Cheating

Postby Playa » 16 Jun 2007 23:33

Who wants to debate
Using Cheats vs. not cheating :?:

This can mean Action Replay or Button Codes

Sure, I'll admit I've lost intrest in a game because of cheats,
however things that are ridicously hard (Golden Axe in AC:WW)
or nintendo won't release (like Mew in Pokemon Emerald),
I see okay. :D
Plus, the programers put in button codes for players to use!

i don't cheat in games really . once i have finish a game it is fun to mess around with cheats but any one that uses them to get through a game faster is not a gamer.
action replays are fun with smash bros. heheheh

I use button codes.

Remember it's B,O,Y,O,B,O,Y,Y like boy 'o boy with an extra 'y'! That's how you get hyper speed.

That is actually really fun. Especially the bonus stage.

If you haven't already guessed, I use an action replay, not to help me beat the game, but to get the extras that aren't available.

i'v always been against cheating.

well, for as long as i was aware enough to think about it.

My personal view is similar to that of super upper class dining(eating):
Its considered rude, to change the way a chef prepares/presents food, or to ask for changes in spice, or add condements, things like that.

Well, i think the same applys to games.
I think cheaters are spoild and inconsiderate. I see them as not liking the game for what it is to the point that they HAVE, or want to change it.
i just think its a little spoiled of people to want to use cheats, or a little weak-willed.
(BTW, i see mods and cheats in 2 diferent ways)
when i used cheats i felt like i was flirting with other girls, while in serious relationship with some one else.

My most famous analogy, and im sorry if its a little inapropreate or needs to be sensored, for cheats is:

"Using (too many) cheats in a game is like waring to much, or too many, "protection(s)" duting sex."

sure, it helps prevent you from getting any sort of side effects, but it takes so much away from the sensation and shows such a consent of distrust for someone who should be a loved one, that you cant enjoy anything. There is no passion, no sensation, no connetion, and a whole lot of mess and disconfert afterwards.

i think cheats just rob you from the core experiance you could realy be enjoying.

if the cheats are in game, i.e. games like rogue squadren then I'll use em, but I've had bad experiences with AR and gameshark bricking my system...I had to get a new n64 for 5 dollars, oh noes!

its a disc that you get that lets you kind of hack into the game. For example in zelda you can run super fasat and jump really high, or in pokemon it allows you to have every single pokemon to the highest lvl...things like that that the game wasnt designed for origninally

I use both but usually only if I've beaten the game and done everything the right way.

Its always nice to see what the devs left in just for fun :)

I only use a cheating device or button combination for things like what you mentioned. (Nintendo is really strict on those legendary pokemon aren't they?..) :P

Well, I've officially retired of the GameSharking.

I, as some of you guys here, used it to get the near-impossible legendaries like Mew. But to have them knowing that I just sort of generated them, has no point, really.

So, since Ruby/Sapphire all my pokémon are legal. You CAN get them if you really want to (the good way). I got a pair of Mews (after so many years, lol) by just making a small line.

Now with Wi-Fi it's easier than ever. Heck, I'll trade you some legit legends if you quit this AR!

Heh, I'm serious!

Bottom line, it takes away from the experience. Those are my comments.

I have used a gameshark. When I was little, I had a Gameboy color, pokemon red and a lot of time. I beat red, got every pokemon, and raised them all to 80+. I considered that to be 100% completion. Then I tried to squeeze it to 120%. I used a gameshark and I made a lot of cool stuff happen, but it eventually screwed up my game.

BTW: Would Missingno be a button cheat? (I actually didn't know about missingno until a few years ago)

i dont use any cheat devices.
i cheat in some games with console-codes or button-codes. only in singleplayer, though.
especially on emulators, when i want to play a specific level, and dont want to beat the whole game first.

for me it depends on the game. also, after i've beaten a game i have no problem checking out a faq on it. i also don't mind the replay cheats as long as there not used during online play. that crap driver me nuts. i find it to be extremly cheap.

Yeah, I cheat. In games and on my girlfriend too.

Some games just get too boring. Plus if you don't have much time left on the rental, and just want to finish the game, it's great

When I rent a game, I try to get as far as I can. If I don't have a lot of time left to keep playing, and i'm not gonna run out and buy the game, then I'm gonna find some cheat to let me get some more fun out of it.

I do try the regular way. sometimes I just want to play at full power, and run around in god mode. But I really don't use Gameshark or anything like that. Too complicated.

Now that is cheating.
Wait, Raiden what in MGS4?

I use AR and GS to get stuff regularly unaccessible (legendarys in PKMN) but I don't really use button codes. except in Half-Life (up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A = health Y, B, A, X, White, Y, X, A, B White = Ammo... not Like i would know this by heart or anything......)

Depends. Some stuff is fun, like Moon Gravity on the Tony Hawk games.

I'm against AR, but I use button codes sometimes (not a lot of games I own have any cheats, anyway). Depends what they do, I guess. Like one of my games for the N64. It has a 'master cheat', that unlocks all the characters in multiplayer and stage selection in story mode, as well as little extras. Basically, my memory card commonly gets corrupted, and I can never save the data; so I use this code.

I do occasionally use cheat devices such as Action Replay. But one rule to follow, especially in online games, is to NEVER trade or use hacked Pokemon.

It creates an unfair advantage for players that use it, and it pollutes the online system.

It's still fun to fool around with every once and a while. Except when it deleted my save data in Custom Robo which I had about 90% completed.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!! Even when I bought it the guy at Game Stop the cashier warned me about it but I bought it anyway.

I don't really cheat, but if I'm bored I'll try out button input codes if the game has any. I will not use a cheating device because its hacking into the games code basically and I feel that's not right. If its not programmed into the game on purpose its just wrong.

To me, if I use a cheating device to beat a game, it derives away from the pride I get from putting in the time and effort to beat the game. What fun is a game if everything dies with one blow, and you already know that no matter what comes your way, you can defeat it because you're immortal.

To me, it just takes away from a lot of the gratification and a lot of the fun as well.

nope Missingno was a glitch, so technically it would be you just exploited the game (like wavedashing)

and I don't cheat to finish a game, it just takes the fun out if it. But somethings I just have to cheat, like Wind Waker *groans* oh the sailing. I got sick of having to sail around and just got a players guide. But there are a few other things like the golden skultulas in OoT.
