DDR Mario Mix

You know them, and love them. If you want to talk Nintendo consoles/handhelds from the NES to Gamecube days, here is the perfect place. Virtual Boy welcome!

DDR Mario Mix

Postby DomoNano » 17 Oct 2005 02:36

Any of you getting this? though it looks fairly easy compared to the normal DDR games, i still think its gonna give me somewhat of a sweat. Though of course i dont use these games to actually workout, i still play them when im in a lazy mood (when arent i? lolz) and dont feel like heading to the gym.

As for the game, should be fun dancing to some classic nintendo remixes. But from what i heard is that there will be some non nintendo songs in there. Plus i've been a long time DDR fan since, since, well forever!

I never played DDR, but I'd try anything Mario. The game is still low on my list, though.

Never been a big DDR fan, but this one does sound cool. Its supposed to be loaded with classic Nintendo music.

I couldn't quote all of you, but wtf? You guys never played DDR? It's so cool! Especially if you want to pick up chicks. Or if you're really lame, a nice way to scare away chicks……

Hah. You thought the PS2 mats would work on your GameCube? Your GCN would run around screaming "I'm unclean!"

The music numbers are almost all entirely based on songs from previous Mario games, and we saw music credited to Super Mario Bros. 1-3, Dr. Mario, Mario Party 5, and Mario Kart: Double Dash, among other games. Though it's Mario music, it's remixed with fast-paced beats or more relaxed jazzy tunes. This is quite a turn from the traditional DDR musical fare, which generally consists of licensed techno and dance artists, and a whole slew of poppy DDR songs made specifically for the game. However, some things are still distinctly DDR, like the catcalling announcer who shouts accolades and admonishes over the music while you play.

Found that on Gamespots hands-on preview of the game

There would probably third party companies, like Pelican and Mad Catz who might make that ad on that you wanted.

According to Shigeru Miyamoto, they use Mario to introduce gamers into new genres. I normally would play sports or racing games, but Mario games have never steered me wrong.

They could just have a racing game and sports titles and an RPG, but if they put Mario in it, the game seems familiar and people would be more open to playing it even if they don't normally play games like that.

until now, i've not been all that interested in the DDR phenomenon... but of course looking through the mario lens will get my attention ;)

i checked out the video clips (high-res, since i'm a subscriber) over at IGN, and while some of it seems cool, i am a little disappointed with some of the secondary graphics/character modelling. keep in mind i was a computer animation major, so i notice things like this, but where the mario and main character models are superb, the piranha plants and their pipes look worse than if made for n64's lesser hardware.

but maybe the game wasn't finished when those captures were made--i hope. it's comments like mine above that cause me to withhold my own creative work until it's totally finished. :-P

it's not a waste... i don't really dig movie trailers anyway. ign has a heck of a lot more than gametrailers.com for content. i do visit it though now and then should ign not have one, as a second source!

game trailers tend to show some game-play, but lots of polished fluff, where other in-game clips can show more of the game as you would actually experience, complete with any shortcomings.. such as the ones i nitpicked above ;)

It seriously took you Mario, a plumber from Italy/Little Italy to get you interested in DDR? You don't need Mario to have fun with it. It cost a dollar to play, but it is worth it.

the concept has been sort of interesting, i guess. but the music and over-the-top flash of the graphics were a turn off. i dig video game music remixes though, and having those is another plus.. i could definitely find myself wanting to move to that kind of tunage!

I get where you're coming from. The music is either a turn on, or a turn off to certain gamers. This game does look fun.

from what i've gathered it'll be nintendo's music... some of it remixes of previous mario titles, which i dig completely. :)

check out Overclocked Remix for more mario remixes.. i love that site!

Not to bring up an ancient topic but just thought that I'd point out that there already are adapters out there to connect PS2 controllers to the GC, so anyone with DDR mats can use them for Mario DDR. Most i've seen go for around fifteen dollars.

Picked this up today. Lots of fun, if you like DDR. The pad is suprisingly well-made, and seems like it'll last a while. The music is pretty standard DDR techno, just to the tunes of Nintendo music (Super Mario Bros., Dr Mario, Mario Kart DD and so on...) and some other stuff (Mozart, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, etc.)

Now I'm just waiting for the solo pad to come out.

The extra pads can only be bought direct from Nintendo for $20. Not sure why they aren't selling them in stores, but this seems to be Nintendo's new strategy with many things.

it's MUCH, MUCH cheaper to sell a product directly than in retail stores. all the extra steps and middlemen really add a lot of trouble and expense for a company. not that nintendo passes along that savings to its customers, but it certainly makes sense to them as a business to save cash, and boost margins!

back to the topic of DDR Mario... the review on 1up.com's podcast this week wasn't too favourable. i'd personally like to hear the soundtrack that the reviewer thought was so horrible... i dig nintendo music and game remixes, so i'd think it a fine match, but the i DO still have that bone to pick on the quality of the 3d models for everything but the main characters... i'm glad with gamecube they finally made decent models for the characters!
