Things about yourself that took you years to realize

Postby Eternal Rain » 01 Apr 2011 00:35

For me there's at least two things:

This is the most recent: apparently, I'm nearsighted. Not horribly nearsighted to the point where things that are far away look like a total blur (like a camera changing focus), but sometimes things can come off looking much blurrier to me than they should be to someone with perfect 20-20 vision. Maybe this explains why 3D doesn't bother me at all, I'm always looking at it close up. (yeah I don't know if that last part is true, I'm just guessing) I haven't had a doctor check me out, but I always suspected it when I started to have trouble reading the white boards during class. A fellow classmate was kind enough to let me use her glasses for a second to check something, and sure enough the writing on the white board because clear as crystal upon putting the glasses on. Gonna need to get a doctor to check me out first and then hopefully I can get some glasses before next semester begins (it'll make note taking easier since taking notes this semester and the last one started to become a pain).

This one is older, and one I didn't know until after my parents informed me of it in either middle or high school (I forget when). I'm partially autistic as well. I've got what's called Asperger's Syndrome (yeah yeah, I've heard the "lol it rhymes with 'ass burgers'" jokes before, not our fault the condition was named after an Austrian man with a last name that sounds weird in English). I tend not to think too much about it (nor do I bring it up often on the internet since places like Something Awful and 4chan like to make fun of autism in general), but I have looked at the "symptoms list" a few times and was surprised to find I do display many of them. Some aren't as bad as they were when I was a child since people with Aspergers can improve their condition over time, but admitted some are still there and can be pretty noticeable to those with knowledge of the condition beforehand. For one I do have rather limited "interests" (maybe not as limited as when I was a child, but it's still not a very large list) and even though this is something you can't tell over the internet I do have motor and verbal "oddities" (best way to say it is that I basically have "tics" without them being actual "tics," it's a bit hard for me to explain).

So yeah, that's all I wanted to say for this "made out of boredom" random thread.

I always presumed I was short-sighted too, because I struggle reading things in the distance (but I'm fine for near things like books) - but apparently I'm actually slightly long-sighted. Seems weird. But only slightly, I rarely wear my glasses these days. So I guess that's one thing!

Other than that I'm not sure of anything else...

It took me a while to realize that I like full figured women. BBWs. What are BBWs?

Big beautiful women

I've liked big girls for a long time, but I was insecure to admit it around friends until about late High School. Now I'm totally open about loving big girls.

i always thought i am a spontaneous free thinker. it took me 25 years (i turn 27 this summer) to realize that i am actually a man that plans everything, has a plan for everything and does nothing that does not fit within my constraining boundaries. i am not spontanious. i am a schemer. ironically, i hate people like that XD

@Eternal Rain

My best friend has Aspergers. I found out a few years ago, and now it seems like I'm seeing it everywhere.

Anyway, I've just recently discovered that I have talent in photography. I got a good camera this past Christmas and I've amassed a huge collection of nature photos. Most people seem impressed by them, and a few have told me I missed my calling. I wonder if I could sell them or something.

Also, I am very shy irl and I have realized that sometimes in a moment of shyness, I come off as very rude. Not sure what I can do about that.

I'm definitely not a morning person. I don't have a terrible time trying to get up in the morning, but given the option to do so, I will almost never get up before 12 p.m.

There's also a lot of negative things about myself that took me a long time to recognize and I'm discovering new things that I don't like about myself everyday. However, I'd rather not bog down this thread with too much depressing self-loathing. ;P

Anyway, I'm really good at using Microsoft PowerPoint. There are very few things I can do that I'm not aware of anyone else I know being able to do better, but working with Microsoft PowerPoint is one of them.

I guess it's kind of weird admitting all of these things when I just joined a few days ago, but they're things I'd really, really like to get off my chest(this seems like an accepting environment, so I'm hoping I won't be ridiculed!). Over the years, I've realized a number of things about myself:

-I have difficulty hearing.

-I am socially awkward(though I have improved a lot over time)

-I have an unclassifiable mental disability. Higher functioning than Asperger's, but somehow related. Which might explain the above.

-I've never admitted this before, but like Zidane, I do find myself attracted to "big" women. Not necessarily something I'd look for in a relationship(I'm more of a personality person), but something that I feel regardless.

Two unrelated things about me that I've recently come to realize.
-I think about dead things WAY too often. I actually scare myself sometimes. Though, ironically, I can't handle watching horror movies. (and if anyone says it's because I play too much CoD, I'm going to freak out...)
-I have never wanted to acknowledge this before, but I am just no good at fps games. I practice and practice, but I don't seem to be getting any better. It's still fun to play, I just realize I suck.

I talk to myself too much, when I was studying in school or college it helped me focus. And when I'm work it's like a brainstorming. I need to talk to myself in order to be efficient. While others think I'm crazy.

I realize now that I'm in a way a selfish person because of my self pity which I always focus on all the things bad that happen to me and forget about other people.

im 15, but I found out im really differnt from my family at 12. Im (suppose to be) Mexican-American. I was born in Pasadena,California, and both my parents are hispanic (and born in america). For some reason I dont like mexican food. Tamales, menudo, carne asada, i just didnt like. I love burritos, cheese quesiidiallas, and churros, but my favorite foods are pizza and spagghetti. Thats not such a bad thing, but when you eat those over your cultural cuisines, you stick out a little. Whenever we go to a mexican resturant, I feel ackward being the only one having a burger. What makes thing worse is I cant speak spanish. Even though spanish is our second language, my dad is the only one who knows how to speak it. Now every time I eat italian food, my dad jokes that I was born from a Mafia family.

I have just realized that I can do much more than I used to think I could... And that we should appreciate the time we spend with people who you care about. It will end soon...

I realized I was allergic to something. Don't know what, but it was something in my cousin's house that made me cough like crazy.

I realized I spend far too much time highlighting the empty space on the desktop on my computer.
This reminds me of a puzzle.
