Who: The Gonintendo Community, with all of their infinite wisdom and processing power.

What: A Folding@Home team. The Stanford Folding@Home project is one of distributed computing. The Stanford servers send your computer "work units". These units, also known as proteins, are then folded using excess cycles from your processor, designed not to disrupt whatever you are currently doing. The project aims to see how proteins fold, how they misfold, and ultimately how to help with the diseases this misfolding causes.

When: 24/7 or however long you wish to participate in the group. The client works best when you let it do its thing without turning off your computer. The project is open to anyone willing to join the team, always. If you want to fold, we can hook you up.

Where: Your computer! Your computer(s), work computer, servers, BBSs, PBXs, etc. Just about any computer can fold a unit on a variety of operating systems. There are also standalone clients for things such as your Sony Playstation 3.

Why: Through the use of the Folding@Home project, more research can be done into diseases affecting many people. By understanding how proteins fold and how some misfold, more information becomes available on how to fix and prevent problems caused by misfolds.

How: Simply download the client from the link above for your operating system of choice, enter in a name for yourself, and the Gonintendo team number 62700 where appropriate and let the client do its work. Its all that simple.

Actually, I think it is about making proteins folding. This is something that happens in a HUMAN that can cause serious problems later on.

You simulate protein (mis)folding (bad) to help better learn about how to cure this problem.

 Ok wow... tyroxx you have the weirdest way of describing cancer i've ever heard. The program simulates a cells life cycle. Human bodies are really really complex proteins. The program helps them figure out why your cells screw up (misfold) and cause cancer which is cells multiplying when they are'nt supposed to. Basicly the program helps them find a cure for cancer or protein related diseases.
Your saving lives not fixing computers :P

Cort, is there any way you could sticky this so we can have the whole community help out. I know Gonintendo is a massive group. We could do great things...if only people knew...

We could also put this on the Gonintendo Myspace group.

If you don't sticky this, I will take no offense though. If we don't have enough people that want to help, nothing can be done.

the program actually works best when you're not using it; so it can devote 100% of the cpu to the task.

on a related note... the Folding@home app on ps3 was just updated, now called "Life with Playstation". some cool new features. if you have a ps3, download or update your copy to check it out!

I have just helped a cause. It actually does feel good to help fight disease even though my Dial-Up is now slightly slower. At least it's virus-free though.

If I get boinc running on a third client at any point I will start a new account just to be part of the gonintendo team.

Does this team exist for all projects or just folding@home?

LOL, after all this time, I never knew GoNin had a Folding@Home Team.
Now my question is, is there any way I can add multiple teams to my F@H?
I'm probably using an old version, but I wonder if team # can be separated by comma.
