Pokémon Saphire/Ruby, anyone played those games?

These little handhelds will not die...and we don't want it to! GBA, GBASP, GBMicro... anything NOT DS-related belongs in here!

Pokémon Saphire/Ruby, anyone played those games?

Postby Bjorna » 07 Mar 2006 04:55

I'm looking at those games, might buy them, but I want to know what yu guys think about it. Is it better than those I allready own, Pokémon Red and Gold. Is it long? Since I need a long game for a vacation in july, so I have a long time figuring out which game I should get.

i liked saphire a ruby. i liked all the new pokemon and i liked the new place it took place in. when i came out it was a revolution for pokemon with some of the stuff it had, but now with emerald and leaf green and all that out its sort of old. Buy yeah it was fun to play so i bet you would get hooked on it like any other pokemon game.

I bought Ruby after having never played a Pokemon game and I thought it was really good fun. A total surprise for me as I didn't think I'd enjoy this type of game.

I'd definitely recommend giving one of them a try.

I own both (Saphire for me and Ruby for my bro). They're both excellent, but I found Silver/Gold much more entertaining...

i played ruby and it was good, but it didn't seem like it had as much problem solving and stuff like that as in the originals. It seemed to be easier too. Wasn't bad though

That's the only set I don't own a game from (I have Yellow, Silver, Leaf Green) But I'd sudjest getting either leaf green or fire red, it's nice playing throught the origional story plus you get to do plenty more once your done with that.

Non-PoKeMoN game wize i'd sudjest Harvest Moon Friends of mineral town, But I'm A big HM fan, and you pretty much have to be a fan of the series to enjoy it.

I have sapphire, but really i didn't get into it very much. I've been hoping for a reinvent of the series for so long and I'm still waiting.

Yeah, I'm an expert on both. Well Ruby and Sapphire might be a little hard to find Ruby or Sapphire, get Emerald, it has much more advanced gameplay. I think its a great game. Also, its better than Gold Silver and Crystal. And the classics, cant really be beaten. The Pokedex is 200 and 134 new Pokemon were added for this generation. If you get the game, feel free to ask me any questions.

Many reviewers will say that Pokemon is boring and repetitive. Well its nothing like that. I own practicly all of the Pokemon games and i can say that Pokemon Ruby is probably one of the best Pokemon games released so far. But if you manage to find a copy of Pokemon Emerald, then buy that one, because its got all 386 pokemon... And other extra's of course ;)

In the larger scheme of things, Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire proved to be rather lackluster sequels to the 2nd generation games (Gold and Silver) which are widely considered to the be the pinnacle of the franchise. Inexplicably reducing the feature set that was provided in the previous titles rather than refining these aspects and exploring them more profusely remains a puzzling decision on Game Freak's behalf. However, that is not to say that the titles on their own are not good games - they are still highly addictive experiences that provided hours of fun. If you are to purchase a game from this generation (although since this is from a month ago, I expect you have already made a choice), I would suggest getting Emerald as its substantial additions make it the most appealing third version yet; notably the Battle Frontier which could exponentially expand your total play time.

These titles will do until Diamond and Pearl are released. Substantial evolutions must be made to the franchise's DS incarnation however, as it certainly beginning to show its age.

Great game, but seemed to be very mediocre when compared to Gold and Silver.

Gold/Silver/Crystal were the best of all of them in my opinion.

As a safety net, maybe go with Fire Red/Leaf Green if you aren't too sure.
