Deal with it.

I don't mind Dragon Quest X being a MMO. It looks really awesome and I'm looking forward to playing Dragon Quest X!

This is all so sudden! I may just buy the Wii U just for Dragon Quest X and some more Nintendo goodness! :D

I don't know if I'd call it an mmo. I mean, that first M stands for massively. More like a PSOSMOOIYWRPG*

*phantasy star online style multiplayer online, only if you want, role playing game.

There might be a monthly fee associated with the online portion of the game in Japan. Just an FYI.

Just like any other game, MMO's can be good and bad. Just because it is an MMO, doesnt make it a horrible game. They can get boring quickly, but maybe SE will do a good job with the game. I am willing to wait and see, and give them the benefit of the doubt. At least they are trying, which is something they haven't done much of, on the Wii.

But, being SE, I can see the subscription staying even in the US. Capcom was smart, but SE isn't.

Let's hope that Square Enix makes the online play in Dragon Quest X free. But of course, I wouldn't be surprised if Square Enix will pull a f#@$ you and charge subscription fees for the online play in Dragon Quest X in North America and Europe unless Nintendo says that unless the online play in Dragon Quest X is free, we won't localize Dragon Quest X in North America and Europe.

does nintendo really have any say in what titles other publishers can localize or release? and nintendo can dictate what they can charge for their games/services?

a lot of people are quick to hop on the 'must be free or else' bandwagon, but do we really know enough about the service and what it includes? how much it would cost? is it ad-supported?

i think before we know the full value-proposition, it would be premature to pass judgement and declare it a rip-off.

Well the big question here is whether or not Nintendo's going to publish it in the West or not, given the releases of DQ6 and DQ9. If so, who gets the money for online subscription fees if they are applied, the publisher or the developer?

There's also the big question of Friend Codes. Even though we know there won't be any, there is always going to be the perception that 'Nintendo online = shovel Friend Codes' even though they aren't there.

nintendo does have final say on what software can be released on their system. every console manufacturer does.

as far as I know however, they can not dictate pricing.

final say perhaps based on whether they are appropriately licensed and the software works. i don't think nintendo would risk a legal conflict over withholding a game because of subscription fees for a service they both cannot match in functionality and do not have to provide in any way. either way, i don't think nintendo can dictate what games other publishers localize, whether they are released or not.

as for the other points; i still haven't seen any reason consumers should be getting worked up over subcription fees, considering so little information is available about it as a whole. typical gamer premature negativity ejaculations so far as i can tell. whatever dynamics exist between SE and nintendo are irrelevant to consumers. i'm not into rpgs or this game in any way, but it does concern me to see people making more or less uninformed, snap judgements.

wait and see before passing judgement purely on speculation.

I asked my friend who works for a developer here in the states and he said nintendo can deny a game a license for any reason. But they generally don't as long as it passes lot check.

Pretty sure it'll be a monthly fee, but if it's over $10 (a month), then that'll be way to much in my eyes.

Keep in mind regardless of subscription fees there WILL be DLC for the game. It was said at the press conference that the Wii version will require USB memory for that reason - we don't know how much memory though (and that may give us an idea of how much they plan on expanding the game).

Looking at other MMORPGs however, patches happen regularly and with them comes additional content. If you're paying simply to play online its one thing, but the fact that you're getting additional content on a repeated basis should come into play as well.

We don't know the extent that this game is online yet. However, judging from all the footage / screens so far, it -looks- to be a much deeper online experience than say Monster Hunter or Phantasy Star. Being that the game -appears- to feature an online world rather than a lobby area where players meet up and then go to instanced dungeons together (ala PSO or MH), it could actually be a traditional MMORPG in which case a fee would make more sense.

Nope, they were deleted when you forgot to Autosave them. To be honest, you're not living up to your name.
