Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 - GC or PS2 ?

After the huge disappointment of the recent Wii version of Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, I seriously thought about buying an Xbox 360 or PS3 just to play the HD version. However, I can't justify buying a new (or even second-hand) console just for one game.

I read some reviews of Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 which came out on PS2 and GameCube ages ago. The reviews are good with the PS2 version getting generally better scores.

My questions are:

In your experience, ss the game any good?
How does it compare to NFS:Most Wanted on GC (which I absolutely love)?
If it is good, which version should I get, the PS2 or GameCube version?

The PS2 version is apparently a bit better but I would have to get up in the loft, find my old PS2, connect it all up, have it take up space under my TV, etc, etc.

The GameCube version - well, I can just play it on my Wii - I already have GameCube controllers.

So, is the PS2 version so much better than the GameCube version to make it worth all the trouble of setting up my old PS2 and the inevitable earache from the missus? Or is the GameCube version good enough to not bother?

I have the Gamecube version and it is a really fun game, probably my favorite Need for Speed game I've played. Graphics look very nice and the controls are fine once you get used to them a bit. There are a bunch of different cars and courses.. I can't comment on the PS2 version since I never played it, but I'm guessing it is the same.... So, you should just get it for GC since it sounds like it would be more convenient for you anyways, being able to play it on the Wii and all.

Your probably better off buying Burnout 3 for the ps2. It’s by the same guys as Hot Pursuit. And Burnout 1 and 2 are available for the gamecube. I’m not a fan of the Need for Speed series the only reason I’m interested in Hot Pursuit is because Criterion made it. They didn’t do the Wii version though and it’s shows.

Thanks Mako: I will be getting the GameCube version. If it's good enough for you, it'll be good enough for me. And I'll avoid dusting off my PS2 and having to use wired remotes again (I have a wireless GC controller).

Thanks What What: I already have one of the Burnouts on GameCube (2, I think) but I wasn't that fond of it. It just seemed to be about crashing into things for the sake of crashing. I didn't play it for long though, so perhaps I'll give it another chance.

There are a lot more games on HD consoles than just HP.
