This is an old article from 2008 but I could not beleive what I read.
As the writer puts it :
"I just started getting used to the fact that every gaming system I played before this my hands were connected on ONE piece of plastic and circuits. Now, I’m having my hands separated and waving around during game play like a 12-year-old kid with hyperactive disorder who just smoked PCP. I don’t want to be jumping rope with the controller, I just want to control the cool shovel that’s on the screen. This thing is a Gamecube slapped with another shovel Powerglove-like gimmick.

Nintendo seems to just be re-releasing crap that didn’t sell in the ’80s. Yet, these casual gamers are buying it for their kids. This system is nothing more than a gimmick for the kiddies. The Wii fit is the new age Power Pad and it’s pathetic that no one can see this tripe that Nintendo is feeding you. The Wii earns its spot for worst console of all time for being nothing more than a joke."

Wii is my favorite home console of all time. So many great games on the system that I don't have enough time to play them all. I just wish we had a F Zero game, a Star Wars Rouge Squadron game, and a good Super Monkey Ball game similar to the first two. Obviously that guy is entitled to his opinions. If he thinks it is the worst console of all time let him. He is missing out on a great device.

I'm going to go ahead and throw my two cents in...The Wii isn't the worst console ever. There is obviously other consoles out there that are just plain horrible (Hellooooo Virtual Boy...)

Having said that, it's not the best console out there in my opinion. And let me just say this, the Wii was like a god when it first came out. Now all of a sudden everyone hates it. Haters gonna' hate.

Wii isn't MY favorite system of all time. But it's a great console, and to say otherwise is miserably stupid.

For all it's "faults" that people like to point out, the reality is, fanboys hate it because it outsold 360 and PS3. It's that simple. Most of those folks haven't even PLAYED any Wii games, except maybe Wii Sports at a store or something. They use that as an example of all Wii games are, ignoring all the GREAT software the system has had.

The Wii has had more games, hands down, that I've actually wanted to not only play, but own, since the SNES. It's the console that got me back into gaming more. I faded out a bit during the GC/PS2 era. I didn't even buy a PS2 until later in it's life, used on the cheap, and I never actually bought a Gamecube. I just picked up a bunch of games I wanted for it when I got my Wii. I had played a lot of games for both consoles when they were coming out, at friend's houses. But I just didn't have the money, and once I did, I still didn't care enough. But games like Twilight Princess (though I prefer the GC version), Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Brawl, Metroid Prime 3, etc., really made me get back into gaming.

The VC and WiiWare services also really helped. I grew up in the 80s, my fav. system was the NES, and I'll always, in my heart, prefer old school side scrolling, or just 2D, sprite based in general, style games. The Wii has had an abundance of those types of games, through download, or many even on disc. And that's where it's at for me.

There are a LOT of craptacular consoles to put on a "Worst Systems" list. Wii is not one of them. For what it did for gaming, the success it had, and the great games it's had, I think it deserves to be in a "Best Systems" list. It's absolutely not THE best. But it belongs up there.

inaccurate statistic to it's actual online connectivity (transactions, online gaming, downloads, communication)

the attach ratio is poor, worst in history.

third party games have been a joke because companies won't invest and take risk and nintendo doesn't have
an open framework to accommodate developers. i'ts both their faults.

nintendo sold 250.00 hardware with expensive peripherals and a poor online interface/dashboard at a big profit margin so you could shake the controller. there were archaic restricting policies that nintendo always seems to cling to.
many of the best games were remakes, ports, GC games and had little added value. lot's of games were lazily kept in 4:3 format and were mistakenly 480i.
the gen had very little in the way of new IP's and innovation software wise. wii sports could have evolved and been so much better.

this upset the core gamers who were giving nintendo one last shot, the guys who traded all their wii stuff into gamestop in 1998.

the value was perceived as poor, while the others systems gave you better power, more and higher rated games, communication, entertainment and online connectivity dollar per dollar at the expense of having analog sticks (which many people like better)

i love my nintendo. i abhor the wii brand. i prefer the nintendo brand.
the wii system was worth the purchase for me for the core games i wanted (zelda, mario, smash, donkey kong) and they would have been exceptional with or without waggle.

face it, we are a large minority. most of the hardcore Nintendo fans from the snes to n64 days are with PS3 or microsoft. they don't even play zelda anymore. they fondly recall OOT but are blinded to the beauty twilight princess is.

i can see why people pick on the wii. it opens itself up to this common criticism.

nintendo made money. that is the redemption here. the wii did nothing special over prior nintendo systems.
lets see if that money truly invests back into the people that supported nintendo from day 1.

Please give evidence for the "poor attach ratio". I can't find anything that agrees with you. The most I can find is it's comparable to PS3.

Interesting that no one actually does any research.
VGChartz shows the Wii to have a higher Tie Rate than the PS3.
While bundling a game with system has made a difference, that has added value to the purchase package.
(I cannot get the numbers right now as I cannot seem to get into the website).

Also, you cannot omit first party titles, which drive Nintendo, from the software sales analysis. Nintendo has 15 or 16 of thtiptop 20 sellers on it's platforms, something unchanged in several generational

Most people can't afford to own two different systems, let alone three. I highly doubt there are THAT many people who own both a PS3 and a 360. The only reason the 360 has an allegedly high "attach rate", is because a majority of people who buy it, buy it for Halo, Gears of War, Call of Duty, etc. The same basic "big name" franchise games, that they love to play on Xbox Live. That may be a generalization, but I think it's a valid one.


And personally, I know many people, myself included, who own Wiis, and still play them regularly.

You know kid....that's funny stuff. Cause I've gotten more replay value out of a lot of Wii games, than any games for any console since pretty much the SNES. And yes, I'm serious.

Games do not need online deathmatch and trophies to make the replay value high. And what does it say about a lot of those HD console games, that if they DIDN'T have those things, the replay value would likely be incredibly lower? How many reviews do these games have where it basically says the single player mode is short and not really worth it, "but the online is great". Sorry, but unless you're out to MAKE A game specifically multiplayer, like Unreal Tournament for example, then that is NOT the way to design a game. Would it be nice if Nintendo's next console had a better online infrastructure, and all that other stuff? Sure. More is usually better in those cases. But really, to act like the Wii sucks because it lacks some of those things, is silly. And me personally, I've had some great online experiences on Wii games.

You make a point I've made before, with a list even, about Wii actually having a lot of good games. But for arguments sake, realize that listing a lot of WiiWare games, which you did, will likely bait certain types around here into saying something along the lines of "it's pretty bad when you have to pad your list with a bunch of downloadable titles".

Lol, well I just took the top 200 on Metacritic and excluded games that I thought were bad and unnecessarily extended the list.

I know you're not making the argument, but If someone wanted to pad out their list they could include Madden, all the Strongbad episodes, and all the Monkey Island chapters... now if I included virtual console games, then I'd be padding out my list.

Also these hypothetical people can't give downloadable titles short-shrift. Many of the best and most interesting games on PS360 are downloadable. I am personally tempted to buy a 360 to play "From Dust".

Any modern system deserves to have downloadable titles listed in it's best titles. They bring the variety missing in the big budget games.

Pac-Man Championship Edition DX, Braid, LIMBO, Super Meat Boy, and Shadow Complex pretty much settle any argument over whether a list is "padded" by having downloadable titles, these games are reasons to own a 360.

Thats probably the most rediculous thing I've ever heard. I'm not even going to waste my time reading it and giving the site a hit. But the Wii is far from being the worst system of all time. I love that it brought back some of my favorite games from long absences like Side scrolling Mario, Punch-Out!!, Donkey Kong Country, non FPS Metroid (I know many people hated it, but I loved it). Both Mario Galaxies will probably go down as 2 of my favorite games of all time.
I'd say the worst system I've ever owned was the Game Gear. But there are many worse systems than that. Such as the CDi, The Odyssey (maybe great for being the first home console, but terrible none the less), Apple Pippin, Atari Jaguar, and Tiger Game.com to name a few.

and even without online, dlc and trophies, the games are deeper and overall better. sales prove it. the industry knows this. everyone knows this.

the best games developers in the world are making games for the HD systems.
nintendo is not the best software developer anymore. steel diver and the same mascot games over and over
have cost nintendo that title years ago.

by metacritic standards, wii software has the lowest average scores by far.
the writing is on the wall, it doesn't take statistics to see that we are in the minority
and gamers gamers are being enjoyed by far many more people on other platforms.

that list of games above contains a plethora of cartoony mediocrity.
kiddy games like mini ninjas, failed selling games and low metacritic score game dominate that list.

i wouldn't post that against the top 100 ps3/360 games. that would be embarrassing.


the 12-40 male demographic is dominated not by wii, an person knows this.
we are in a small minority.

the 50 million soccer moms that bought the wii for wii sports resort are even bored.

also. i frequent many message boards for all systems and industry related topics.

you never ever see ps3/360 forums ever discuss their systems validity, lack of interest, lack of quality, lack of sales or
lack of perceived success.
because it just isn't there.

on nintendo forums, that's all the discussions are. constantly comparing, justifying, regretting, defending
and drinking the nintendo koolaid.

we are in a minority. other than the upcoming cartoon zelda, the wii is dead and is among the
worst systems of all time with regards to abundant, quality software for adult gamers.
you can only use SSBB, SMG, SMG2 and zelda as a defense so many times.
