So, how much are you guys setting aside for the Wii U? For me, I'll be trying to get around $450-$500, for the console (of course) and 2 (maybe 3) games.

I may save up around $400 for the Wii U and 1 (or maybe 2) games.

I am not sure if I will buy the Wii U though.

Do you guys reckon it's true?

I would take this as a grain of salt since we don't know the liability of these sources.

ive got 430 in my wii-u treasure chest i started directly after last years e3. im aiming for 500 but if i hit that.. ill keep going. i will not be caught woefully unready like i was with the wii. nor will i spend $100 dollars over retail value to get onea week after launch, when they have become impossible to find like i did with the wii..

in the immortal words of scar "be prepared".

I'm actually not making a Wii U stash until after we get more info on release dates for games. I'm thinking that I'm going to get 4 games at launch max.

I don't know about a "stash". I'm getting Pikmin for sure, seeing as how I've been waiting for it for years.

Other than that, I don't know enough yet to say. I have been interested in that Aliens game since it was first announced, and was originally conidering getting it for PS3. But if the WiiU version is going to be the best one, and have extra content, then I might as well just get it for that, if I get it at all.

Also...I just really really really hope that Nintendo announces a REAL (and GOOD) Star Fox game. Not some Assault, Adventure or Command type crap, and not that Metroid crossover rumor. No thank you sir. Just good ol "nothing but vehicle based shooting combat on rails levels" for this man, please and thank you.

For $300+, the Wii U better have the best 3rd party support of all three console.

...but it won't.

I'll wait for a price drop, or buy an Xbox 360 or PS3.

I reeeally hope the console is around $299. That would be the perfect price point :)

As far as launch games go, so far the only ones I'm buying are Rayman Legends and (please let there be)Pikmin 3, and most likely AC3. I need more info on all of the other games before I decide on a final purchase. Plus I'll need to buy another controller (hopefully) so that's there too. I hope there's a tentative launch lineup at E3...

Ignoring other factors of the post launch of 3DS

Postby Wonks » 25 May 2012 23:19

I'm being optimistic, but I can see a $269.99 price tag. The 3DS aside, Nintendo's recent consoles have been been priced very fairly ($250 for Wii, $200 for GameCube, if I'm not mistaken). I think Nintendo also has taken into consideration the backlash of the initial price of the 3DS. The absolute last thing they want is for the Wii U to wane in sales and have every fan and perhaps more importantly--investor--wondering if/when Nintendo will lower the price to boost sales.

If people don't show too much excitement at E3, it may keep prices down.
Nintendo is a business, and they'll jack up the price for any reason that tells them that show-goers are extremely interested in the Wii U.

Everybody, please keep a "meh" attitude until its release date and prices are revealed.

How much am I willing to pay for it? No higher than $300 for me. In a perfect world, $250 would be my ideal price point.

I've said this a couple of times already, I have no plans to get it one at launch even if it's in my price range. I'm willing to wait out until Nintendo starts announcing some games that I want to play. The third party stuff is decent but I have a PS3 to cover that for now.

Not saying it'll happen again, but another 3DS situation is always a possibility.

Honestly? $200. I didn’t like that the Wii was at $250. Retailers complained that their profit margin was so thin that they wouldn’t carry it so Nintendo raised the price just for them. This was from a Best Buy employee in a Penny Arcade forums thread.

I won’t be able enjoy the Wii U as much since I only have a Standard Definition TV. Brawl wasn’t optimized for it and neither was Skyward Sword. Most of my 300 hours spent with Brawl was spectating because everything was so zoomed out, I could barely tell what was going on even on a map like Final Destination. Skyward Sword was letterboxed so I had such a difficult time reading the text. The font was too small and keywords were colored on top of that. I ended up skipping 60-80% of Treehouse’s excellent localization.

My TV isn't tiny either. It's a medium sized 1988 Sony Trinitron, 27 inches diagonally. I’m not going to buy another one until this breaks for the sixth time. After that, I’m going with a 42 in. Panasonic so I can notice the difference. It’s also the brand that Nintendo almost always uses. I got my hands on one at my niece’s house and there aren’t a whole lot of menus nested in other menus. Everything is easy to find unlike most electronics nowadays. *Cough* Couldn't even find my Metroid Prime - Data Selection ringtone on my Samsung *Shakes fist* non-smartphone.*/Cough*

My internet connection has been wonky ever since I just got a new router a couple months ago. I would call Verizon to fix it again but I spent so much time researching my problem. It can’t be fixed. The Actiontec GT704WG-B router they gave me has very little memory so when I have my Wii Connect 24 and Cr-48 online at the same time, the connection just drops like a rock. I have been able to stay sane by turning my phone on and then off to reconnect. Correlation doesn’t necessarily equal causation but yeah. My DSL router is pretty much a 56k modem now. You should have seen the first one they sent, it didn’t even have Wi-Fi. Man, Verizon is stingy and I’m not willing to spend another 4 hours arguing on their customer service line that all I simply need is a new router again. I would tell my parents to switch but they’re conservative republicans, extremely stubborn.

That’s why I haven’t been to Club Nintendo all that much. That’s why I didn’t buy Diablo III even though I’ve been itching for a classic action RPG that feels like Conan the Barbarian. Last one I played was Borderlands and before that Legend of Mana. I’m worried I won’t be able to enjoy all the online features of the Wii U or any game that requires a constant internet connection.

I bought the GameCube, Wind Waker, Ocarina of Time and Master Quest bundle when it first came out for $100? $150? The cashier was all like, “Wow, three games in one? This must cost like $250, $300.” *Scans* “You’re lucky.”

I usually break in a handheld with Mario Kart. For the Wii, it was Zelda again. I'll buy a Wii U when Retro Studios' game comes out. Price is a pretty weak reason not to buy something, though.

tl;dr: Read the first paragraph and second to last onward.

This took me 4 or 5 restarts/reconnects just to type this and I can type 40-50 word per minute.

Edit: Oh, and posting from my Wii since I think my Chromebook's network card is about to die from leaving it on 24/7.

Edit 2: As of yesterday My prototype Chromebook is dead. The latest developer's build bricked it. Now all I have that can go online is my Wii, phone, Kindle and DSi. None of 'em work with Club Nintendo. -_-

I'm not willing to pay over $250 for the console. I know it won't release at that, but I'll wait for a price drop.

$250, with a pack-in. Otherwise it's no sale. I won't pay over $300 for PS4 or 720, either. I think it will be a while before either of those consoles come down to that price as well.

I would pay up to $350, but I HIGHLY doubt it would go so high. I would definitely think twice before deciding if I pony up day 1 if that were the price.

I expect and would gladly pay $299, but $250 is in the realm of possibility. Nintendo doesn't want to, but they could take a loss on it for 10-30$, I think. Everyone is (most likely) going to buy Mario anyways, which will help to recoup that loss. It would make me a very happy lad! :)

@King Broly: You will likely be waiting a LOOOONG time for PS4/720 then ;)

yea, I'm not gonna buy my PS4 at launch either, I'll take that 300$ and buy a mid-range GTX700(assuming next year) that smokes the ps4 and keep on PC gaming for my next gen fix. Wait for sony to work out any manufacturing issues and for some good exclusives before I jump on that boat.

but who knows, they might shock me with some amazing launch titles. but I doubt it.

Well, I'd have to build a PC from scratch to be "next-gen compatible" and that will likely run me $1,500-$2,000 which I definitely don't have or will have for a long time.

not at all, you could get by with way less than you think. guessing for 2013... you could probably manage with about 400$-500$ assuming you don't have to buy a monitor.

$400 - $500 is not gonna cut it if you wanna be able to play every game for the next 5 - 6 years with good framerate and at a good resolution.

On topic - not more than £250 - £270 unless it has some amazing perks like a voucher for the e - shop and Nintendo Land bundled with it.

really? I could build a PC for around 500$ *next year* with a gtx660 or maybe a 680, depending. Hell, maybe if we're lucky a 690 will come down in price drastically, that will have you set for the next 5 years easy.

$250-$300 would be my range, I think. I could go as high as $350 if it comes with nice stuff. But I don't think I'll get it right at launch, as I'm not extremely hyped for any of the launch games. I'll probably wait a bit to see if there are problems with the first run or a big failure rate (I doubt it, but who knows). Then I'd get it around December (maybe Christmas).

$300 seems like a reasonable price range imo. I hope its around that because I intend on getting quite a bit of stuff (wii remote plus's, a pro controller, a 32 gig SD card, and about 3 games).
