Wii U - Nintendo's Next Console

Everything about the Wii and its games...

Wouldnt a change in processors kill backwards compatibility for the PS4?

WiiU is reported to be ditching the ram type and provider the wii had, and that alone seems to be puting in doubt how the U will achieve BC

I hope BC is there, and I'm still keeping hope that it up-rezzes the games... even though it probably won't. Nintendo's gotta make that HD collection $$$

yes. they are probably not even going to bother with ps3 bc. unless they have a lot of extra cell cpus laying around they can throw in there for hardware bc.

I could see them doing a preimum sku of the machine, with the hardware in it to do ps1, 2 and 3 BC. I'd buy the shovel out of it.

I just saw the Unreal Engine 4 screens. Yeah, it's not as impressive as I was hoping. It's not quite the leap in quality we saw with the previous Unreal Engines. With the previous incarnations you could see a big leap, but in this case it doesn't really seem like it's that much of a step ahead of UE3. TBH, even Unreal Engine 2, when modified a bit, could put out some pretty good looking games this gen (BioShock 1 and 2 still look great in my opinion, and they run off of an enhanced version of UE2).

So yeah, I believe Wii U could run UE4. The stuff we saw in the tech demo last year, running off of unfinished hardware mind you, looked about on par with what I saw in those UE4 screenshots.

They're apparently doing it for future-proofing methods. But since Sony didn't really care about BC this gen, it's not really their problem in their mind.

The RAM problem for Wii games on Wii U won't be a problem.

you should check out the hi-res screens. graphics at the moment are in a serious state of diminishing returns. the hardware is there, but currently it takes sooooo many man hours of artists and such that you will won't see the best of what something can do because it would take to long to put out.

the UE4 is cool not because it looks leaps and bounds above what is out now (it does look more impressive than anything out now. watch the samartian demo again.) but because of things it will do to ease the jobs of the graphics guys.

here is a good article about it.

and here are the hi-res screen from today.

So there's an insane rumor out there that Retro is working on a Star Fox/Metroid crossover.

Just as a warning, if such a thing exists, I'm banning everyone from GoNintendo forever. Even RawMeatCowboy. Because it is THE WORST idea I have ever heard of. EVER.

So from what I've read it sounds like they're making two separate games from two separate (and aesthetically, very different) franchises and literally gluing them together. Which is the worst possible way to handle a crossover.

I don't believe it for a second.

I sincerely don't believe that Nintendo could be so stupid.

Beyond3d forum poster claimed some time ago the actual game is:

* Not based on Zelda, Metroid, DK, or any other existing franchise from Ninty.
* Visualy intensive
* Aimed at the PS360 core audience (but not necessary a shooter)

How can you ban the site owner? Does that mean you would ban yourself too?

@gtt

I'm not impressed with the Unreal Engine 4 or Epic Games, especially if the engine is just going to be used for Micheal Bay Call of Duty shooters.

List of games that use Unreal Engine
Scroll down to Unreal Engine 3 to see what Nintendo has missed this generation because of not being able to run UE3. You'll see the same kind of list of games for UE4 and if the Wii U can't run it, then it will miss out on all of them.

Holy......

Analogs instead of sliders? And, according to that one guy who posted on the GAF WUST thread, the sticks are clickable. Now, all I need to know how much the system will cost and I'm all set.

2 Controllers might be supported

YES. YEEEES.

Hope they don't cost too much... want to have two controllers when I get a WiiU.

All I'd have to do is press a button to ban every non-admin/mod, then ban those individually. I would naturally be the last mod banned.

And no, this idea sounds terrible.

Crazy rumors, and wild leaks...E3 is fast approaching! :)

I may like the new controller, but...I may have liked the old controller...guess I'll never know, now, lol. It's such a radical design, honestly, the only way I will know for sure is when I hold a test unit. I hope it isn't too funky...my hands aren't huge, but they are larger than normal...maybe that will actually be better for this huge tablet/controller thing-a-ma-jig.

Nintendo knows how to design controllers though, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

The guy's twitter no longer exist D:

Also, the document I posted about 2 controllers is from E3 apparently. If is still valid we'll have to wait.
