Nintendo denies Nikkei reports, no 3DS redesign

Isn't this what always happens? Once again we've seen Nikkei leak Nintendo info. Once again...Nintendo denies it. The Big N says that Nikkei's info on a 3DS redesign and Wii U apps is full of mistakes, based off conjecture and not things Nintendo has said. Take that as you will.

Thank you Nintendo. Hopefully this will hurt Nikkei's credibility. Yes, a redesign is happening, but announcing it at e3 seems kind of stupid. The 3DS is just taking off, release a redesign when sales start to take a dive.

I think this pretty much confirms the redesign is coming. Otherwise, they wouldn't have even bothered to deny it.

Glad we got confirmation. The 3DS Doesn't need a redesign right now. It's too early. I fully expect one next year at E3 however but I will hopefully have more money by then!

I wouldn't exactly take Nintendo's word on it until later this week.

You know, I'm not sure how they leaked their information, but it's kind of disrespectful towards another company to do so.

I remember nintendo denied the ds lite and then the next day the ds lite was announced. yea...can't trust nintendo either. also didn't nikkei report the dsi before it was announced? Not saying that Nikkei is 100 reliable but they've been spot on many times.

They are probably and quite cleverly using the price point mention to deny and claim inaccuracies etc.

They denied during the DS era too right upto the day before of a revision reveal saying no way

I really hope that Nikkei isn't right. Though a 3DSXL would be welcomed. it would be a HUGE SLAP IN THE FACE to us early adopters...a second time. We havent even gotten White or Cobalt Blue 3DS's here in the states. Meanwhile not even a year later, BAM! Super sized? I'd be pissed off.

Amazing! Not ONE comment on the supposed price point of the Wii U. I would have thought someone would be as livid as I am if this turns out to be true. IF they adhere to this, there won't be many purchases come launch time, IMO. 3DS launch, anyone?

If they just wanted to cover it up they would say "Nintendo doesn't comment on rumours and speculation." They went out of their way to say it isn't happening. Probably means it's not happening.

I don't see how it's a slap in the face, don't get me wrong but it's not like the hardware inside of the 3DS will be changed leaving the older type 3DS obsolete with games and such, take Apple for example. Some people might just prefer a bigger sized 3DS and will no doubt be willing to pay the extra price as a revision with a bigger screen and what-not will not be cheaper, I don't see how it's a slap in the face, nobody will be forcing you to purchase it if it comes about and you can carry on playing all those fantastic games still on the 3DS you already have. Revisions are good especially for people with bad eye sight who find the screens too small.

Based on what? Not on the history of Nintendo's first DS handheld revision. I wrote about this a week ago, before any "analyst" report and any of this was even being mentioned. In my post I said on one point, "The original Nintendo DS had been released for 1 year, 2 months, 5 days before Nintendo announced they would be releasing the Nintendo DS Lite model. The Nintendo 3DS released in North America last March, and from its release date to Nintendo's E3 press conference next week, it will be 1 year, 2 months, 9 days."

So, it's not too early, at least not based on the DS' history.
