Isn't the sky the overworld? In Windwaker the ocean was the overworld, you'd sail from island to island & temple to temple. How is the sky in Skyward Sword functionally any different?

The ocean in WW did seem much more alive though, with fishes etc & dynamic conditions. WW is my favorite overworld of any Zelda game, OOT and TP had large fields etc, but they were mostly empty and boring.

I haven't played much of it, but doesn't Majoras Mask also not have much of an overworld, or a small one? I don't hear complaints about that.

The complaint about the "over world" in Skyward Sword I have is that it made the surface area's very segregated. The three area's should be connected on the surface. There's no natural blending together of different area's, they feel like completely separate locations and not three locations of the same world. I think it felt stupid that to go from Faron to Eldin you had to go back to the clouds and then dive down again.

They're supposed to be separate because
Spoiler:
In Zelda lore, it wasn't until some war that the lands were united.

So in regards to Skyward Sword: It does Zelda right. It does Metroid wrong.

Spoiler:
I think the war when they had to trap Ganon in a Force gem like prison when the Hylian knights where still around. A game depicting it would be nice, same for the flood and Zelda 1.

Spoiler:
There will be no game depicting the flood, given that it only happened because at the time there was no Link to save the land from Ganondorf.

I assume
Spoiler:
by the "lands uniting" Zelda lore refers to the people uniting against a common enemy. Not the physical geographical locations. Does Eldin dig itself up and mozy on down to Faron in a few centuries in Zelda lore?

thats exactly what I wanted, I wanted a mixture of twilight princess/ocarina of times overworld with wind wakers overworld. I really wish they merged the three locations together

That would've made the game more like Brutal Legend, wherein the game changes to an RTS about 40% into the game in order to unite the land against a common enemy.

Anyone else having trouble when flying? My bird always ends up down in the clouds and I struggle gaining height. Am I doing something wrong? It's taken me a good half hour before just to get back to Skyloft because I can't get high enough to reach it. Help?

Don't point the Wii Remote down. In order to gain height, flick the Wii Remote and point it up.

I usually set it on the floor for calibration. It just has to be upside-down on a flat surface. For centering it depends on your playing position.

The only time I have any difficulty with sword swings is in tense situations, which means it's likely my fault. There have only been two times where I needed to re-calibrate so far. I recenter fairly often though, but that's easy to do.

Here are my thoughts about the swimming controls in Skyward Sword inspired by @motherbra1n's thoughts on the swimming controls.

I think that the swimming controls are cumbersome. When I was swimming around Lake Floria, I found myself hitting the walls very often which is frustrating. (Or the reason why I keep hitting the walls often when swimming around Lake Floria is that I suck terribly at Skyward Sword)

But I have to disagree with @motherbra1n's comment about the swimming controls being totally unnecessary. I think that the swimming controls was pretty good, but it needs to be polished more in order to make it fully work.

I got through the second dungeon and I'm in the middle of the third ground area.

I really hope I can find more crafting items. I got shields in serious need of upgrading.

I'm in love with this game. I just can't get over how great the sword combat feels. So much fun! :D

Also, this is speculation so it might also contain a spoiler. Don't read unless you have played most of the game.

Spoiler:
Does anyone else think the ocarina of time was carved from a time shift stone? I found it peculiar that they are both the same color and can manipulate time.

I'm 12 hours in, at Lanaryu (first time there) and while its fun, and pretty inventive with the motion controls, I can't help but feel like I enjoy the atmosphere of OOT 3D more. I don't know why. Maybe coz its fresh in my mind.

I finished the game yesterday and can not stop thinking about the ending!
ONLY CONTINUE IF YOU ARE DONE WITH THE GAME!
Spoiler:
So in the present Demise is destroyed by the Triforce, by dropping the goddess statue on top of him. Then Giraheim grabs Zelda and goes to the past, where Link defeats Demise trapping his essence in the Master Sword and returns to the present. So am I seeing two seperate timelines like in Ocarina? Also does the land names and appearance of the dragons in Twilight Princess make it take place before Ocarina as well? If there are two endings how does Zelda give a bracelet to Impa after Demises death appear in the present time line? Unless Impas 'death' signifies that she was never in that timeline.

You're overthinking it.

Spoiler:
Because the past stayed constant the future was unchanged. No timeline split, no loop. Although for a while I thought that's what they were going to say, the Zelda timeline is one gigantic loop.

Started Hero Mode, and I'm a bit surprised so far. It's engaging and tougher than my first playthrough, but I want to tackle this one at a slower pace. I haven't died yet, either.

@ Carbondog:

Yeah, I think you may be overthinking it too.

Spoiler:
As for Twilight Princess being before OoT, I thought that too at first but I still don't think that is possible. That is because Ganondorf appears in TP with the triforce of power from OoT. Also, the girl in the fishing pond shack has a picture of her ancestor, it's the guy who runs the fishing pond in OoT. Just thinking about the timeline makes me feel dizzy.

I feel like I should respond to my previous posts about the game. As king broly said, I started getting into it at the the third dungeon. I just finished the 4th, which is my favorite thus far. Overall I am happy with the game thus far, having moved past my prior objections. However, Link to the Past remains my favorite of the series, and I prefer Twilight Princess to Skyward Sword. (Midna FTW!)

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Maybee I am over thinking it but...
Spoiler:
But the big thing is there are still at least one game in between Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess where Ganondorf gets the triforce of power while link gets the triforce of courage and Zelda gets the triforce of wisdom. Nintendo has been known to throw random characters with similar names into different times (games). But if Demise is already dead, why is the goddess Island still on the ground when they return to the present? If Demise was trapped in the Master Sword, why would the Triforce send it to the ground? I can see The Minish cap taking place after the past defeat of Demise where no one knows what happened to demise and people are still living in the sky. Another point is the bird with the Triforce above it represents the loftwings. Its everywhere in Skyward Sword as well as Twilight Princess But in very few places in Ocarina and no where after that, at least that I can remember.

But then I might be grasping at strings.
