Anyone else dissapointed by Nintendo's WiFi Gaming Hub?

Postby Branskins » 21 Apr 2007 16:48

The NWFC Gaming Hubs are extremely bare bone! Is this just Nintendo being lazy, or is it because of the DS limitations?

I really hope to see some nice in-depth stuff for Pokemon like Metroid had, but judging from the past couple of WiFi games, I doubt it.

Really, who cares about what city is playing the most? And does the "How You Stack Up" even work?

There are so many flaws on the site and the service in general, that I wonder if Nintendo is even prioritizing online at all. I hope to see some updates once Wii games comes out. The website will have to be changed!

You must be new to the world of Nintendo.

I honestly believe Nintendo cares little about online. They finally put it on the DS and eventually the Wii just to shut some of the fanboys up.

It's another effect of Nintendo doing more to appeal to casual gamers than core gamers. We care more about hard game-related data than what city is getting the most playtime, but the more casual (and I'm not using that in a derogatory way at all) gamers do.

Basically, t27duck laid it out. Nintendo doesn't care very much about online gaming, especially not in the way that Microsoft does. If you want a good online infrastructure, I recommend you buy a 360.

I don't think their online looks that bad. But I don't have another system to compare it to. Plus, it's free. So how much could they add?

But truly, the online is one area people can nail Nintendo on. Improving it would make the system look really appealing, plus it would add longevity to it.

The area of online cannot be ignored, or things could get extremely bad for them.

I was really dissapointed with Pokémond's online... I thought you can like battle random ppl... it seems like you can only battle your friends. I also thought there would be random chat room area... but so far it looks like a no :(

My main concern may be an individual game thing, but I'm disappointed by the lack of customization in many games. Why can't you choose to play 1v1 in Hunters?

What Nintendo needs to do with the DS is get some sort of an online "Chat Room" on both the DS and the Wii that will act as a way to both transfer friend codes and to help with online connectivity. I noticed that Playstation is going that route, which means that Nintendo will have a hard time getting a good online system.

Took the words right out of my mouth...

I thought it was pretty basic at first too, then the above hit me pretty hard. "Free", the fact they even have all this info up is amazing. Sure, some stuff is lacking, but still.

I really like Mario Kart DS online and I still play Mario Strikers online all the time.

Nintendo has taken great steps in the last couple of years and I am sure the future holds some great online games.

I agree the fact that we can enjoy the online component for free is a big plus that isn't exactly brought into the light all the time.

The hub is boring. But I don't really care that much.

As far as online goes, it feels like we'll probably always be behind the xbox in some way. But as long as they don't screw up brawl, I'm pretty much okay with it.

They should really update that site, seriously.
It's pretty swell to live in a world where I play all the videogames without finding some reason to yell about it. Shame many don't visit that world.
