Fighting games suggestions?

Postby TheLastBlade » 20 May 2012 03:54

I want to buy some fighting games so I can play and enjoy them with my friends and family (No, I do not wish to buy Ultimate Marvel vs Crapcom, Street Hobbos x Tekken, and other garbage).
Bang.

See you, Space Cowboy...

Check out King of Fighters XIII. Best fighter of the gen. It's pretty complicated, however, so I'm not sure if it's the best game for casual play with fam/friends. I've heard good things about Skull Girls, but I haven't checked it out yet.

On the Wii, you have the king of Fighters collection (hardcore gamer), the Samurai Shodown collection (hardcore gamer), Gulty Gear XX and Tatsunoko vs Capcom. This one is very easy to pick for everyone and really fun (same for Brawl) but it needs a classic controller. It's maybee the best VS and Capcom fighting licence from this gen. I'm more a SNK gamer but i really liked this one, there is a lot to do.
If you have a HD console, it would be criminal not to pick KOF XIII (hardcore gamer). Mortal Kombat is quite good too if you like the old games in the franchise. The next VF5 (hardcore gamer) is something you cannot miss too. On WiiWare you have a selection of Neo Geo titles (Fatal Fury Special and 3 for example).

Oh snap, totally forgot Guilty Gear. XX Accent Core is easily the most balanced fighting game currently out there. Mechanically, it's a better game than KoF XIII, but I prefer SNK's sprite work so KoF just barely gets the edge. Anyway, the Wii version is pretty rare nowadays, but it's being released on PSN/XBLA this summer so you should definitely check it out.

Speaking of Guilty Gear, Arc System's Arcana Hearts 3 is a fantastic game as well. I wouldn't blame you if the character designs turned you off (I'm not a fan either), but the combat system is exceptional.

Incidentally, Persona 4 Arena, yet another Arc fighter is being released in August. Not a fan of the RPG series, but Arena looks like a solid game. Keep in mind, however, all these games are some of the most complicated entries in the genre so be prepared for a steep learning curve.

If none of those games interest you, then you may as well wait for the next few games to come out. There's the upcoming Dead or Alive 5, too.

You can get on Virtual Console the street fighter 2 turbo SNES version or even better street fighter 2' ce for the Genesis. This one is the best SF2 version port ever since it's based on the most balanced version. Forget about any other versions.
