Monster Hunter Tri... Do you still play it?

Postby Demyx » 15 Jul 2012 20:11

In a few days I'm going to get Monster Hunter Tri. I was wondering is it "too late" to learn how to play this game? I know almost nothing about Monster Hunter so I was wondering if someone could "train me".
Thanks for your time!

Oh I didn't know that Europe and US had different servers in this game.

Nah, I still play it, mind you 60 hours in and I was still stuck trying to beat the Barroth on the three star rank missions, haha.

I want to get more into online now, now that I know I'm going to be getting the good equipment soon, so it's still a whole new game to play through for me.

I got really frustrated with that game a few years ago, I only recently re-discovered it.

Nah, I don't anymore, but that's mostly because I didn't have chance to play for a while and didn't feel like trying to re-learn everything. If 3G ever comes out over here though it'd totally rekindly my interest, and I'd be all over that.

I would. If I still had a Wii. :c
That's a good game to play when you're bored out of your mind.

I don't play it anymore but here's some of what I remember:

An important part of the game is mastering the Free camera system as well as dodging, the top players I've met seemed to have forgone defense for skills and attack bonuses because they've mastered the patterns. I chose to save my money(Hearing and seeing people complain about money led me to this) but my ability to dodge well allowed me to survive while those who badgered me about my armor died.

The free camera system is beneficial as it'll allow people to target troublesome spots (poisonous stingers, Vicious tails,etc...) or make the fight easier by allowing you to trip the monster.

There are weapons the monsters have an element disadvantage too, I've forgotten most of it but R/ludroth, Lagiacrus, Giginox, (Great)Jaggi are weak to the flames. As well as weak spots, the head always hurts, but some enemies tend to have weaker areas.

In Caves, it's smart to have a weapon that'll glow in the dark like the Vulcanis so your team mates have less of an excuse to how you got hit by their swords. On that note, certain weapons have a specific combo pattern that you'll want to avoid that includes launching nearby people in the sky, try not to do that as it's really annoying.

You'll want to have the farm in the village maxed out to constantly be able to make more honey, blue shrooms, godbugs, sleepy fish, Dragon toadstools, etc... . You'll have to devote some time to gathering a lot of raw meat which you'll cook then gather more raw meat because you have no more, as well as gathering blue kelbi (those deers, knock them unconscious then "loot" them) horns for a potent formula. You'll meet the trade lady(online) that'll trade for some things like Honey and other essentials but you'll first need to have the for mentioned things in order.

Get a Great Jaggi's mask as soon as possible from the events quest online as it'll help increase your chances to get better materials at the end. This'll help getting materials for forging your desired armors. Don't forget to upgrade useful armor with armor spheres.

I'd love to start playing in it again, but usually I'm busy trying to make myself draw, or playing a quick couple games here and there. I love MH3, but the grinding-for-items thing sometimes makes it feel like a chore, so I keep putting it off.

I think it's a GREAT quote-unquote 'hardcore' game where you could get a lot of play time going for items and gear yourself up for an epic battle that actually relies on skill rather than purely on equipment/levels/lock-on/auto-battle etc. It doesn't hold your hand too much, and it more or less FORCES you to figure things out for yourself rather than just simply say 'I looked up how to do it online and now I'm going to do it', you usually still have to develop a skill for doing it and watch the monster carefully and make sure you don't screw up at the end after all of that. So it's really good, no idea how many are still playing it online because I've never had a group to play with, but I hear it's good either way. Just haven't done it myself much, except for playing by myself once or twice.

I still play it. HR 111 atm, a little over 210+ hours. I generally use the Great Sword, and do pretty well with it. Add me, and I'll surely help you out name:RagSM

If my Wii wasn't broken for 2 years I would've still kept playing it to this very day. I miss playing it. :( Got about 500 hours into the game since launch.

I actually just popped it in yesterday just for fun, and I still enjoyed it. It feels good to help someone else get something they need :) (hours logged: 463)

Every once and a while I'll pop it in and go mine the high level volcano for Timeworn Charms. Haven't lately though because all my entertainment hours have been playing through Xenoblade, CoD MW2 multi, DCU on my PS3, and Stargate marathon on Netflix. I'll play with you, don't know about training, though. Hard to have deep convo through the chat system, but I could try to answer any questions. If you are interested, send me a PM with more details like your Name, what times you will usually be on, etc.

It's fun, but you will run into elitist douche bags online, so be careful.

I actually thought that Monster Hunters' online players were pretty nice. There were people that told me they didn't want to play with me because my level was too low but they are usually nice about it. There are alot of times when a high HR player will just let the lower HR players choose quests and kill the monsters for them. I have only played for about 80 hours though and I'm in America if that makes any difference. It's no where near as bad as playing CoD on PS3 :p

I played a lot when it first came out and logged 300-400+ hours since then. It was probably a lot worse during it's peak. That's cool if it's calmed down since then. I was always annoyed because I knew that crap had to turn some people off from playing the game.
