I normally don't defend shooters, but the same can be said about all rpgs, fighting games, racing games, etc.

from the way i see it, the difference between shooters is FAR smaller than the difference between rpgs and adventure games

that's a standpoint typically shared by those who either

don't play many shooters, or

limit themselves to the generic shooters out there (which, I will admit, are readily available).

There's plenty of variety in the genre, you just have to sift through the crap to get to the quality.

Sounds familiar to me.

yeah well they didnt exactly make that much of an attempt of changing that many things in twilight princess did they, it was just like ocarina of time with a few changes and lots of improvements whereas this new zelda will be fresh, personally i like twilight princess more than both galaxy 1 and 2

Sorry, but that meme was tired 3 years ago. Saying Twilight Princess is "basically Ocarina with a few changes and lots of improvements", is pretty much describing ANY game in the series, or just about ANY sequel in ANY series, for that matter. It's a generic, blanket statement, and quite honestly, it's not true at all.

Twilight Princess shares many items, weapons, concepts, characters, themes, and gameplay mechanics with Ocarina of Time. So did Wind Waker. So does pretty much EVERY Zelda game. But to actually compare TP to OoT side by side, they are two vastly different games. Two very different stories, and frankly, TP has a LOT more happening in it, a lot DIFFERENT happening in it, than OoT did. And that goes beyond just the Twilight Realm and Wolf transformations. The feel of the game is different (and darker). The land of Hyrule, while sharing a few key areas (Zora's lake, Gordon's mountain, Hyrule Castletown), is WAY different, far more fleshed out than OoT.

Mario Galaxy 2 is far more similar, overall, to Galaxy 1, than TP is to OoT. It literally pretty much is Mario Galaxy 1.5 (not that that's a bad thing, because it's pretty awesome). But Twilight Princess is entirely it's own game, as every Zelda has been. It shares the same kind of look at Ocarina of Time, but that's a good thing. And Zelda Wii is supposed to share an "evolved" form of that same look as well. That doesn't mean Zelda Wii is going to "basically be TP but with some stuff changed and a bunch of things improved". However, considering that OoT IS still the highest rated game ever, how could anyone possibly begrudge the similarities in the first place? If anything, I think Twilight Princess, for it's time, was/is just as deserving of a 10 rating, as OoT was in IT'S time.

At least that's my opinion. It's still the best 3D action game I've ever played (for now).

Uh, pot calls kettle black?

Playing BioShock and playing Half-Life 2 are two different things. Hell, just because games may often share a very similar graphic or art style means nothing. Gears of War is still a very well-balanced game that entails significant effort in doing so.

And your reasoning that the difference between FPS games and RPGs is that FPS games change a lot less from game to game is absurd. You only say that because you don't like shooters.

And speaking of TP, it may be unfair to call it OoT2, but that is what Aonuma described his efforts as - creating a game to show up OoT, by making it bigger and better. TP didn't really accomplish anything really special. None of its items revolutionised the series, nor did any of its concepts like light/dark world. It's been done in Metroid, as well as in two previous Zeldas. Calling Zelda Wii 2 Nintendo's next big game is a far reach, considering that the consensus is basically that the Zelda series is in a rut. We don't even have any idea what this next Zelda is like, and we're already treating it like a Godsend. Stop hyping things up until we know what they are.

I may be in the minority but I could care less about motion controls (on any console) or 3D technology or anything. What I care about--what makes me want to buy a console--is a well-made system. Right now, all 3 consoles have excellent exclusives, though the one I by far love the most is the Wii just because unlike either the 360 or PS3, it doesn't overheat and die friggin' constantly. And this isn't a fanboy statement, I own a PS3 and used to own a 360. That seriously bothers me too much. This many years after release, both those consoles have terrible overheating/complete failure problems, and one of the major reasons I always used to play consoles more than PC is that they wouldn't do that, they wouldn't have stupid issues like that... between not getting to even play for weeks at a time every time it happens and the ridiculous cost of replacing them over and over, I wholeheartedly miss the stability of older consoles.
(And though it's not a current-gen and as such isn't really involved in the topic at hand, I play my PS2 more than my PS3 or sometimes even Wii.)

So yeah, Zelda has my hopes up. More quality games for Wii means more time I can spend playing a console that won't be put in extreme danger of completely dying if you leave it on for 3 hours in a cool room. That's what matters.

No Zelda-game is ever going to shut up any 360 of PS3-fanboy. That's why they are fanboys. ;)

You can't expect a Gears of War or an Uncharted to convince a Nintendo-fanboy either. That's just what fanboys are. Not just fans, but closed-minded gamers who stand by their corporation of choice, no matter what they do or don't.

I'm a pretty big Nintendo-fan, but I don't think Nintendo can do no wrong. It's made it's fair share of mistakes, and it'll undoubtly make some new during the years to come. I also love my PS3, but wouldn't regard Sony as the King of Gameland.

It's a shame lots of gamers miss out on classics on other consoles, merely because it's on another console. I'm not talking about the budget required for owning multiple consoles (a different matter altogether), but the conscious decision to not like company A because they simply aren't company B.

Wow I haven't been in Gonintendo for awhile lol

But yeah sony and microsoft fan boys think the Wii has no games blah blah blah and so on. Bit to be honest I really don't care what they think cause the only thing that matters is that I love it. But I think Mario Galaxy 2 might be the one to finally shut them the hell up lol.

The thing with Zelda is that it's not really up to par with a lot of the games. While unfortunately, Zelda really can't come close to Uncharted 2 in its epic nature, Mario Galaxy proved that there was a way to make a game look amazing on the Wii, and vast as well. I think flight will be incorporated, as it will put it on a more epic scale than "wandering around endless nothing", which was a huge problem with Twilight Princess.

Welcome back, Andy!

Look. I love Zelda games. If it's basically Twilight Princess with Motion+ controls and new dungeons, I'll be happy. I'm not one of those gamers that requires constant innovation to be satisfied. Zelda is such a highly regarded series because the gameplay has been incredible from the start. I don't see why there is such an urge to change it. Yeah, I suppose it can get stale after all of these years... but at least its not the same game coming out yearly like Call of Duty or something along those lines.

I completely trust Nintendo that Zelda Wii will be incredible. Can't wait to see it in a few weeks!

Call of Duty may be released very frequently, but seeing as how it is a multi-player game, it does require that they perfect various mechanics for gameplay to ensure that the multi-player mode has no qualms about it. That Call of Duty is more frequently released than Zelda does not mean that Zelda is not starting to show its age. Zelda allowed players to explore to their hearts' content, and over time it became increasingly linear. The problem with Twilight Princess is that the designers made it seem like it was nonlinear, but just because it was such a huge world didn't change the fact that all this hugeness didn't allow players to go from Point A to Point F to Point C to Point 8 to Point B, it just made it take longer to get from Point A to Point B.
