Well I don't watch any anime, mainly because I don't get Cartoon Network anymore. But I'm still a big fan of....*prepares for onslaught* Dragonball Z :)

That was the only Anime I ever got into. It was just so cool.. although some parts are extremely cheesy :D

Like:
Frieza: YOU HAVE FIVE MINUTES TILL THE PLANET EXPLODES!!!!111
*30 minutes and an episode later*
Frieza: YOU HAVE THREE MINUTES TILL THE PLANET EXPLODES!!!111

My all time favourite currently is Revolutionary Girl: Utena - The Movie.

This was the anime that really got me back into anime. Prior to 1999, I had grown up with various anime on television... the Robotech, Astroboy, Voltron, Sailor Moon and such... borrow VHS tapes of Ghost in The Shell and the like.

But going to the Utena Canadian Premeire in 1999 was what really kicked the interest with it into a higher level. I'd wholeheartedly suggest the animated series and manga's of Utena to any open-minded individual. The movie doesn't make much sense without some backstory of the anime or manga... although its a retelling of the manga and anime

Other stuff I'm really into (not just shojo):
Ah! My Goddess (OVA, TV and Movies), Video Girl Ai, Scrapped Princess, Naruto (yup... deep in that - looks at avatar), Bleach, Air Master, Vampire Hunter D, Sabre Marrionnette J, Millenium Actress.

Then you have the usuall suspects:
Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Princess Mononoke, Samurai Champloo, etc...

I'd say there's an anime for everyone... just like a movie for everyone and like a video game (even more true with what Nintendo is trying to do) for everyone!

I'm not really that deep into anime. The two that I've really gotten into and seen the entire series of are Trigun and Neon Genesis Evangelion, both of which I found fantastic.

I've also seen a bit of Cowboy Bebop, but not much.

Goodness, this is a deep question.

Cowboy Bebop is my favorite. My others are Gundam Wing, Gundam Seed, Gundam X, Evangalion (minus the last two episodes), anything by Miyazaki (mostly Howl's moving Castle and Nausicaa), Full Metal Alchemist, Outlaw Star, that movie where the town is actually on the back of a giant space turtle, Kenshin, and Samurai Champloo.

I'm pretty sure there are others, but I can't think of any right now.

Oh, and Trigun (the subtitled version).

Of all time, anything in the Tenchi series. And there's a whole lot in the Tenchi series.

At the moment, a tie between Bleach, Detective Conan, Galaxy Angel, and Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu.

b214 wrote:*edit* has anyone seen, oh god can't remember the name, the kid was Conan or somethin like that. It was the kid mystery solver that used to be on at 5:30 am on adult swim after lupin the 3rd. Lupin and that were both good.

Case Closed is the English name, Detective Conan is the Japanese name.

So nobody likes Dragonball Z? ;)

@bjorna: I used to watch Pokemon too.. but I mostly just wanted to see how the different Pokemon behaved.. I HATED Ash... I wanted to choke him everytime I watched it :P He was just so stupid and yet he got lucky every time. I even made a game called "Whack-Ash" :P

I remembered I did watch some of Cowboy Beebop and it was pretty cool. If I didn't feel so bad about downloading episodes I would probably watch it. But like I said I don't get CTN anymore. Oh well..

It seems like a lot of people rag on Dragon Ball. I wonder why?
What about Ranma 1/2? That is by far one of my most favorite series, ever.
But, I think this is the new generation of anime that a lot of people are watching.
When I lived in America, the only anime on television was maybe Transformers and Voltron. Later, I used to order VHS tapes of Ranma 1/2 from Viz. At that time they were based in California (maybe they still are, I don't know). It was ridiculously expensive, running 29.95 per tape! I also spent a lot of money in Chinatown buying the latest Dragon Ball tapes subbed in English. We also have them dubbed in Chinese, but it doesn't quite fit right.

I don't know much about the new animes (by new, I mean the last 5-10 years!) but I remember loving Akira way back when, and Appleseed as well, which I still have on VHS :D .
I thought Evangelion was spectacular (still do) but I haven't watched it in quite some time. Cowboy Bebop was great too, but I wasn't very fond of the dub.

I guess I am an old-timer of sorts  . I'll always stand by DBZ and Ranma.

Dragon Ball, the original series was fine. Nice mixture of comedy and action. Dragon Ball Z, is best watched in long chunks (perferably 3 or 4 episodes at a time) as the pacing of the show slows down to a hault in some instances and makes it unbareable to watch.

Naruto has sort of the same problem from time to time. The anime tends to reference itself far too much, for example Naruto goes to fight fighter B and something fighter B reminds him of Sakura... then we are treated to a 10 min flashback of all the moments had with Sakura (which most are fresh in the viewers mind already), then as they come out of the flashback and begin to approach each other... end of episode. Its good how they like to tie things together... but sometimes they over do it.

I think it is just a stigma that dubbing has. The majority of dubbs are bad, despite how good the anime is (i.e. Trigun is one that comes to mind).

Cowboy Bebop, in my mind, is the best dub I've seen. The voices fit the characters, and the acting is spot on.

As for DBZ, I was a huge fan. At the time. I downloaded the movies that were not released in the US, the unofficial music videos (go find DBZ set to Particle Man. Genius), and the ilk. But looking back, there are animes that are just SOOO much better. It's the same with Pokemon.

series: big o, fullmetal alchemist, samurai 7, samurai champloo, along with a couple other adult swim 'oldies'

movies: princess mononoke, akira, ghost in the shell, nausicaa, castle in the sky, for starters :)

not sure if transformers or voltron is considered anime, but i LOVED those shows growing up. vintage appeal!

Wait a second... Am I the only one who liked Grave of the Fireflies? Has anyone else seen it? It's a film, not a series. And it's actually very dramatic, nothing futuristic or crazy. It's just a straight forward story and realistic in the way it's approached. Very sad, though, but I really liked it.

Best dub I've heard was Goldenboy... to the point where it surpasses the original japanese dialogue.

Oh, man, I can't believe I forgot movies in my post. Yeah, GotF is one of the greatest animes (And one of the greatest films, period) that I've ever seen. It's one of the few movies that moves me to tears. Also, Akira and Spirited Away are incredible.

Oh yeah, if I may veer us into manga, I've been reading FMA and Naruto recently. :D

Jin-Roh is on my netflix list. I must admit though, it may take me a while to get to, I have almost 70 films on that list. I'm sure it will get pushed up to the top soon, but I do have a lot of must sees before that. Plus since classes started back up, I'm going to be a busy little bee. Especially since a requirement in my one class is to play Civ III. Yeah... you read that correctly. :D

I will also agree about Arrested Development being one of the funniest shows in a long time. The talent that crafted those episodes are brilliant. And the actors really brought those characters to life. I have never been so impressed with an ensemble as I was with that entire production team.

And thank you for agreeing with me about Grave of the Fireflies. I was afraid that either I am the only one who liked good films, or maybe it was really bad and I was oblivious to it. But you have restored my trust that I do like good films. Rock on, amigo.

Rock on, all of my Amigos!!!

Riiiight... sorry if I like my anime to be free of distractingly bad dubing and rediculous dialouge.
