Zidane's Poll of the Week #226

Postby Zidane » 22 Mar 2010 06:23

It may be a stronger version, but I feel like it is still only a carbon copy of the Wiimote. Hell, even the free game with the controller is basically Wii-Sports. Does Sony really think it's base wants this?

On the other end it seems like Microsoft is still doing it's own thing with Natal. (Still not sure if I want it or not, though.)

I pretty much agree with you and RMC. It looks pretty much the same as the Wiimote and even has a nunchuck, that's what surprised me the most. Ok, it's rounded on the ends but it still seems like their development meetings went something like: 'I know! We'll round the ends of the controller - then it won't look like a Wii remote, right?' 'Oh, we can make it black, too - wait, what? Nintendo already has a black version themselves?! Crap! Oh well...'

Agreed again. Natal (while it doesn't interest me) is still quite a different approach to motion and gameplay in general.

I voted for the smart-aleck "no, it has a little ball on top" option, but I agree with pretty much everything you said, Zidane.

Yes it is pretty much a carbon copy of Nintendo's motion technology. What I wanna know is who is Sony marketing this too? are they marketing to their fans? or are they marketing to the casual gamers? cause Nintendo already did that with their motion it's called wii motion plus and it's in almost everyone's home. so what is the point in Playstation move?

The technology is already there so playstation move is not going to sell it's going to be a complete disaster. the only people that will buy it are the sony hypocrite fanboys they didn't even care for the motion in the first place now they do lol.

If it can offer what the Wii does, in terms of controls, twinned with it's HD graphics - then I'm all for it. That would pretty much round the PS3 off as the perfect console this gen for me. But I agree that while Sony might argue until they're blue in the face about how completely different the tech works - it is still a copycat move on the Wii. So while possibly better; just like trophies over achievements beforehand - Sony can't claim any points for originality from me.

In fact I'd actually feel much happier and pro-Sony if they just admitted they are only doing it because of the Wii. Copying others, but trying to one-up them is only going to lead to better products for us. Trying to belittle each other's influence just seems childish though.

Totally agree on that second thought. I don't like blatant copiers but let's face it - that's the only way we can innovate in the technology world. Take something that someone else did and make it better. But when that second person refuses to acknowledge the first inventor as an influence - that just makes me furious. I would have much more respect for Sony if they just admitted that Move was based on - or at the very least inspired by - what Nintendo did with the Wii. Until they at least do that, I don't really care what they have to say. Sorry.

Its so annoying that Sony bashes Nintendo and the Wiimote, saying real gamers dont want a Wii or motion controls... then turn around and make an exact replica. How pathetic. I mean, innovation is always followed by refinement, and you could argue Sony is just refining Nintendo's innovation, but they couldnt add any uniqueness to it whatsoever? At least Microsoft is doing something unique with motion controls. I feel like its going to fail and Im personally not going to buy Natal, but hey, at least theyre trying to be different.
