360 backwards compatibility

Postby 4th reich » 19 Jan 2006 01:07

Is it just me, o should it be FULLY backwards compatible when it launces, not when they update the emulator online whenever they get to it?

Even the games on the list of playable have bugs. I'm just dissapointed. It shouldn't be hard for a company that made the system to make an emulator for another that they make.

you try getting an x86 console working on a triple core, 6 threaded powerpc architecture chip.

i'm shocked they even had backwards support with the few titles they did.

it's all economic, they want you to buy 360 games, not xbox games.

why would they want you to pick between 12 games at launch. I know some people that dont have a gamecube, but will buy gamecube games when the revolution comes out. therefore, instead of people just buying launch games, they could buy launch games and old games. which equals more money. Microsoft cares more about money than that. they are silly.

The system is powerfull enough to run it with only one of the cores. It's very possible, they pushed pushed the release date too much. You don't put aout a system unless EVERYthing for it is ready. Not just most. Those are my standards. I spent my money expecting a better prepared product.

they definitely want to sell 360 games, but one of the biggest features of the PS2 that skyrocketed it to fame was the backward compatibility of both games and peripherals. xbox360 tries to use the same tactic this generation, but unless it truly is BC, partial support is a bit misleading to customers; and because it's a major selling point/deciding factor for many people, they shouldn't have listed it at all. they could have rather touted 'expandable gameplay through live updates' or something, which would be marketer's jargon for 'backward compatibility that improves over time' :-P

Making games that worked on a console that had an Intel CPU and Nvidia GPU run on a console that has an IBM CPU and ATI GPU isn't easy. They'll update the b/c list and eventually they'll have every game for the Xbox to play on the 360.

It doesn't have to be easy. They still should be able to do it.

If they say backwards compatibility, it should be backwards compatible.

It is backwards compatable with over 200 titles, and that will grow with time.

200 titles with bugs.

They shouldn't say backwards compatible unless they all work.

Would you be dissapointed if the rev only plays half of the GC games?

The PS2 was fully compatible. M$ just didn't deliver on backwards compatibility.

I wouldn't be playing my GC games when I get my Revolution, I'll be playing new games.

It seems you lack the understanding to know that because they changed their graphics supplier they had to create a emulator. Not only that but the people working at Microsoft have to also add the coding into the emulator to allow the games to run. This process could take months because this has to be done for almost every single game.

Well there are folks (like myself) who don't own a GC, infact I know many of folks who didn't take the plunge buying a Gamecube last generation and have since looked at the library and saw many games they would want to buy. The Revolution, gives them a chance to go back and pick up those games and continue forward.
