Rumor: The Grinder moved to Wii U, digital only release?

Postby link29 » 22 Mar 2012 00:28

Just something I saw mentioned here, by someone who said he has a video game insider source, so there may be some truth to it:
http://www.ign.com/boards/threads/activ ... -250682876

Anyway, I hope that it's true I was looking forward to this on Wii, because there aren't that many vampire/horror themed co-op FPS' games these days, and with the Wii U's extra power, improved on-line system and controller, this could be a pretty good game...

Why didn't you send this in as a tip to Gonintendo instead of making this thread?

probably because there is no real news here. it's just someone speculating on a forum.

But @RMC seems to be willing to post this kind of stuff often.

It is the "gritty" (wild west ambient, with vampires and werewolves) FPS game that High Voltage was working on.

That comment in no way implies that the grinder is rumored to be in the works btw...

I was just thinking about this game a while ago.

Pretty sure it's dead. The PS360 version and Wii versions.

And I am almost positive they said it was coming in 2013, so we have a bit before we can start getting all Sadness/Winter/vaporware on it.

I keep in contact with HVS regularly (I'm one of the few that actually reports glitches and such in Conduit 2's online. Yep I the reason you have to wait 2 minutes to download a new patch every time you boot up the game.) Anyway regarding "The Grinder" the game is finished. It just doesn't have a publisher, Sega won't do it because it's in an "Over saturated market" on the PS3/360 and "M" rated games don't sell on Wii. Even though the last time we saw the PS3/360 version (about 2009?) it was a 4 player top down dungeon crawler. Makes me wonder if they just switched it to an FPS on all consoles. It is very possible that it will end up on Wii U as there is a small cult like group that shows interest in the game. Otherwise look forward to them unveiling their new FPS on the 3DS at E3, just remember to grab your ASE.

if it's actually done then digital makes perfect sense. it would cost bascially zero dollars to publish that way. if the work is already done, might as well try and recoup some costs.

That reminds me, someone else mentioned on another forum said that the 3DS Conduit game couldn't find a publisher either [like The Grinder], so I wouldn't be surprised if that is released digitally as well...

The game was supossed to come last year on october. If its finished and it wouldnt need a publisher if it is digital, then why it hasnt been released on PSN or XBL at least?

I mean, if they have a game ready to be sold in digital form then why are they keeping it on a shelf? They could use the profit to fund their other games (animales de la muerte) or even improve the textures or something for the Wii/WiiU version that would remain a fps.

I must be missing something because I dont see what is going on there.

Just when I thought that the development team was picking up steam with Conduit 1 and 2, they then suddenly go quiet.

Well they helped make Star Was Kinect (they did the land speeder and dancing levels) swell as a number of other bad dancing games for Kinect. Sounds like they've been busy with licensed games lately.

I don't know if I should be happy for them to be making money (so we can see their next big project released), if these games are bad. I hope that they build up their image a bit better and show their skills in another quality title in the future.

I checked their site the other day to see if there were any hints as to what they were working on (also to see if they had any copies of Conduit 2 in there store for cheep), and yup, lots of dance and light "casual" games. Can you blame them really, look at Just Dance and Zumba Fitness, if they can strike gold on just one game like that, then they would be set for years of "core" development.
As for the Grinder, I do remember the release date was set in the far future when it was first shown. I think it's safe to say at this point that the Wii version isn't going to see the light of day. The PS360 version might be in redevelopment to make it more Left 4 Deadish (co-op fps), and less Alien Swarmy (top down co-op shooter). If they are doing that, then their love for Nintendo would likely mean a WiiU version is also being made.

Edit: Just rechecked their site,

"The Grinder (unreleased demo)
Platform: Xbox 360, Wii
Publisher: -
Date: -"
It's accompanied by a trailer for the 360 top down game, the original Wii trailer is no where to be found.
Who knows what's happening.

That is interesting that PS3 is no longer listed...
I'll send an email to them tonight and see what is going on with the FPS version of The Grinder. All they've told me is it's finished they're just waiting for a publisher...if it's just at top down game there is no reason it can't be just a Download title. :/

Hi everyone, just read all the comments about HVS waiting for a publisher and I was just wondering ... Is there a way HVS can ask for donations or something like that ?? :?

Anyway, if they could release someking of downloadable demo ... Too bad WiiWare has such limitations ... Maybe a demo for 3DS ??? ...

Who knows ... I'm still looking forward to play this game on my Wii ...

Kickstarter?!

Honestly, it's been so long, I don't even care about this game. So sad, as I enjoyed the hell out of Conduit.

I'm just glad we're going to be getting Conduit 3DS. I've been badgering them with emails for a few months now and was sad to hear the game was put on hold as of early January. Can't wait to see what they've done w/ the hardware and how deep the multiplayer will be this time around. We need more quality games on the system, and Conduit should also nicely fill the noticeable FPS gap in the system's library. I only worry that the game won't sell well. If Call of duty doesn't drop onto 3DS this year I can see the game easily sailing past 300,000 copies in its first few months, but if COD shows up and is actually a valiant effort (as the Wii versions surprisingly were), even I would have to make a tough decision. E3 is going to killer this year.....

Is there actually going to be a 3DS Conduit? I know they did a demo of a stripped down Conduit 2 on 3DS but I haven't seen anything since.

And yes, I bought W@W instead of Conduit when it was delayed, so I agree, the Conduit 3DS games success depends on if COD shows up. Eventually got Conduit & beat it on Severe difficulty, now that's an achievement.
