$25 in eShop buck to blow. What should I buy?

Postby nGen » 11 May 2012 19:32

So at the end of this month, I'm getting a nice $20 gift certificate from my work that I'm going to use to buy a $20 eShop card. I want to know, from people who have bought games, what should I spend it on?

I already have:
Pushmo
Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
Super Mario Land
Super Mario Land 2
Donkey Kong '94
Kirby's Dream Land
Excitebike 3D Classic
Metroid 2
Zelda 4 Swords Adventure

Any suggestions (and reasons behind said suggestions) would be great.

Mutant Mudds is pretty good. It definitely has a different sort of pacing and handling than Mario Land or Kirby, but it's pretty fun. Has a decent challenge to it and a good amount of content, too. :) Try the demo out if you're on the fence!

If you haven't gone through much of the DSiWare stuff, there is some great stuff to find there, too.

Spotto is really great and only two bucks. It's a simple puzzler, and it offers 50 levels and then harder versions of those, too. A lot of content for the price!

A lot of the G.G. Series stuff is really cool, with Ninja Karakuri Den in particular being pretty great. It's an action-arcade game with a ton of stages (at least 50, if I remember correctly) that I found really addictive.

I heard from a friend that Magical Whip is also a great arcade game, though I'm not sure about its price.

Finally, Aura Aura Climber is really cool. It has ten normal stages and an endless mode, and it's just really fun to play for a few moments.

As you can tell, I tend to enjoy arcade-style games, so that's what I mostly have experience with here. I don't have too many 3DS-only software at the moment, though, so sorry if you're looking for more of that sort of stuff.

As far as 3DSdownloads go I would recommend Pyramids it plays alot like Game Boy Donkey Kong, there are a lot of levels and the difficulty curve isn't to steep. Mighty Switch Force is a awesome MegaMan style game while currently its fairly short there are new stages coming soon for free. VVVVVV is a great game its just insanely challenging! 3D Classics Kirby's Adventure is also a great game. Games to avoid in my opinion are most of the 3D Classics unless you like a certain game, Dillon's Rolling Western and Sakura Samurai are kind of meh.

DSiWare: Go with Mighty Flip Champs!, Mighty Milky Way, Shantae Risky's Revenge and Cave Story all are amazing games!

3DS:
-VVVVVV ($8) - EXTREMELY GREAT. The best game on the service BY FAR. Definately worth it, but there are cheaper alternatives on PC.
-Fun Fun Minigolf Touch ($5) is really fun, and definately worth it at 5$, especially if you like golf games.
-Mighty Switch Force ($6) is cool too, a bit short though (getting an update with more levels though), beautiful sprite work though.
-Mutant Mudds ($9) is the second best game on the service - an excellent platformer.
-Sakura Samurai ($7) is a fun little action/timing game, dont know if it was worth 7$ though.
-Zen Pinball ($7) is basically pinball, lol. Graphics are beautiful though, but I would have swallowed a purchase much easier at something like 5$. I think 7 is a little too much for it.
-Bird Mania 3D ($2) is basically a run-forever game that you'd find on iOS, but for 2$ I'd say go for it.
-3D Classics ($5-$7) are just old NES games in 3D - if you like the game, you'll like the 3D Classic.
-Stay away from Freakyforms ($7), IMO... I hate that game so much. No fun at all.

Those are the games I have that I would recommend to you, from what I have. There are more, too, and some of those are apparently really good too (Dillon, Ketzal, etc.). I don't have 'em though, so no comments from me.

Don't have much DSiWare, so I cant really recommend much from that. There are some greats there though, dont get me wrong. I just prioritize 3DS and VC purchases over them, so I dont have many of them. From what I have, Mario vs. Donkey Kong (8$), PiCTOBiTS (5$/150 coins on CN for month of May), and Rayman ($8) are the ones to get. 10 Second Run and Aura Aura Climber are really good too, and they're only $2 each..

3D Classics Kid Icarus: if you like a challenge

Mighty Switch Force: Its pretty good, but short though in the future I heard they'll add a few more levels weather you buy it now or later.

Mutant Mudds: If you like old school platformers.

Zen Pinball: If you like pinball games to a degree. :p
※I'll be playing Resident Evil Revelations Wii U on weekends alot so lets play Raid Mode sometime!(ツ) ☆Image

VVVVVV - 17+ hours of content if you want to beat the whole thing and collect all the items

3D Classics: Kirby's Adventure - so much fun! It's a Kirby game! In 3D! I'm sorry but I luuuuvvvvv Kirby!

Cave Story+ 3D - I know it's not out yet, but I'm saving up for that game right now!

I would also recommend that you get VVVVVV and save up for Cave Story 3D. Both games are must haves. I also suggest Mutant Mudds, Mighty Switch Force, and DSiWare games like Shantee and Plants VS. Zombies is you don't have them already.

The "main" game isn't that long. It took me just over 3 hours to rescue everyone and I have 17/20 items. There are stil all the "Player Levels" to play through though. Am I missing something? :P

3D Classics Kid Icarus: It's a fun title and the updated controls make it possible to beat the game.

Mutant Mudds: I like how it feels like I'm playing a game made for the NES. The music is awesome and it offers a good challenge.

Colors 3D: Love this app! If you love to draw you should get this app. It's cool that you can go online and look at other peoples' pictures. It does have some problems but the developer plans to do a big update that fixes problems and adds extra features.

Mario's Picross: It's originally a gameboy title and comes with a lot of puzzles. Great game to just pick up and play while out. The price isn't bad either.
MasterofMonsters is super awesome! I lost a bet. Hehe!

@Mako

Does the 3DS version of VVVVVV have the level creator yet? I thought I read somewhere that they wanted to add that.

Nope! You're absolutely right. The main game takes about 3 hours. But there ARE 8 other levels, many of which are more difficult than the main game AND will take longer than 3 hours to beat. So with 3 hours per level and 9 levels in total... 18 hours of gameplay! Of course, if you suck (like me), it'll probably take longer XD

Those are some impressive math skills there.

Thank you all for the tips. I ended up getting:

VVVVVV (really fun and challenging)
Mighty Switch Force (Not as good as I expected, but still fun)
Sakura Samurai (haven't started yet)
Kirby's Block Ball (Mario Picross was a close second choice)

Dillon's a rolling Western was good. I hope they make a full retail game some day.
Don't sit there and peek around the corner and ask me stupid questions when I'm playing a video game like 'who's winning?' I'M winning. that's all you need to know.
