While, sure, there are games SS should beat out, I don't feel it is goty material. So I will not be voting for it.

What game do you think is goty material then? I'm not saying your opinion is wrong, I'm just curious to what your opinion is.

I can't remember everything that came out this year. Everything from January to now would count, but as I sit here I can't remember what was good from the first half of the year. I haven't played it, but I believe Witcher 2 was 2011, that was a big deal. Civilization V came out this year... More recently, Dark Souls (I haven't beaten it or Zelda, but I'd give Dark Souls the nod so far. 30hrs into Zelda btw)...

Swtor will be out Dec 20 and while I haven't played all of it, from what I can tell playing beta, it will be great. Easily goty material if mmos were ever considered for stuff like that.

Even Pokemon Black I've enjoyed more than SS which I suppose would make it a better goty for me. Mario 3d Land is good...

And I can't comment on Skyrim. I haven't played it or any Elder Scrolls game, but they look fun and immersive.

Even Minecraft technically came out this year.

Oh and I thought Arkham Asylum was great. People say Arkham City is even better, so there's another potential.

Good catch, you got me on Civ V. I remember now, I got it this year because I waited for it to go on sale on Steam.

As far as Arkham City goes, I can't agree or disagree with you since I haven't played it. But you are the first I've heard with that opinion. Granted, someone I spoke with said it was less Metroidy due to the fact that it's now a large, open city... which, in my opinion, would mean not as amazing as the first. But, like I said, I haven't played it.

That's okay though, Civ 5 being DQ'd due to wrong year (oops, ) is no biggie and I wouldn't give goty to Arkham City since I haven't played it. Plenty of games I named that are better than both anyway.

Really? Thats kind of a let down, The fact that the first one was metroidy was one of the reason's it was such a great game in general.

I agree with you on 5th Gen Pokemon, I think it really deserves some kind of award.

The Elder Scroll's games are fun, but are really only worth buying for the computer. They are also really buggy and feel like they weren't fully completed when they were released.

Too bad it doesn't show you who is winning, I guess I'll have to wait til after the show and find out on the internet, because I won't be watching it. I was reading some of the comments on the Skyrim vs. Zelda battle and laughing my ass off though. People are saying they will never watch G4 again because a stupid Wii game beat a HD game. It's no wonder G4 has to talk crap about everything Nintendo, because Sony and Microsoft fans won't watch if they think stupid kiddie SD Nintendo games are actually awesome, or worse yet, better than what they are playing, or get any praise whatsoever. I guess it makes a little more sense now (at least G4 ratings wise) that Skyward Sword wasn't even nominated for Game of the Year, imagine the rage of their viewers if it had won. I guess they realize they have lost all credibility with Nintendo fans, and are desperately trying to cling to what credibility they have left with MS and Sony fans by eliminating even a chance that a Nintendo game could be their game of the year.

LOL!!! did anyone see the announcement of the winner? this is exactly why i really wanted skyward sword to win. They say that it only won because "fans were angry that g4 didn't nominate it themselves (even though skyward sword was beating skyrim before the nominees were even announced) and that anger always wins.

So let's just get this straight.
They put skyward sword up against uncharted 3 before it was even released.
They give skyward sword a piss poor, misleading description with a mediocre 1 minute trailer which basically says "it's a rehash" whilst bigging up every other game it was up against and making all the other games seem so much better with their descriptions and videos.

and they STILL have the nerve to troll the game when it wins? wow...seriously...I knew they would eventually troll the game in one of their crappy podcasts or something like that (because they just can't help themselves), but I expected them to at least summon a shred of dignity and accept that it won and refrain from bashing it within the announcement.

Once again, I expected too much from G4, but my expectations simply can't go any lower.

Even though by the time the nominations came out it had already beaten Skyrim and was in the final round. I know I didn't even expect they would leave it completely off the game of the year nominations, even though I knew they would never let it win. I would expect this sort of explanation from Morgan Webb, but not Sessler. Oh well, I already had no respect for G4, now it's even less than none.

Hmm, tis a shame. I always thought Sessler was the more level-headed one of anyone in G4.
