A sequel means a game that continues where the other one left off. I you've played Pokémon Black or White (which I doubt) you'd know that the events at the end leave place for a sequel.

And the reason why this is exciting is because Game Freak usually only releases a third version that is the exact same thing as the first two but with minor additions, if this is a sequel (which it will be, otherwise there would be no points in putting a "2" in the title) then it will make those games much closer to new games rather than a remake.

So then story? because this game will be largely the same. There's no way they're gonna introduce any new game mechanics until the 3DS iteration. If that's the case then I don't understand the excitement.

It bears the Black and White namesakes... It comes out just over 1.5 years after it's JPN release... What do you think?

Honestly. The only 'new' Pokemon will be the Kyurem formes.

If that's the case then considering the whole point of Pokemon is the catch 'em all and the whole pull of new Pokemon games is to catch another 100+ new Pokemon, then these games will be pointless. I've never considered Pokemon to be that story intensive. I've played every generation and would not consider any of the games stories that compelling, or interesting.

1.5 Years isn't that short a time frame to come up with some new Pokemon, and as these games are on the DS, they'll be re-using a vast majority of the previous games assets and game engine hence the quick turn-around.

These games are just the 'third and best version of the gen' - the fan dubbed 'Gray' version - just done a different way [with sequels - which by their very definition are suppose to better their predecessors].

And your last point is also exactly why they won't be introducing any new pokemon either.

North American Pokemon website updated for Black and White 2

@SlimeBeherit
Yeah... I did expect it to be a third version split up in two, but I still think it's cool.

North American Pokemon website updated for Black and White 2

Postby WarioSuperstar » 26 Feb 2012 17:12

For some kind of reason I had a feeling Nintendo would not make a grey version. Because Black and White released at the end of the DS's lifespan. But I never expected a Black 2 and a White 2. And I also didn't expect it would be for the normal DS.

I really wanted Pokemon on the 3DS, mainly because of the graphics. In Pokemon Black and White, the Pokemon battles are better animated, but the sprites are still made of dots, especially when you zoom in on a Pokemon, they look very blocky. This was mainly because of the DS's low graphical abilities. Pokemon games always had and should use sprites. I am perfectly fine with that, but for the next Pokemon games, I want all the Pokemon sprites to be hand-drawn and/or have nice smooth, but crisp lines. It makes battles look so much prettier. And with the 3DS's stereoscopic 3D, Pokemon battles will look even better.

I understand if you're looking forward to this pokemon grey. I was just shocked that so many people were blown away by the clever marketing. "a sequel?! ground breaking!!!"

North American Pokemon website updated for Black and White 2

Postby WarioSuperstar » 26 Feb 2012 21:31

@SlimeBeherit
The Pokemon series became very predictable. First two paired games are released and a third version comes later. But this is different. People liked it because the series finally mixes things up.

I am really satisfied Nintendo and the Pokemon Company did it differently this time around. Let's hope Black and White 2 will be a success.

much remains to be seen, for the moment it doesn't mix up the series in significant way
