Nintendo Selects

Postby KingBroly » 02 May 2011 23:12

Nintendo Selects is the budget price lineup for Wii games that will be implemented later this month in the United States (and presumably the rest of North America). This thread is dedicated to listing those titles and the further discussion of those titles. It seems however that the # of copies sold for them is not a prerequisite for them being one of these Titles, so maybe some of our favorites or games that had short runs will be re-released.

The price for Wii Player's Choice games will be $19.99

Currently Lineup
- The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess (2006) NA
- Wii Sports (2006)
- Animal Crossing Wild World (2008)
- Mario Super Sluggers (2009) NA
- Mario Super Strikers/Strikers Charged (2007)
- Wario Ware Smooth Moves (2007) EU
- Super Paper Mario (2007)
- Mario Strikers Charged (2007)
- Punch-Out!! (2009)
- Super Mario Galaxy (2007)
- New Play Control Pikmin 2 (2004 - GC)
- Mario Power Tennis (2003 - GC)

hmmm... cool. Kinda wish we would have gotten something like this a while ago, but wuddyagonnadew? Hopefully there's a few more games added to that list if/when they make it official.

Also, I'd gladly buy a new copy of Twilight Princess for that price. i let my brother borrow it a while back and it disappeared from his house after about 2 weeks... Now i refuse to lend stuff out without collateral 8)

I think this is about a year over due, but it is still nice to see happen. Hopefully Mario Strikers Charged is one of them because I rented it a long time ago, but still never bought it. I also want to see Pikmin 2, maybe they will release it for 19.99.

Seems like this is several years overdue, IMO. Then again, the GBA didn't get a player's choice line until it was on its deathbed either, so I suppose this isn't without precedent. Personally, I'd hope for reprints of Donkey Kong Barrel Blast and Pokémon Battle Revolution; I know those are odd choices, but for $20 BB could be worth a look, and having only gotten into Pearl a few months before the release of Black, I'd like to see my Pokémon in 3D without paying the $70 resale price Amazon Marketplace sellers are asking.

Assuming Sluggers is correct, though, that'd be great. I loved the original, but never got around to picking up the sequel, and now it's also $70 on AM. =\

I'm with Mako - Strikers Charged would be a great addition. I've never played it and this would be a good excuse to pick it up. Kind of small on the selection though. Does Wii Sports even cost more than $19.99 to begin with? What about Galaxy 1? Super Paper Mario? Let's go Nintendo!

Metroid Prime 3 for 19.99 is still a rip off. I got the whole trilogy for that same price. Still, I guess they have to get rid of that extra stock somehow. Hopefully after they get rid of extra reserves they will just start putting out the trilogy for 19.99.

Glad to see Super Paper Mario, Punch Out, and Strikers Charged. Need to get all 3. :)

Nice, I've been waiting for them to start up with this! The Player's Choice games have been a staple of Nintendo consoles for quite some time, and I was very worried the tradition wouldn't be revived.

are these just normal wii games with slightly uglier boxarts? also nice going, only nintendo games, good step for getting a better relationship with third parties.

No official word yet on date, pricing or titles.

My guess is May 15th, $20 games, to coincide with the $150 Mario Kart Wii Bundle.

Games will probably be...
- Wii Sports
- Twilight Princess
- Mario Super Sluggers
- Animal Crossing Wild World
- 2 Third Party Titles

Expect 1 new game a month for the rest of the year

I think this should've happened last year at the latest. Nearly 5 years in and they're doing it is a BIT late. That way they could've kept some momentum from the hoilday season.

It'll help their software sales sure, but it was still too late.

Updated it to reflect North American and European differences.

4 titles for each region as of now, 6 titles overall.

Personally, I'll get Super Sluggers. I want Smooth Moves.

Metroid Prime 3 for $20 is a great price.

You got the Trilogy for an absolute steal. It retailed for $50, and now costs upwards of $60 for a used copy! New copies were $90 via amazon marketplace last I checked.

I kinda wish Warioware: Smooth Moves was coming to NA. I was interested in it way back in early '07, but decided to wait until the price went down. It never did, and the game disappeared from shelves. I could probably track down a used copy if I really tried, but having a new copy for $20 would be great. I remember playing it at a friend's house and thinking it was a great showcase for what could be done with the Wii controller. Little did I suspect at the time that it'd become one of the ONLY showcase titles for the Wii controller. :(

:? Like several of you, I'm miffed at the lack of selection there is.
It all comes down to personal preference of the individual buyer and getting the most sales out of the old titles for Nintendo, but there's not much there that entices me.

Maybe they'll add more titles soon...

Wow, I guess I should have bought a few more copies from Walmart when they were on sale for 19.99 back then. :/

As for the initial selection. I'm not really too happy, but I'm sure they will add more as time goes on. The games will probably sell better if they release a few at a time, as opposed to 10+ at once.

No, my Walmart had the game at $20 as well. Even if it didn't there is always price matching. But yeah, Best Buy were the ones to start that deal...
