Super Smash Brothers Portable

Whats better then one screen? Well two screens of course! Current-gen portables inside: DS, Lite, DSi, DSXL, 3DS...

if they were to make a smash bros game on ds the controls would probably be clunky, but it possibly could still work.

at the very least, I want to see nintendo at least try one and if it isnt that good then they could stop. then again, when it comes to sequels, nintendo doesnt care about quality (mario party)

the ds is capable of putting a n64 like version of ssb on the ds and i don't see why not and I would love to see stages take advantage of the 2 screens

Smash Bros. 3DS

Postby Animidge » 03 Sep 2010 22:00

Do you guy think Smash Bros. could work on the 3DS? I was thinking about this when I was playing Melee and upon seeing my opponents character fly off the screen and then come back down, hitting the screen in a sort of "breaking the forth wall" fashion.
That would be great to see in 3D. Also Final Smashes would look even better.

If I were to pick any new characters, I'd go with:
-Miis: I know kind of a stupid idea, but who wouldn't want to play as themselves or a celebrity?
-Ganondorf (with sword): Seriously, he needs it.
-Geno: (even though he belongs to Square)
-King K. Rool
-Anthony Higgs: Okay, this one's a joke but still, it would be funny if his taunt was, "Remembuh me?"
-Paper Mario: Not a clone since Paper Mario already has tons of unique moves from the RPG series that he could use in Smash Bros. E.g., Hammer, Airplane mode, Pixls.
-Birdo: Semi-Clone of Yoshi, but with some different moves. E.g., Eggs shoot out of mouth-hole thing.
-Toon Zelda: Semi-clone, but turns into Tetra other than Sheik.
-Master Hand: More powerful, but easier to beat.
-Pokemon Rival: With Mudkip, Typhlosion, and Torterra
-Waluigi: Faster Luigi clone + tennis racket.
-Bowser Jr.
-Krystal
-Mega-Man

So what do you think?

Smash Bros 3DS would be really cool. It would look even better than Melee. But, I don't think Nintendo would go all out for Smash Bros on a hand held. If anything Smash Bros is a console game, just like Pokemon is a hand held game. Sure, they may make Pokemon for a console, just like they may make Smash Bros for a hand held. However, it isn't going to be a bunch of new characters, a bunch of new stages, etc... I think they will leave all the new stuff for the console games.

I don't see why not. The handheld's practically begging for it right about now.

Also, your list of characters.....please.... The less clones, the better in my views. Speaking of which, I'm actually prepping an article about possible Smash Bros characters as I speak. XD

Super Smash Bros 3DS question?

Postby WarioT » 30 May 2012 10:02

First of all Oh yeah Wahahaha!(Wario's voice)

I have the strongest feeling this has already been posted before but I'll continue on

Do you think Smash Bros 3DS will be the same or totally different from the Wii U version besides the HD and the 3D?

Seeing Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart DS their are some differences in them

Probably

I'm hoping that they're different so that we can see stages inspired by handheld games. :)

I agree on the 3d part,i can see this being a cool effect during the gameplay.

However i disagree on your picks.I dont think the roster needs any more clones. If anything they should get rid of them completly.Birdo,Toon Zelda,Pokemon Rival and Waluigi feels like waste of slots. Also they are plenty of Mario characters in my opinion and having even more would be overkill, going for different series that haven`t being represented yet would be a better idea.Krystal is okay through, same for Megaman and Geno i guess.

If I learned something with my little experience with Jump Super Stars and Jump Ultimate Stars, is that a portable Smash Bros. would be a blast.
And I always thought that if they include playable Miis, they would have either a basic Ryu-like moveset (B:Hadouken-like, Up+B: Shoriuken-like, and so on) or use different Nintendo hardware, like the NES Zapper, a Balance Board (for a Surf-like Up+B), a Wii Remore, etc.

Wow! What an idea, if they did this I'd actually be excited about the portable version. Someone needs to inform Sakurai about that on twitter and hopefully he sees it!

There are a lot of great and easy ways the touchscreen and dual screens could work for the game.

What I want is for the 3DS version to have characters exclusive to it that you can unlock on the Wii U version via connecting the two.

However, like Brawl (and Melee) there would be a way to unlock them in the Wii U version, but it would take several hundred or thousand matches to get them. But having both games would unlock them faster. It'd be cool to have handheld-specific characters (as in, people who weren't on console games) and vice versa for Wii U unlocking someone exclusive to consoles on the handheld. Something like that.

Ashley (Trace Memory) for 3DS version. And Kyle Hyde.

MAKE IT HAPPEN NINTENDO. ONE OF THEM.

EDIT: Also, the dude from Pushmo and Dillon should be obvious choices. I can't take Nintendo seriously if the 3DS SSB doesn't have them.

Pushmo is very playable in 2d,so i`m sure Wii U players wouldn`t have a problem to determine when the puzzles get pulled at them.

Regarding Pushmo and Mallo, I thought that Mallo could be an Assit Trophy which either pushes or pulls platforms so they can't be used for some moments, then before Mallo dissapears, returns all the platforms to normal.

I would also like to see some DSiWare characters like Spotto from Spotto!, Looksley from Looksley's Line Up, Dotty from Snapdots, and the Kappa from A Kappa's Trail as Assist Trophies.

And definitively, it needs Nikki in some form and Swapnote as a stage.

Also, LOL, reviving a thread from almost 2 years ago.

I didn't even notice how old this topic was, haha. It was revived in May though (for seemingly no reason; You'd think E3 2011 would've been a good time...) then RE-revived a few days ago.

Nikki/Swapnote should be an assist that replaces Mr. Resetti/Nintendog as the screen covering annoyance.

I support Spotto! and Kappa being somewhere in the game. Holy crap do I want to see Kappa. Love that game.

And that is a good idea for Mallo, but personally, I want him playable.

Yeah, they could easily tilt the camera so you could see it if need be to make it more obvious. Or make it so players can pull the stage out. DOHOHO.

Also, I think a Pushmo stage would be a good "3DS Exclusive, but unlock on Wii U by connecting" thing.

Postby smashbros4svp » 29 Jun 2012 11:57

To be honest,i`m not big on the idea of unlocking stages or characters exclusives between the 2 platforms.

They are people out there who could only afford one version or own ones of the system for the new Smash Bros.It wouldn`t be fair if a random player who owns a Wii U but no 3ds gets in a match and play in the Pushmo stage only to find out that he needs to purchase the 3ds,it`s version, unlock the stage and transfer it to the Wii U.I wouldn`t say it`s as bad as disk-locked content and maybe it wouldn`t be most stages, but it`s still unfair in a way.

Instead,i think the connectivity should be complementairy to the experience like how the multiplayer in Kid Icarus complemented the single player experience. In Kid Icarus, you`d unlock weapons and powers in both modes. What i suggest is that they apply the same concept in term of the connectivity.

My idea is the following;in the 3ds version, they would be a singleplayer mode dedicated to the character that you create.Using your miis or by creating a character from scratch, the singleplayer story mode would take your new character across the Nintendo universe in a variety of levels based on Nintendo games.By completing stages and finding loots in hidden areas, you`d acquire the roster`s special moves and stickers. You could then choose which special moves you want to put on your character.Stickers would be more like the attributes in the weapons of Uprising, they would be based on many characters and objects and locations from the Nintendo universe and would come in different sizes. The most valuable a sticker is,the bigger it would be,and you`d have to fit them in your trophy base like how you`d fit the powers in a box in Kid Icarus Uprising.

In the Wii U game,it would get a deeper multiplayer mode than what`s been offered in the 3ds version. While the 3ds would feature an online multiplayer, the Wii U would feature more modes with more complex options and a tournament mode.In the tournament mode, the winner would acquire stickers or special moves and their value would be based on how far you made it and how many opponents you defeated.

That way,the 3ds version becomes more singleplayer oriented while the Wii U version becomes more multiplayer oriented and you get a connectivity that reward people for playing the respectives modes. The Wii U in it`s single player component would still get the variety of modes that we can expect from a Smash Bros game and the 3ds version still has the multiplayer and social elements to play agaisn`t each others.

I think Sakurai should do such a connectivity so we can enjoy the same greatness no matter what platform we play on while having a connectivity that complement both games.
