Pokemon Black 2 & White 2 (10/7/12)

4th Gen did the same thing to 3rd Gen. In fact, 4th Gen Overused was far more centralized to Sinnoh Pokémon than the current metagame is to 5th Gen (even when you don't count all five Rotom formes). One big difference is that pretty much every "trio" Pokémon from the 5th Gen is in OU (apart from Thundurus in DAS Ubers) while 4th... had one.

I'm looking at the tier list right now, and here's what I see:

3rd gen

-30 OU (Didn't count Dusclops and Magneton)
-46 BL

4th gen

-48 OU
-11 BL

5th gen

-50 OU
-6 BL

3rd gen technically had the greatest amount of usable pokémon, but considering more than half of them were BL, I would argue that 4th gen had the best balance. OU, BL, and even UU creatures are pretty close to each other in terms of possible strategies. Of course, a team of 6 UU won't stand a chance against an all OU set, but many people use the various creatures from lower tiers in order to complement their more powerful pokémon. I once lost a Gyarados and Machamp to Bibarel. In 5th gen, it seems that using UU or even BL in an OU battle is out of the question because the gap between the former two and the latter is huge.

Since there aren't any new Pokemon, I would imagine you would be able to trade Unova's native Pokemon at any time, and being able to trade Pokemon from other regions after getting the national Pokedex just like you can in all the other games.

No, I mean trade. I imagine Black and White 2 will work sort of like how Heartgold/Soulsilver worked with Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. A new set of games that are completely different but are still considered to be in the same generation of Pokemon.

I'm yet to play Black & White, so maybe I'll get both B/W and B2/W2 the same day.
Pokémon's not a prioroty to me for the moment.
So do you think I should play B/W first to understand B2/W2 story? (can't believe I'm asking for something to understand Pokémon's story).

The story between B/W and B2/W2 will probably be the same in differences as the story between R/B and G/S. You will be able to play one without the other and understand it just fine, but there will be a story that will flow from one into another.(i.e. Team Rocket is defeated in R/B and comes back in G/S)

All of them are MUCH better than the originals, IMO. Thundurus is my favorite, and its nice to see Tornadus actually look like a pure-Flying type.

Still don't care for Thundurus' design, Tornadus is...alright I guess, and after getting a clearer look I think Landorus is my favorite of the three now. That cheetah look actually fits him quite well.

Since we are gonna get 3DS apps and functionality around the launch of these games, my only concern is if these games will be in widescreen when played on the 3DS.

I really don't like the black bars when playing DS games on my 3DS.

They all look horrible. Thundurus the least, but horrible nonetheless. I hated the originals, but they grew on me. Their origins and lore helped. Doubt backstories and influences will change my opinion of these monstrosities.

And why exactly must a flying-type absolutely need to resemble something with wings? As far as I'm concerned, birds and bird-like creatures are not the only things in the sky.

If only there were a way to transfer them without trading... it's not fair that we'd need two DS systems! I suppose if I can't find my decrepit DS lite, I could trade them to a friend from Black, and have them trade them back to me on BW2... tedious, though.

Also I have to agree about the Thundurus, Tornadus and Landorus forms... wtf?! Does anyone know if it's only legendaries that will have forms?

- For wifi matches, disconnecting lowers your player rating, other players can see it
- If you turn your DS off while in a wifi match, you won't be able to battle for a short time

And by continuously using repels, does that mean you can use more than 1 at a time? So you don't have to go back in your bag and use another repel?

No, Pokemon B/W 2 is a DS game, not a 3DS. Where as Paper Mario: Sticker Star is a 3DS. They don't have plans to have DS games for download in the e-shop and probably never will.

I figured at the beginning at the game you could choose a difficulty. But what does this feature serve? You're pretty much in post-play stuff now. Unless you can restart and play at a higher diff., but still, who would want to do that?

Yeah, I kind of wish the difficulty settings were available before you started the game, but at least the post game stuff will have them. And it's a step in the right direction, so hopefully the next Pokemon games will offer difficulty settings from the start. But then again, GameFreak has taken out random features for no reason before, like Pokemon following you in post HG/SS games and the Battle Frontier being absent from Diamond/Pearl.

But on a more positive note, people are starting to post the soundtrack up on Youtube, and I'm already falling in love with it. I thought the original Black/White had a pretty good soundtrack, but this one is even better to me. Can't wait for this game to come out in North America.
