Ocarina of Time 3DS

Whats better then one screen? Well two screens of course! Current-gen portables inside: DS, Lite, DSi, DSXL, 3DS...

This seems to be real and I'm very excited. It's been a while since I played OoT, and I've only got the N64 version. Plus, it looks all nice and crisp!

EDIT: And here's a link to the GoNintendo article: http://www.gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=127080

i'm not that excited about this (braces for impact).
no honestly i feel like this isn't going to be the nostalgic enjoyment of a new Goldeneye. I'd rather them not tamper with Ocarina of Time, even if it is nintendo themselves. but otherwise today has been a joyous occasion. metroid zelda mario star fox animal crossing MGS, etc...
i think i can deal with this.

Egh, the screens are gone already; pulled by Nintendo apparently. Anyone got a mirror site? Their link to a mirror site was also pulled. :/ Oh well, if they weren't changed much I guess it's not that big of a deal anyway.... the Star Fox images looked pretty decent though..

I doubt they are touching anything, probably just updating textures if anything.

It looks nice, but beyond that?

I don't see a need for a third copy of OoT [with probably no new areas, items etc.] i.e. my N64 and VC copies.

I'm looking forward to the non-remakes of the 3DS, personally.

This is a remake. Not a port with only updated graphics and controls.

This means the potential of what Nintendo can do to enhance the original OoT is pretty good. They could just do the usual and add new dungeons, items, music, and enemies and bosses. But they can do new modes like boss rush, bring back Master Quest as a "Second Quest" mode, add a hard mode, or give OoT it's own Cave of Ordeals with Iron Knuckles instead of Darknuts.

I think this is Miyamoto and Aonuma's way of saying goodbye to the archetype they created with OoT (assuming SS really is gonna be the new structure that we've heard), I think I'm simply going to hope for better textures and so forth and some dungeon tweaking (as was mentioned with the Water Temple). I really doubt there'll be much more change than what was done with Super Mario 64 DS, it's really not in Nintendo's style to do much more than that.

I kind of like the legacy of having an 'impossible Water Dungeon', though...at the very least, I hope they'll make it harder or on par with Ocarina of Time Master Quest.

I'm glad to hear that it's a remake instead of a graphically enhanced straight-port. I'm hoping for at LEAST Majora's Mask style of draw-distance and onscreen enemies on the main field. After that, maybe mix it up a little bit, make some of the more 'awkward' areas more interesting, less floating platforms and more 'environments that make sense' in their place if possible, that sort of thing. I realize there might be some nostalgia that gets messed with if they remix it too much, but hey, you've got at least four other ways to obtain an 'original' version(cartridge, GCN disc 1, GCN disc 2, VC) so I wouldn't want to hold them back from a cool idea just to stay faithful to something that's already been faithful for so long.

when the biggest annoyance in a level is an effect of the UI, and they have the opportunity to change it for the better, I say more power to them.

I was pretty disappointed, as I was never a big OOT fan, I really would prefer an original Zelda title but I suppose that is still likely to happen. None the less, this alongside Paper Mario and Starfox remakes, but then taking into consideration that this is the third OOT re-release (it was on GC too) makes it seem a tad lazy.

OoT wasn't rereleased on Cube in a commercial capacity, simply as a bonus. And Paper Mario 3DS is a brand new game. Just correcting that, I do agree though, I hope Nintendo doesn't go all Square Enix on us.

I do want to at least see a stereo-3D moon come crashing down at some point in time later, though.. :) I'm sure the mask transformations would look interesting too. If they changed anything for Majora's Mask though, I'd want a less cardinal-direction design for its map and area placements... that kind of 'go here, go here, go here, you're done' sort of design is what turned me off in MP2, and it bugged me a little in MM as well. But I think that'd be the last thing they'd change really...

Yeah... on one hand I worry about that sort of stuff signaling laziness within a company but I also really really want a portable zelda collection with all the games up till Wind Waker.

It's been a while since somebody's posted here, so here's what makes me curious: What about all those rumors and mysterious elements that surround the original, like the Unicorn Fountain, beating the running man, equipping the medallions, having a formal Light Temple, unfreezing Zora's Domain after beating the Water Temple, etc.? My biggest want is for them to include stuff like that this time around.

That's what I'm looking for. Adding in any real cut content from the original would solidfy OoT 3DS as a must buy even if you own any of the prior versions.

I'm on the fence about this. I played about half of OoT a while ago (before Christmas came and I was inundated with other games that distracted me) and enjoyed it but... I'm not really keen on the idea of buying another version. Plus for a new system, I want some better showpiece games than something that's basically 10 years old.

That said a Zelda game of the calibre of Ocarina on a handheld would be very awesome. And being on a portable I might actually get around to beating it.

I don't know. I've played both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask on the N64, and I'm not sure if a 3d version with better graphics is enough for me to grind my way through the same content again. A lot of the fun of these two Zelda games is the fanfic/fanart communities from the 1990s that expanded on the world and characters, but a lot of the forums these day are just filled with the typical rude posts and bragging about achievements or whatever; not the kind of environment that breeds this sort of discussion. If I can find a decent community that supports the old school fanfic gamer, then maybe I'll come back to Ocarina of Time.
