I've got it!!! we've all been overlooking it, it is going to be the console experience you take with you, which makes sense with more rumours about it being like a tablet, like the ipad where do you see people whipping them out all the time?

In cafes!!! Starbucks, costas etc etc you take it with you and connect to your home console via via wi-fi to a better online system, for example a nintendo based cloud system!

thats why they were making such a big deal of the internet thing!!!

with that in mind, and all the other rumours flying about and what was 'confirmed' would anyone have objections if the controller were to look like this?

If that was the case, then wouldn't sales of the 3DS take a hit? After all, why buy a handheld if you can can get a home console/handheld combo for around the same price? Nintendo wouldn't want handheld sales to plummet.

what do you mean by that?

I hope they show us the controller tomorrow or at least give us some specs so we can leave E3 for non stop game announcements, kind of like e3 2010, I loved that :D I want to go through that again, but this time, with wii2 games.

nStream: Nintendo's Next Gen Controller Concept

Postby Peachy » 26 Apr 2011 19:05

Here is my latest Nintendo creation called the nStream Controller. It is based on many of the rumors surrounding the successor to the Wii and is formally inspired by the visor of Samus.
Any feedback would be appreciated as I'll continue to develop the design over time.

Nice design, as far as aesthetics go, but I dont see any of the types of project cafe controllers being very comfortable. Instead of a camera I would put in a webcam, just a thought.

Sorry, Im just old and set in my ways...not getting the whole stream thing. I wanna see Nintendos first HD games on my HD tv, not a little screen on a controller.

Thanks Gulshog for your comment!

in regards to your critique: I don't think a controller has to be in the shape of a bubble or some kind of organic form to be considered ergonomically comfortable. I am an iPad user, and the thought of it being uncomfortable whilst holding it has never crossed my mind, same could be said for my 3DS. I think the critical issue to consider is not how it fit's in your hands but how your hands interact with it, for instance: Button placement, natural spacing between components, etc.

What I like about this design is that it visually presents it's self as a mixture of hardcore and casual, looks sharp but never takes it's self too serious in keeping with the fact that this is designed for Nintendo not Apple.

Saw that way back when, it was pretty ridiculous. Would love to see something of that ilk again just to get hyped up for the new console, however much of a radical departure the trailer is. I recall there being one for a PS4 around last year, actually, but that's beside the point.

Cheers Hellfire888!

I would love to work for Nintendo, it has been my dream ever since I was 15 to work for Nintendo as a designer.
I live in New Zealand and three years ago I saved up my money just so I could fly all the way to Japan just to visit the Nintendo Museum in Kyoto. Probably the best thing I ever did because I was inspired and now I study a Bachelor of Product Design with a background in Architecture which I hope along with my passion will get me in the door :)

check out this VIDEO, it's something I came up with for a future console for Nintendo, then called the iQ.

These are a list of features on the iQ taken from the video's info bar:
- The Nintendo iQ is an Interactive Lifestyle System that is connected to the current generation Nintendo Wii gaming console.
- The iQ's purpose is to connect poeple, cultures, lives and environments to one another in a fun and interactive way.
- It's development begun with drawing inspiration from LED billboards that are commonly seen in cities around the globe.
- Electronic billboards have become icons for a futuristic culture where diverse content is delivered to people in an attractive manner.
-The iQ takes the beneficial elements that billboards posses: Informative, helpful, communcative, interesting, artistic, dynamic, bright, fun and lets not forget entertaining! All these elements are then applied to an Interactive Lifestyle System in a home environment.
- These key elements are the focus behind the design of the iQ with a few added features including its main feature - the 8:3 Ratio (320mm x 120mm) OLED multi-touch screen that is used as a secondary screen to the television. An example of the iQ screen being used in a gaming situation: If you are playing a game on your Wii console, to reduce clutter the iQ will automatically remove Heads Up Display (HUD) information from the television screen and place them in the iQ screen. An example in a non-gaming situation: The iQ screen will display horizontal scrolling news and weather information without the television being turned on. Another non-gaming example could be that while a person is watching television they can surf other television channels by watching other channels scroll across the iQ screen in realtime and if a desired show appears the person simply clicks on the scrolling show and the channel on the television will change to display the selection.
-Other built in features the iQ includes are: Infrared Tracking Camera, ambient sensors (light and sound), a more powerful sensor bar, expandable internal memory and new programs and software.

Yeah. Although I turned out to be mostly right. Sam Kennedy put up an editorial about what he knows and what Nintendo is hoping to accomplish with the online system. It's extremely ambitious but even if some of it works, I'll be hooked.

So it's not just me that sees many similarities between my idea and what is rumored... I don't want to say anything because people might think I'm crazy. Did you also see the other videos I made?

I changed the name of the console from the 'iQ' to the 'Nintendo iQo' (pronounced: eye-co) in these videos:
iQo Introduction
iQo Interface

I think this Touch Screen is going to be smaller than we think. I'm guessing 3x2 or something similar in that range. 6' area, not diagonal. A 6' diagonal sounds ridiculous.

I really do not want to use a controller that is mostly taken up by a screen of any sort. I want a big (enough) d-pad, I want room for the sticks, I want big (enough) buttons, etc. I want it to function beyond some touch screen gimmick. That's all I'm gonna say about that.

Think smash bros is going to be at this year's e3? melee and brawl were announced pretty early in their respective consoles life spans, brawl was announced around 2005 and melee 2001 (correct me if I'm wrong).

I've got a feeling that Smash Bros. for Cafe will be announced, but nothing will be shown. Considering Melee and Brawl were two of the biggest games on their respective consoles, Nintendo would be wise to have a Smash game waiting in the pipeline shortly after launch.

When Brawl was announced, wasn't there--besides the teaser trailer--just about no progress started on the game?

HERE is a 45second mock-up video showing how the interface could operate and below are a few images of the interface.

Nintendo has officialy announced a successor to the Wii, said that it would be playable by everyone at E3'11, and that it would launch in 2012, sometime after April in a recent Press Release. I've been calling this for over a year now, way before the whole "Project Cafe" rumors started, though. Also, I don't believe most of the rumors, such as a 6-Inch Touch Screen in the controller, or Nintendo cooperating with Rockstar. Wii Successor Wishlist Time:
-Improved Power: I'm personally fine with Wii graphical capabilities, especially with gorgeous games like Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Conduit 2, but I would still like to see them improved. As for Processing Power, I want it to be more powerful than PS3, but I want them to keep the price tag under $350USD. The reason they need more power is because by the time the Xbox 720(2014-2015*), and PS4(2015-2016*) are released, they will be able to easily overpower Nintendo's console; However, I don't want Nintendo to be quite on the cutting edge of technology, as that would surely result in a price tag of $400+, wichita would alienate the Casual Market they helped create.

-Improved Online: With the Nintendo 3DS, they are definitely going in right direction. First off, Nintendo appears to be eliminating the "Wii Shop," and "DSi Shop," and instead offering a unified Nintendo eShop. For example, let's say the Virtual Console service on the 3DS expands to include home consoles(NES, SNES, N64, etc.), and I want to download Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels for it, I should be able to re-download it onto my Project Cafe without having to repurchase it. Also, Nintendo needs to eliminate Friend Codes in favor of an Account-based System, I mean seriously, who benefits from Friend Codes? Who?

-Improved Built-In Memory: A Hard Drive should be standard in modern Video Game consoles, I mean, they aren't as expensive as they used to be, and Nintendo could offer different models to fit every consumers price range (16gb-120gb sounds reasonable).

-Improved Motion Controls: I love the Wii Remote, and Wii Remote+, but I can't help but grow tired of the "Remote-esque" look of it; I'd like to see it redesigned to look more modern, although I'm not sure how. I've heard some people suggest a second Analog Stick on the Wand, but with the built-in IR Pointer, I don't really see why it's necessary, although if they did do it, I would prefer it to be like the Slide Pad on the Nintendo 3DS, and for them to move the D-Pad below the "+," "-," and Home Buttons. Another thing Nintendo should do is getting rid of the wires between the Wand and Nunchuck; Both should have rechargeable, and come packaged with a Charging Cradle(Ala 3DS) right out of the box. The System should also include a wireless "traditional" controller(Similar to the Classic Controller Pro), but with a built-in Accelerometer, and Gyroscope, and it should have it's own Charging Cradle, too.

Well, that's my thoughts. What do you guys think?

I agree, The abandonment of the friend code system would be a huge step for Nintendo.
This reminds me of a puzzle.

My personal wishlist of what I think it should have hardware-wise

-The rumored R700 or even a r800(or two, xfire woo), something of this level is basically a must.

-an ethernet port, ffs, let me plug in already.

-a few usb 3.0 ports, for expanded storage, keyboard/mouse (support of kb/mouse in a fps would be sweeeet), and for charging the controllers.

-some real on board storage. whether a ssd or regulard hd, it needs to be massive. 128GB if ssd, at least 500GB if regular HD. no more worries about storage.

-standard gcn controller ports, but not memory card, let the OS emulate a gcn memory card, those things are starting to get hard to keep track of. also, wavebird receiver built in.

-blu-ray or comparable disc size for optical media. (hope it uses bluray for movie support)

-gobs of ram. come on nintendo, break open the war chest and go crazy. like, 6GB. 3GB would be a nice minimum. gobs.

-I'm still not sold on the whole giant touchscreen in the middle of the controller. so I hope we get a regular controller. like a classic controller pro but but updated.

Software wishlist

-Real online, accounts with names. friend codes are dumb, admit it already. I want all my vc/wiiware on my new console too.

-VC portability. GBC vc games on my cafe? sure! SNES games on my 3ds, why not?! buy once, play on any device your account logs into.

-Revamped interface, channels can get cluttered, lemme make groups of them! it's my system, let me organize it already.

-DNLA support, I wanna play things from my network on my tv. my ps3 does this now, why shouldn't Cafe?

-This is way out there, but game-dvr support, say you do something cool, you pause the game, goto home screen, and can watch it, cut a clip to put on facebook, or send to your friends, or upload to your club nintendo account to view anytime. This could be really fun. if there is a camera in the controller you could record multiplayer sessions make a cool video of something that happened in game along with your/your friend's reactions.

-the ability to install games to the system, I like discs, but not having to swap discs all the time is just super gravy.

I think I'd be happy if even half this stuff ended up in the final system.
