The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - $20 at Kmart from May 6

Funny how the people who've expressed some dislike for the game have do so on a level-headed manner, and the ones defending it are the ones throwing insults around.

Funny how a blog post about a game sale turns into a hot headed discussion about the faults of the game.

(even though we have a Zelda thread for that)

I'm about 12 hours into SS currently, and while the presentation is quite impressive and the dungeons proper have been pretty well-designed, I am disappointed in the extremely slow pace of progression, the large amounts of padding with stuff like fetch quests, the barren-ness of the sky and new pseudo-dungeon nature of the "overworld", and the fact that combat has almost been made into a series of puzzles. I wanted a game that put Motion Plus to good use and eliminated waggle, but I find myself just flailing with the controller most of the time to get the fights over with.

If you're flailing around with the controller, you're doing it wrong.

Well, since the alternative with many enemies is slow trial and error, with them constantly blocking your blows by instantaneously moving their weapons after you've initiated your attack, I prefer spamming attacks to kill them off in a few seconds. Except for the first boss battle, this strategy has worked much more efficiently for me.

I'm so glad to find that there are many that agree with me. Initially, after reading all the "this is better than OOT" reviews I thought there must have been something wrong with me, like maybe I'd grown out of zelda, or gaming in general. Yet it is more likely that nintendo has grown out of nintendo. I'd like them to lay the series to rest for a while and when they have another attempt, let someone else make it. Remember the Capcom Zelda games? They were absolutely awesome, and provided a real sense of freshness.

If nintendo are to make another Zelda game, I'd like them to keep the age of their target audience in mind (20 plus, not 10) and I'd like an extremely hard zelda game, something that brings the fun back into an awesome series.

They could make a start by leaving Hyrule and the triforce behind. Majora's mask has possibly the best game story to date.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - $20 at Kmart from May 6

@Autosaver
Happens any time you mention the game (its like how you can't say anything Metroid related without someone reminding everyone Other M exists). Plus its rather easy to go from "its $20 because nobody wants it" to "nobody wants it because its rubbish"

Skyward Sword was clearly a case of retailers underestimating quite how badly the Wii market has dried up (thanks in no part to NOAs "if we release nothing then nothing can sell badly") or the audience for Zelda has moved on (or was distracted by Skyrim, Dark Souls etc). But thats part of retail. Kmart will be taking the loss on this one; not Nintendo.

@ridleysaria
Imagining Fi in that voice will make things more enjoyable for sure.

There is a price drop, but it's $40 instead of $20
