FIFA 13 - Wii U differences interview

Postby Delta46 » 06 Aug 2012 23:00

As soon as he said it was being optimized for casual gameplay because that is the Wii U userbase, I braced myself for the rest of the video
I love FIFA, but I'm not sure which version I'll get.
PS3 - a little earlier, can play online with my friends
Wii U- a little later, most of my friends won't get a Wii U this soon, but Wii U graphics
I'm leaning toward the PS3....
"Many have said them to you thus far, but now i wish to say them for myself… Thank you, Master Link. May we meet again in another life…"

FIFA 13 - Wii U differences interview

"Wii U has a much more casual audience"

I heard this when I watched it live but are they serious?, the Wii U has no audience since it's not out yet so how can it have a causal audience?, EA being EA like usual.

So they are optimizing a game mostly played by casual players for casuals, interesting.

When did sports games, especially EA sports become "casual"?

Seriously if Wii and DS userbases are "casual", then who owned PS2s and PS1s.

Well I know lots of people that own a console just for fifa and COD, I consider those people casual players.
They are the same people that used to own a ps2 only to play PES.

@ddddd

No, a lot of the casuals will go to Iphone or Xbox 720 for Kinect, Nintendo wants the core and casual, both not 1 more than the other.

Funny because during the PS2 era we heard about much the PS2 was selling and how it was good for the industry from developers.
They called the PS2 the "mature" audience.

You are the first person I've seen to call PS2 owners "casual".

Remember the industry dogged the Gamecube for having the kiddy system and audience.

I hate this casual/hardcore trend out there. Looks like the U version can be more "hardore" (still no real definiton on that I see) because it's going to be way more immersive. Isn't immersive gameplay "hardcore"?

Almost everyone owned a ps2 back then. Of course it had the largest part of the casual pie (basically almost all of them), but it also had the largest part of "core" gamers.

The industry didn't support the gamecube because of low sales and because nintendo is nintendo.
What businessmen say is usually a lie you know.

FIFA 13 - Wii U differences interview

Postby Battlestriker123 » 07 Aug 2012 00:03

Guys, calm down. The Wii U is assumingly going to take some of its casual audience from the Wii, so relatively speaking, the Wii U will have a more "casual" audience than PS4/X720. Yes, the guy did mention that the extra features will help the casual, but he also equally emphasizes how it will enhance the experience of the hardcore. Stop with the dumb hardcore v. casual debate, please!

"hardcore" games have the four following elements:

Guns
Gore
Girls
Graphics

@Battlestriker123
During the PS2 era, it was the Gamecube that had its games dumbed down to fit the kiddy audience .

The "casual"/kiddy thing only applies to Nintendo, regardless of the actual userbase demographics.

I got irked when I heard the guy say "the Wii U is geared more toward a casual audience".

Isn't a system 'geared toward' whatever demographic you make games on it for?

Oh wait, people are always going to have a "but it's Nintendo" mentality. I forgot. Ugh.

I thought Nintendo was really going after the hardcore audience with Wii U? EA obviously doesn't think so. Sure, there will be a lot of casual gamers eventually, but early adopters of any technology are not "casual" users...

Whenever they say "casual audience", I think they mean that it is easier to play. The Game Pad? Games will be easier than ever.

FIFA 13 - Wii U differences interview

Postby highlar » 07 Aug 2012 03:19

From what I have been reading in actual hands-on previews of this game, I DO plan on buying it. I usually stay FAR away from sports games...don't really enjoy playing them...but there's one mode in here that really seems to speak to me: Manager Mode. The Wii U seems MADE for it. And everything I've read about it has me salivating. Sure, manager modes have been in other games, but to me they have always been plagued by massive menus etc. that get in the way of the "fun" factor. However, with the Gamepad, it is so streamlined and it sounds perfect. All the stats you could dream of are in menus that are at your fingertips! Feel like a player is screwing up too much? Make an instant substitution! Your teams opponents running circles around you? Quickly draw up some new runs for your team to put in play to counterattack. I think EA has really hit the nail on the head with this mode, and I would pick this game up for that mode alone. And then there are comments from those that have tried it that sound in many ways that it plays VERY well with the added Gamepad functions when playing the main game modes, the most popular online modes in the game, AND always on Friend list messaging from an onscreen keyboard??? So what if it doesn't have EVERYthing that the PS3/360 versions have? I'm in for it!

FIFA 13 - Wii U differences interview

Postby Elfteiroh » 07 Aug 2012 16:57

@highlar
What this guy said. This may be the first sport game I get IN MY ENTIRE LIFE.

Also, MY definition of casual and hardcore:
Casual: Play game, but have more important hobbies.
Hardcore: Playing game is their main hobby.
Me: I prefer talking about and making games, so I consider myself a Casual even though I own close to 500 games, all the Nintendo consoles and a PS3 that play PS2 and PS1 games. I think of them as "research tools".
Shy Guy? How did I return to that?? I was a Koopa? ... AWESOME!
