Sadly this is kind of true which is why you end up with people like this who believe there's nothing wrong with their beliefs and that their actions are wholly justified.

As a Christian, and as a Southern Baptist, these people piss me off.

If anybody says they are a "true christian" while saying the bible tells them to hate certain groups of people, I cry bullshit. Do these people forget that Jesus equated hating people in your thoughts to murder? That both are an equal sin in his eyes? Do you really think God is going to encourage people to sin, something that pulls people further away from Him, when all he wants is for us to love him and be close to him?

You know something? I love the "Jesus Loophole". :D You can get pissed off about something without hating someone or doing something to physically harm them. Just look at Jesus and the money changers at the temple.

Well, to me anyway.

The video in question

Interesting words... deplorable, sanctimonious, but interesting words. Regardless of your own religious affliations and regardless of whether or not you personally despise the religion in its many forms, people such as this are indicative only of their own outlandish ideology. These individuals who harbor such obvious disregard for the value of human life are a despicable aberration on the human race in themselves.

As a pertinent sidenote, I also found some of the more, shall we say, incendiary, comments uttered by Reverend Phelps:

"The Lord God Almighty killed [the people who died on 9/11], looked at them in the face, laughed and mocked at each one of them as he cast each one of them into hell".

"This is the hypocritical, f**-infested, f**-run United States of America and we're supposed to respect that f** rag flag?"

"The red on that flag stands for f** rectal blood".

"On Pope John Paul II's watch, the Catholic Church became the church of the holy pedophiles. And sodomite feces replaced the wafer for their communion service. And Sodomite semen replaced the wine that the Pope drinks".

(I'm actually rather impressed with his uncanny ability to mention me and my fellow sodomites at nearly every turn. I must tip my f** hat to him, but I'm sure he'd merely retort that me and my cap will soon have a nice warm place in Hell where we'll be subjected to unbearably large genitalia whose sole purpose is to rip our anal orifices until we realize the horrid err of our homosexual ways.)

Thoughts?

dont know they are not useful then they are passed away.

Jesus said "Love thy neighbor." Period. These guys are twisting the bible's meaning for they're own agendas and as a christian I'm appauled that these are the types that are usually paraded on tv. I may not agree with someone else's opinion on something, but it doesn't mean I hate them or wish them harm or death. Peace.

But I do believe homosexuality is wrong. I just don't know how you could come to the conclusion from that.

God doesn't just hate f** he hates all sinners. But no, we always have to focus on f** or whatever.

I dissagree with that last part, God is Love, He hates Sin, not Sinners!

P.S. I believe that homosexuality is wrong, but almost everything that woman said is blasphemous and utterly foolish!

The funniest thing I've ever seen was a sign that they made that said "MODS BAN ME PLEASE eat poop". When asked what that meant, she elabourated that it was a scientific act that homosexuals consume feces.

“The tendency to turn human judgments into divine commands makes religion one of the most dangerous forces in the world.”

That's all I have to say

I'm not a believer myself, but I'm glad someone still remembers [and lives life by] that meaning [one of my favourite game quotes actually is 'You don't need a reason to help someone', which I think applies to all people, of all faiths, or none set in stone].

It's one of the reasons I'm personally still appalled at how much homophobia is still rampant over in the US [and it doesn't help that there's bigots in seats of power either], and that I'm so glad I didn't grow up there...

TYFIGHTER wrote:Wow... please dont think that this is how a normal Christian is! Im not very religious, but Christians are really good people. A lot pf people I know are christian, and this so called church is just very messed up and is practicing false teachings. So dont think this is how Christians feel about soldiers and America, because we dont. Christians founded this nation... they arent going to be the ones who destroy it.

Oh I know that [any sane person should know not to generalise a group, especially one as big in scope as Christianity] - despite the ills I personally feel towards some core aspects of America [gun obsessive, racist bigots in seats of power, no separation of religion and politics].

Although your last statement... hasn't that been the case for every civilisation that has met its end?

Christian's founded this nation... they aren't gonna be the one's that destroy it.

That sentence makes little sense to me :P
The truth is PEOPLE founded every nation. And PEOPLE are always the ones who destroy them.
Regardless of religion.

When the problem of slaves came up in America. Both sides claimed that  was telling them the right thing to do. It's not like Christianity helped the country not split apart. The same could happen now and I don't believe religion would help.

I thought this nation was founded on hatred for the people who were here first?

No, no, that was coincidence. It was founded on us thinking we were better than everyone else. I'm glad that not everything has changed in the past 200+ years.
