I wouldn't normally put too much into this, but Walmart actually had listings for the Wii at $250 before we knew the final price of that. Like Pachter said, if the system is even a penny over $250, they're screwed!

Google runs Walmart ads for Wii U at $350

Postby Roth » 30 Apr 2012 22:36

hmm, seems about right considering the Wii U hardware specs. I feel like they're going the same way they did with 3DS. People expected 3DS launch price to be 200$, but Nintendo added +50 to that. People expect Wii U to be 300$, so now it looks like they're adding +50 to that too. They definitely don't want to sell a console at a loss so we'll just consider this for the time being.

Wait, you agree with Patcher now RMC?

Nah, I'm just joshing. Seriously though, I think 300 USD should be the expected maximum.

I'm guessing it won't be sold out like the Wii was. That's cool, because I don't have my connections like I did back in early 2007.

$349 isn't a bad price for a next gen system.

Expect most of the next generation consoles to be over $250. This hardware isn't cheap, folks.

I'd bet 300 bucks myself, but heh. Nintendo KNOWS that a hefty price tag CAN, in fact, doom a system. 3DS price cut, anyone? Hmm?

A wee bit rich.
It's pretty swell to live in a world where I play all the videogames without finding some reason to yell about it. Shame many don't visit that world.

350 seems a good price imo but the problem is that kind of price would turn of casual buyers.

Just like with the Wii Nintendo will judge post e3 reactions to come up with a final price. Anything right now is just a guess.

That seems about right. I have no problem dropping 350 + for a Wii u and a game on day one.

Now has it been confirmed that Wii u games will be 60 bucks? Or will they remain 50?

Ouch. That's a bit steep for a console that for all we know might not be much more powerful than the PS3 (if even that).

It's always because of Nintendo and their stupid gimmicks.

if this price is true, I'm gonna have to reconsider my day one purchase. and if it's simply on par with the 360/ps3 lots of non-nintendo fans are gonna ask themselves why they would pay 100$ more for a console that can't provide anything above and beyond what 6 year old hardware can do. and I don't think a tablet controller will be a selling point to that crowd.

I don't understand the complaints about console costs. I'm more concerned about game costs going up than anything else.

"Like Pachter said, if the system is even a penny over $250, they're screwed!"

I think Pachter is a little bit screwed up in the head if he thinks any of the next gen consoles will end up as cheap as $250.

I'm perfectly fine with $300, that would be the ideal price for me. But if they want $350 there will need to be a pack-in game or something.
