GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - How do you prepare for E3?

Postby Hyawatta » 02 May 2012 10:20

I have been staying late to build hours to take off for E3.

I tried watching it at work once; not going to do that again. I take the day off, and set up a live broadcast from one site on the desktop and one from a different site on the laptop. After I watch it live, I play it back on the TV's DVR and listen to what the commentators have to say about it. Then I check the live blogs and Internet info for anything that I may have missed. It’s always interesting to get a since of how the online community feels about the conference vs. how the TV commenters feel about it.

I like to be immersed in the conference with no distractions from tweets or blogs until after the show. I'm debating on whether I should just watch it live on the TV instead of from the streams this time. I’ll probably have all three on and just watch whichever one comes in looking at the highest quality. Last year, I was going to watch it on TV, but G4 doesn’t come in HD, so I watched the streams instead. This year, Spike TV does come in HD, so I may watch it this time, but I’ll still have the streams running, just in case. I don’t want to miss anything.

I really like the idea of having friends over, but I’m so interested in the actual info that it would probably be too distracting for me. I’d have them come over for my second or third time watching it.

GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - How do you prepare for E3?

Postby someone17 » 02 May 2012 11:04

like I said in one of the previous stories, I plan far in advanced to make sure I have this day off. If I had classes I made sure none of them would be early in the day (east coast time), if i had work I requested the day off early. as for the press conference I use nintendo's because they've been adding more to their stream lately. I usually watch it alone because I want to focus only on the show and not have any distractions other than eating lol

I completely forgot what I do every year cause last year was such a disappointment. all it was was "SYMPHONY!!!! ooo look at these 4 3DS games u already knew about o: WHATS THAT?! LUIGIS MANSION 2!!!!!....CONTROLLER...and SSB4 o:" seriously Nintendo. only 2 1st party games announced last year. it was a huge disappointment.

GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - How do you prepare for E3?

Postby Ezekiel Rage » 02 May 2012 11:50

Where I live, the Livestream will be shown at 6PM, so Me and a bunch of my friends will be sitting in front of my 42" HDTV and watch the stream there while enjoying mario kart 7, smash bros brawl and a good old fashioned blowout of goldeneye 64^^

GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - How do you prepare for E3?

Postby Hawk » 02 May 2012 12:19

For my first time, I'm actually going. So this time I'm preparing for a long drive to California instead of just waking up and finding a live feed that isn't too slow.

Unfortunately, Nintendo's event is press only, so I won't be able to see it live. I'm bringing along a laptop to watch it at the hotel later. Also, I'm bringing a camera to snap some pictures, and a 3DS to play while waiting in line (and get my street passes!)

The week before Nintendo's E3 press conference I always watch all of their other E3 press conferences from the previous years.

dual monitor setup:

first i wake up like at eight make a good b-fast by the time it's like 8:30 i have my food ready. then i look around for the best stream on one monitor
then the other is usually open for various chat rooms to discuss the even live w/ other folk.

simple yet fun.

GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - How do you prepare for E3?

Postby Ry » 02 May 2012 12:51

I'm on the west coast so all I have to do is wake up early like around 6 or 7. I go on my laptop and watch the live stream either on IGN or Gamespot depending on the lag. Last year, I watched Nintendo's conference on their site. I also tune in to live blogs of multiple sites including GoNintendo to read reactions. Joystiq typically have a bingo game so I like to play along even if a lot of their predictions are way off. That's pretty much how it goes for me.

Leon's Guide to a fun E3:

-Make sure you are free at least a month in advance for whichever day's presentation you will be watching.
-Grab an ice cold drink of choice (Apple Schnapps for myself)
-(optional) A snack perhaps?
-Find a working stream at least 30 mins before it starts.
-READ. ALL. TRIVIA. QUESTIONS.
-Enjoy
Considering I've been playing Video Games since I was 3 years old, I'm still pretty terrible at them

GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - How do you prepare for E3?

Postby bonesawisready » 02 May 2012 12:53

I'm going to wake up early and watch Nintendo's and probably flock to message boards after that and ignore Sony's since there isn't much I'll get out of it

I watched it last year with my GF and maybe again this year but I'd love to get a party going

last year i had it all figured out , i was just going to watch the nintendo stream directly , but it backfired, i could not see it live so i thought the repeat would be ok , but unfortunately nintendo changed their website showing the wii u controller in full.
Now this year i should be able to see it live , so it's the nintendo stream , no forums, chat, twitter . After that the video , and then it's already over

Bowl of popcorn, ginger ale, half the screen live-feed, half the screen forum. Then because of low internet connection, load and rewatch entire thing without interruptions. Then I usually watch the Microsoft and Sony conferences since I hate it when Xbox and PlayStation fans are ignorant of Nintendo games and I don't want to be a hypocrite.

I take time off of work, of course. My guess was that Nintendo would be taking their usual Tuesday spot, so I took Tuesday and Wednesday off months ago (and work knows I might be skipping-out on Friday as well). Work just thinks I'll be out of town, so they won't be tempted to call me asking for help. If anyone at work does know, it's because they do the same, and we speak in code about our "vacation in Hyrule."

I'll be having my favorite junk foods shipped to me in bulk for that week. Whatever I don't consume over E3 will be used during a good gaming marathon or two. I have a case of Bawls delivered, a case of Lotte Milkis delivered, etc. I also go out and buy an entire tiramisu cake for dessert, along with lots of easy-to-prepare junk foods. And though I don't indulge very often at all, I also grab some, uhh.., "party favors" in the form of alcohol, etc for the week.

My family and workplace know I'll be unavailable that week. All business (bills, errands around town, etc) is taken care of before the week begins so that nothing is there bothering me in the back of my mind. Finally, I clean house from top to bottom. Laundry done, dishes put away, floors swept/mopped/shampooed, dusting of furniture, bathrooms cleaned, TV and computers Windexed, etc.

It's the same protocol I follow as when a Zelda game is released, or when Launch Week comes: all is right in the world, and I can relax and pay 110% attention to my Nintendo stuff without feeling guilty or bothered. It's a week of Nintendo fun, easy living, and good food.

Oh.. and I spend the whole week in my very comfy Triforce/Hylian Shield pajamas. Almost forgot that part. :D

GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - How do you prepare for E3?

Postby Irritating Stick » 02 May 2012 13:18

My job is working 3PM to midnight, so my biggest worry is sleeping through it! I'll probably hook my laptop to my TV and watch it on that.

EDIT:

Oh yeah, and I'm setting a bunch of alarms before the conference starts
I FEEL ASLEEP!!

To start with, I've just asked for the 5th off, I have an E3 party planned, and I've claimed the seat at just the right angle to the tv for optimal viewing.

I take a half day at work to be sure I'm here and ready by 12:00pm here in the east. I think this will be about the 5th year in a row I've done this. I don't do much else, just watch it on TV and then get online to see the reactions. Then I'll dive into some games to satisfy my game craving.

Thinking of taking the day off work this year so I can sit back and enjoy the ride, haha. Not that it matters since I work evenings, but eh...this year's E3 is shaping up to be pretty interesting for Nintendo and I wanna enjoy every minute of it!

As for watching the show, I usually have a couple feeds ready to go, as well as G4 on the TV so I can be sure not to miss anything. Fun times, indeed!
