Anyone grabbing Glory of Heracles?

Postby belmontlegacy » 10 Jan 2010 13:16

Been reading up on it and it sounds interesting enough. Just wondering if it will end up being a decent game in the end.

In all honesty, I want to pick the game up because it does look interesting. But I don't think I ever will for three simple letters R-P-G. I relate to RMC so much in that I have never been able to play traditional, 'hardcore', the-kind-that-Japan-can't-get-enough-of RPGs. I love Paper Mario with all my heart and can even stand some of the more recent Castlevania games but only because they are not 100% RPGs. If I am at a misunderstanding about this game and it is more along the lines of an action RPG or something else, I may take a closer look at it. But otherwise Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, this game, etc are off-limits for me.

Sad, but true.

I want it, but Sands of Destruction is coming first, and I'm hoping that it'll keep me busy for a while. I'll pick up Heracles as soon as I'm done; I enjoy having an RPG to play alongside a puzzle or an adventure game, or whatever good DS games are around all the time :)

Probably not, because greek mythology and anime my not be the perfect match.

Unless Nintendo releases a demo on the NC, then maybe.

yeah, I'll get it. at first I wasnt too interested but after doing some searching on this game it kinda looks a little like Golden Sun. plus, being a college student, I feel that something on Greek Mythology could spark my interests in humanities classes.

I cannot find this game locally...looks like I'll have to order it online. Anyone else having problems finding it in retail stores?

You all need to go find this or order it. Quite the charming little game it turned out to be. I'm liking this a lot more than Sands of Destruction.

I finally found this game at Wal-Mart of all places! I will be firing it up as soon as I finish Mario & Luigi. :)

The DS is quite the little RPG machine. I love it to death. I'm waiting on DQ VI and IX and for Square-Enix to announce FF VI in 3D =P

I'm waiting for your impression.

All done with Mario & Luigi (incredibly awesome game!), and so I finally popped in Glory of Heracles. I'd have to say that the game looks good, not great. Visually it is smooth, but there is slow down if you constantly mash the buttons while exploring (which you do not need to do, it's just something I noticed). The engine is nice, but could have used more work. It is much nicer in motion, though...but not that much.

As far as most JRPG's go, though, it's a very nice game. There are a ton of choices for the player, as you get two weapon slots, or a weapon and shield. You can enchant your items, which is a nice touch, and give your character skills and spells he may not have access to normally. The spells are preset by the item you are enchanting, and although you can't choose what you want to enchant the item with, it comes in handy.

You level up, as normal, but I haven't noticed too much of a grind. Battles are fairly common, and random, with the expected boss battles throughout. For me, it is on the edge of annoying, as far as how quickly the battles trigger...I guess I would have to say not as bad as Suikoden.

The game is easy, though. If I were to recommend a JRPG to new DS owners, this would be it. It does hold your hand a little too much at times, which can annoy some people. It didn't annoy me, and I rather enjoyed a game that I wasn't dying every 5 seconds (EOII, Dark Spire, both games I love). It was a nice change, to be honest.

The battles are very easy, as well. But, I remember reading where one reviewer said he played out his battles on auto. Well, he must have only played a few hours, because after you level your characters, and they get spells and skills, auto combat is useless. Your party will cast and use every useless spell and skill, buffing your party, and never attacking. You do have to plan out battles, at least I did. Auto combat was a no go, for me. But, as I said, even boss battles are easy.

The setting is the real draw, as I love Greek mythology. And, although it doesn't get deep, the game world is a nice change from the regular generic fantasy world. I like that you have to pray to various gods to get new powers. You just never know what a small little change here and there can do to make an old genre like this, feel new and refreshing.

I like the game, but I don't know if I love it. It's worth the money, if you are looking for something a little different (not unique like TWEWY), and on the easy side. If you are new to JRPG's, look this one up. It's a great game to try out the genre with...
