroughs.

I'm just hoping there will be more to NSMB2 after the main game and available DLC is finished completely. As J0RdAnN posted, a level editor could help replayability greatly.

@Ngamer01
Actually, your life count would be increased to 99 lives in Super Mario 64 if you talked to Yoshi. It's not possible to have 120 lives in the game. Either way, you're still right that it gave you some neat little rewards for doing everything in the game.

But getting all 120 Stars in Galaxy got you Luigi so you could play slightly differently and then get a new 'level' for 2 more. And Luigi got 10 1Ups all the time from letters.

Galaxy 2 gave you Luigi for beating the game and then 120 stars unlocked MORE stars that were different. Beating levels with Luigi also unlocked those time trial things or whatever they were.

NSMBW gave you stars on your profile and the Special World. 3D Land gave you stars, Luigi, more levels and Statue ability, if I am not mistaken (don't have it yet).

Pretty sure those are all things that add to the game and give replay value.

Nintendo missed the ball with the Red Star confining it to only be used in the Gate Galaxy and on the Comet Observatory. You should have been able to fly in more levels after you 100% the game.

True that there is speed running that you could do, but there is also...
Spoiler:
A Rosalina cameo. That's it, Nintendo? Beat everything including the hardest level in the game and all I get is a Rosalina visit and time trials when I've already replayed every level multiple times to find everything?

MoldyClay wrote:NSMBW gave you stars on your profile and the Special World. 3D Land gave you stars, Luigi, more levels and Statue ability, if I am not mistaken (don't have it yet).

NSMBW also took 360 MB out of 4.7 GB for it's Wii disc. Nintendo could have crammed more into that game rather than just leaving you to only play the same levels with friends long after you finish solo.

SM3DL does give time trials for those that long beat the game, but what? I can't still fly with the Tanooki Suit long after I beat the game 100%?

Basically Nintendo can stand to do more with recent Mario games in terms of after main game content rather than barely fitting a disc/cart and charging 40-50 bucks for it. I do know NSMB2 will get DLC, but there should be more in addition to it especially if you 100% the game (or reach the magic Coin number in-game).

Buying a Level Editor with a million coins would make a good reward to further extend replayability. ;)

Again, more agreeing.

I am not saying the rewards are amazing, but you *do* get stuff for mostly completing it.

But yes. Most of them aren't that great.

I am also easily pleased because I just like playing Luigi, so that's always a solid for me. NSMBW was a let down in terms of completion, moreso than the other games, in my opinion. I ran through, got all the stuff, and it amounted to nothing.

Hope NSMB2 doesn't follow that tradition.

About the 100% rewards, is something very missable in 3D Land

Spoiler:
After finish Special 8-DryBowser, Bowser re-kindap peach and you need to return to play World 8-Bowser2, when you fight Bowser "second-phase", Bowser obtain an upgrade attack, his pink fireballs gets bigger that before

Lately Nintendo takes the 100% rewards in Mario unlock the hardest level iin the game (like in Galaxy 2 and Mario 3D Land)

With all the COIN Theme, maybe the next REWARD will be maybe a Wario as Boss or playable character, a GOLD LEVEL or maybe a Tuxedo Suit Mario :D

No, the hardest level in NSMB2 should be a level where you have to collect 1 million coins in 999 seconds, with you having Gold Fire Flower Mario with Coin Block Head and the entire level being drenched in gold coins and gold enemies.

Just preordered this for 29.99 off newegg (KH:DDD too). Very happy with that price :)

Hope I enjoy it. Doubt I'll be going digital for retail 3DS games, Animal Crossing aside.

Hey, at least current Mario games give you something interesting for beating them. I still remember when Super Mario 64 merely let you get to the castle roof, speak to Yoshi, get 99 lives that vanished when the game was reset and a 'new' triple jump. Or when Super Mario Sunshine gave you a fancy shirt, an ending picture and an icon by your save file.

Still, I have to admit the rewards for actually beating the final levels in recent Mario games haven't been great, and I felt more than a bit jipped that I never got to fight Dry Bowser in an upgraded form of the final boss battle from Super Mario 3D Land.

Will New Super Mario Bros 2 be better? Hopefully, although I hear the only thing you get for a million coins is a gold Mario statue or something equally pointless.

Seems like people like my suggestion on a level editor. Maybe we should write and email to NoA? (or if anyone is good at Japanese a email to NoJ)

Writing a letter would not change anything at this point, and the people who make the games wouldn't see the letter anyways.

You could try a petition. I mean, I've always wanted a level editor, so I'd sign anything that supports the inclusion of one in a Mario game, and I'm sure others would too.

That's a great idea. It probably wouldn't work, but it's worth a shot. Could someone make an online petition and give us a link?

A New Super Mario Bros. 2/U editor could work.

There's editors for NSMB and NSMBW online and they work really well, you could change the backgrounds, tilesets, sprites, themes, a level editor isn't a long shot.

Of course an editor would work well. Look at the style of the game, every foreground is broken up into neat 16 x 16 tiles or easily placed objects and hence the game seems like a really easy one to make an official level editing tool for.

It'd be really cool if you could then share said levels online or something.

I reached out to the 3 biggest fan operations (Rainfall Moonfall and 100,000 for Megaman Legends)asking for help to get things kick started.

I wonder how this will work out...

Nintendo will not make a Mario level editor simply because it would give the game infinite replay value, thus rendering their level designers useless. Also, it would significantly reduce the sales of future 2D Mario games, since players wouldn't need them to play new levels anymore. We all know how greedy Nintendo is. It's no use even trying.

Of course it wouldn't make their level designers useless. There's a reason people pay for professionally made and published video games, and that's that they're often better than fan made ones. If a level editor would make Nintendo obsolete, then by all rights stuff like Lunar Magic should have made it unprofitable to ever make a Mario game again.

Not to mention, a level editor can generally only do what the game engine can do. It can only let the player use things that exist in the game. You probably couldn't add new bosses or music or graphics or enemies or power ups or objects with a standard level editor like the one Nintendo might include in an upcoming New Super Mario Bros game. Things like that are reasons people might buy another Mario game in future. Heck, Nintendo could make a killing with a real level/game editor if done correctly, just release new resources that you buy/get for free when buying future Nintendo games!

Or even ones sold online that can be added to your levels. Who wouldn't want to pay for some power ups from Super Mario Bros 3 or Super Mario World or Super Mario 64 that could be used to improve your level in some way?

So no, a level editor wouldn't make people stop buying new Mario games and Nintendo could theoretically make even more money if they made a really good one which could be improved by bought downloadable content or free stuff included with future Nintendo games.

I liked how in WarioWare DIY had Nintendo people like creators and Alison and Gary from Nintendo Week and others make microgames so IF the level editor happens, they could the Nintendo Network so people could get new levels and maybe send it to NSMBU
