Monster Hunter 3G not likely for localization due to lack of support for Monster Hunter Tri

The following comment comes from David Gibson, Head of Software & Services for Macquarie Capital Securities Japan. He made the statement via Twitter when asked about the possibility of Monster Hunter 3G getting localized.

Capcom keep saying its unlikely as audience not there based on the wii game

I know Monster Hunter Tri didn't blow the market away, but I thought it sold pretty decently. Have any of the Monster Hunter games released stateside really brought in big sales?

While depressing, it does make me look forward to them putting more effort into Monster Hunter 4 on 3DS.

Monster Hunter has always been a niche series in the US, It's a hard game to get into, but if you are able to you'll pour hours into each game. I think I can live with Tri G not hitting the US the lack of online is disappointing. But I'm sure MH 4 will get localized.

Nintendo should honestly step in. While it may not sell like hotcakes, it will atleast beef up the quality of the 3ds game library.

Perhaps that's due to the fact that the game received zero advertising? Typically the public has to know whether or not a game actually exists before they buy it.

Monster Hunter 3G not likely for localization due to lack of

Postby led-naruto » 26 May 2012 11:39

That's really pushing it. I know Capcom doesn't want to lose income but how can they tell if the game won't sell well here with just a deduction from the past title, which was released on a console framed as "not-for-hardcores"?

"Oh this game didn't give us too much profit so we won't work on a system that is already selling good enough!"

And I'm not positive about Capcom at all, after all they have been saying, Inafune's rants, ML3 cancelation and making profit out of just t-shirts. I wish people would learn about this.

I thought it had lots of advertising, the most for a third party to boot.

Wasn't Tri supposed to have been the highest selling MH that's been released in the West?

If this is the case, then I have to make this announcement:

"XCWarrior cannot buy anymore Capcom games due to the drop in quality and support of their company."

Likely no change from this after E3.

This isn't even close to the truth.

Nintendo handled the advertising and they did a fantastic job with it. It had one of the most expensive ad campaigns even seen in video game history. Demos were handed out, huge focus on Nintendo emails/newsletters/apps, and funny/memorable commercials. I saw a huge amount of commercials back when it came out.

That's what I remember. A quick scan of VGChartz agrees with that idea. I think the game sold like dynamite considering it was on a system that was not known for its hardcore third party games, during a year where the 3rd party support for the system was at its best and there was a lot of competition.

This is why Capcom today is completely full of BS in just about everything they say and do.

Not only did Monster Hunter 3 sell almost 3 million copies, but Capcom has STATED in the past just how happy they were with it's sales. So the short version is, they are just completely full of s*** and don't want to give a legit reason why they do anything, including cancelling Legends 3.

@led-naruto

Same way Nintendo of America won't touch the Mother series here anymore.

BA-DUM-CHH~

Also, other than RE6, which I have to get new because I am a huge fan/bought RE4 and RE5 at launch, I refuse to buy anything *new* from Capcom until they start changing their ways.

Likewise, any DLC I want (probably just RE-related), I will only get when on sale. And probably using points I got through Xbox Live Rewards or Bing, that way I am not giving them any of my actual money, even though it counts as a sale for them (but at least a discounted sale).

@void3953

Pretty sure "This".

Postby Poopaloop » 26 May 2012 12:11

Capcom, you're an embarassment. I really can't take much more of their blaming fans/would-be-purchasers on their crappy decisions.

It didn't sell as well as you wanted, on that system that didn't have many hardcore fans (due in no small part to your crappy support beforehand?) So learn from it. Launch again on the 3DS. ADVERTISE.

It's your job as a publisher and developer to MAKE customers want your product. It is NOT the job of customers to goad you in to making products. Their victim attitude is really starting to bug me.

My thoughts exactly. Unless they're just saying that to make fans stop flooding their capcom-unity boards with localization requests. Lol.

Svenson recently said that we can look forward to more Monster Hunter in the US and that we should look at the fact that they are still spending money and supporting the Tri servers to show they do still care about it over here, and that's apparently for a game this guy is saying didn't do good enough.

We will likely get the next main entry over here for Wii-U, if not all main consoles, so I'll be fine without 3G.

As for Tri not doing good enough in the US, it's the best selling Monster Hunter game released here, so I think that should say something. Don't be dumb and not follow through and build on the audience you have already built up is all I can say.

Monster Hunter Tri is the most successful Monster Hunter game in the west. So unless they were thinking that the series was big before than. They most of been smoking something. It seems to me that think we want Dragon Dogma!
