We can get Super Street Fighter IV on the 3DS, but not the Wii?

We got Tatsunoko vs. Capcom on Wii, so, I don't see why anyone would care for Street Fighter IV anymore, given that there IS a Capcom developed 2D fighter. I'm more than glad to see SSFIV on 3DS. It's Fighting, one rare genre (actually, the ONLY rare genre; even godly awesome DS has only like 4 good Fighting games) in Nintendo's portables. So, having it so soon makes me happy. :D

Huh?

I'd buy Street Fighter IV on the Wii and 3DS, it doesn't matter. My point is that it's silly to not port the game to Wii if you can do it on 3DS.

If Capcom is worried about sales, I can't imagine SFIV selling better on the 3DS than the Wii. Weird.

I'm pretty sure it definitely could sell better on 3DS. Even the previous DS had a lot more quality 3rd party support than the Wii does. More support means a bigger market for those types of games and thus more sales. Inversely, if there's more quality, big-name 3rd party efforts on the system, that's a sign that 3rd party games are selling better than on the Wii where there are relatively much fewer big-name 3rd party games.

And then consider the kind of 3rd party support that is coming right out of the gate with the 3DS. I think we'll be seeing a lot of 3rd party support on 3DS and a significant market that's willing to buy them. Neither seem to exist on Wii.

Definitely! That would seriously tempt me to buy a launch 3DS.

Which is mentally retarded, because it's pretty simple logic that if a game like Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, can sell 300,000 units, when hardly ANYBODY in the west knows any of the Tatsunoko characters, then a game like STREET FIGHTER IV, with a well recognized franchise name right there on the cover, would absolutely sell a million+ units.

I've been saying this for quite awhile now. They can put SFIV on the iPhone, as if anyone would actually WANT to play Street Fighter on such a limited interface, but they won't put it on Wii. The graphics for the game are really no more complex for the Wii hardware to pull of than Tat vs. Capcom is. In fact, TvC looks pretty damn good.

So, as usual, this all boils down to developers being lazy, and using ridiculous, s**ty excuses for not putting their top, AAA franchises on Wii. If there was a Metal Gear Solid, or a Ninja Gaiden, or a Street Fighter, or a real Resident Evil, etc. etc. etc., they would sell. Instead, companies put things like Spyborgs on Wii, and then act mad that they didn't sell a million copies. It's been a similar song and dance since 2007.

However, I will give Capcom a little credit. They DID, at least, put TvC and MH3 on Wii.

But that still doesn't excuse there not being any SFIV on Wii. There hasn't been a port of a REAL Street Fighter game on a Nintendo home console since the SNES. Even though they very easily could have ported something like SF3 or X-men vs. Street Fighter or Marvel vs. Capcom to the N64. Pretty pathetic, Capcom. Pretty pathetic.

I just think the handheld fighting game market is surely smaller than the fighting game market amongst Wii owners.

its just another game to try to get all gamers to buy the 3ds, they're really trying to get the 3ds to be huge.

True enough.

But the Wii is already an astounding success. The fastest selling console in gaming history. Chances are, before it's off the shelves for good, it could have a good shot at breaking the PS2's final install-base.

That says to me, "Hmmmm, if Capcom likes money, and the Street Fighter franchise always sells, then WHY not put Street Fighter IV (or SSIV), on the highest selling console of this generation?" Oh sure, there's the whole, inane argument about "Well core games don't sell on Wii". But we've already seen that is BS. You just have to put a game/franchise that people actually GIVE a crap about, and then actually make it play GOOD. Like CoD. Or Madden. Or Monster Hunter. Or a real Resident Evil game (RE4 on Wii outsold the original.).

TvC is selling well, for an obscure game. I think it could very well sell 500k, half a million, in it's lifetime. However, SFIV on Wii, selling over a million copies, is a no brainer. Why? Because people recognize the brand name. People know what Street Fighter is. People don't know what Tatsunoko is. And not ALL gamers (not even all traditional gamers), read up game news on the internet all the time, if ever.

It's great they're putting a SF game on 3DS. But it would be even better if Capcom would be consistent with their Wii support. The same could be said for most other big 3rd party publishers.

I actually think Capcom is the one third party company that is good at spreading their support among Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony.

I happen to love fighting games though. I'm horrible at them but I love seeing all the character's endings and just the gameplay.

Just like how I love Warcraft RTS games (not wow =P) but I'm very very very very very bad at RTS games so I always had to use cheats.

It's great and all that they're putting a great fighting game on the 3DS, but it wouldn't hurt Capcom to at least think about putting it on Wii. I'm not into fighting games much, but if people like the game so much, I'll consider trying it when I get my 3DS. By the way, it's true that DS gets more 3rd party than Wii.

I'm constantly amazed by the 3DS...after looking at the most recent shots (sure they aren't clear pictures), but the fact that they are getting HD games looking fantastic (not just passable) on this machine has me awestruck. I know, I know, I'm getting into fanboy levels, but the recent shots look so much better than the E3 reveal of the game.

Anyway, does anyone think that if it is easy for Capcom to develop for the 3DS (since they obviously have gotten their engines running with little effort), that it may be possible for all future games using their current engines to see a simultaneous PS3, 360, 3DS release?

If this is so, what is the possibility that Street Fighter X Tekken may be in development for the 3DS as well? Oh my...I'm really getting a headache from the possibilities of this little monster.

I think that he meant was that Capcom's support of all systems is good, not that they support each system with ports of major games, which your lists shows.
