Usual half assed journalism, they confused cores with threads. Still, 16 [rumor] is very far from WiiU's 6 [rumor].
It would be good for the so-called experience nintendo cares about to go with either more cores or more threads per core for WiiU's CPU.

I really hope this issue is true and that Nintendo gives up on the Wii U name....and ditches the "Wii" name altogether.

Just rename it Nintendo Universe...call the online portion that, the console that...everything. Ditch the Wii moniker as soon as possible. I think most people know the Wii was made by Nintendo...and that the Nintendo brand is more well known...

thing is, practically all gamers either hate the name or merely dislike it. The ones that have no opinion of it are the same people who thought/still think the 3DS is a revision of the DS.

I agree. Maybe not with that name, but a name change would be good for the Wii U. Plus isn't Nintendo trying to re-attract the core audience with this console? I would think that the Wii label would do more harm than good in that sense.

With regards to the casual audience, I think that the name Wii U could just be a repeat of what happened with the 3DS. To this day I'm not sure if my parents know the difference between that and a regular DS. With a different name the casual consumer would still see the console is made by Nintendo, a brand that they liked last generation.

Honestly, I prefer the name Nintendo Revolution for Nintendo's new console. To me, it sounds more futuristic and it sounds like a console meant for the core gamers. You may disagree with me, that's all right since I have the right to say my own opinion like you guys have a right to say your opinions.

I don't really care what they call it. "Wii" is a damned silly name, and "Wii U" certainly sounds even sillier. But at the end of the day, I just want it to not cost me an arm and a leg, and I want it to have good games.

I would love for it to be called the "Nintendo ______" again. But really......it's not as if "Playstation" or "Xbox" sound all that great either.

wii entertainment system would probably be more confusing than Wii U. Wii U sounds like a revision/slight upgrade, wii entertainment system sounds like the wiis full name which most people would think existed 6 years ago

That's what I like too, except I was thinking Ultra N.E.S. (I would be fine with ultimate though.) I actually thought of that before the Nintendo 64 came out and it was still called the Ultra 64, and I have wanted them to call every system that since. Plus they get to keep the U in the name. I have always liked the NES name, and Wii is my least favorite name of any Nintendo system ever. I have gotten used to it but still I would like them to change it. I'm afraid if they keep the Wii name they are just going to keep using it from here on out.

Pretty much. I mean, people lie on the internet all the time, just to mess with people. They don't need a reason, other than the satisfaction they get with jerking people around. But, I think 1 or 2 on NeoGAF are legit...but, not all of them.

The mods verified their connection with the gaming industry. That should be enough. So, until those "named" devs start revealing some actual numbers instead of vague PRs, I'll keep tabs on those few users to see what they have. And if they were wrong then its fine (if the system is better than what they claimed), I'll just ignore their rumors then.

I expect the Wii U to be around 1.5x stronger than the XBOX 360/PlayStation 3 minimum. Why am I assuming this?

Well, I remember there was a rumor that the GPU of the Wii U has specs similar to a GPU in the Radeon HD 5xxx series. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.ph ... count=4396 (Of course, this is just a rumor, but like @ddddd said, the mods in neoGAF are very strict when it comes to how accurate the rumors about the Wii U are.)

And I wouldn't get your hopes up about Nintendo ditching the name, Wii U, or ditching the Wii brand, anytime soon. I think that Nintendo tends to be a bit stubborn when it comes to console names.

You know, I just thought of something. If NSMB came to Wii U with 4-player co-op and screen-switching technology, that could be so much more dickish that straight-up 4-player co-op. Imagine everyone playing on the big-screen and then the person holding the U tablet just switched it to his screen only. SO EVIL!
