I've been looking for this game, too. I asked some people at our local used game store, and they said it's just flying off the shelves whenever they get more copies in, even at 40-50 bucks. He told me it's a really good game, and I've heard it's much better than the original. Personally, I want to pick it up more than the first one because there's no time limit for completing the games and I want to try the multiplayer! I'd suggest going for it!
Wii U is so awesome, even the ambulances are saying it.

I've actually taken it back twice, but that's mostly because I would get other games in the meantime and become bored again. Otherwise it was a very good game, and I felt like switching between two groups was nice.

I've never played the first game, but I did recently watch SlimKirby do a playthrough of it. I was surprised to learn that 'caves' were unique to P2, and I kind of like P2 better for it. Also, P2 is filled with actual real-life merchandise "treasures" like Duracell batteries and some antiques, so I always found that interesting. The first game sort of implied that you were an inch-tall man on earth, but P2 really brings earth-like environs and items into it(like large manhole covers and etc).

I think $40 is a little steep of course, but apparently it's a bit rare and it's held its value for a while. You're probably not going to get a better price otherwise though, and it's definitely a good game.

I really loved the first game, but have yet to play the second. I wish Nintendo would just release Pikmin 2: New Play Control for North America already... Is it worth the money? I would say yes, seeing as how the second one is better than the first. I would get it for Gamecube, but I feel the controls are improved with New Play Control.

I got a copy at Gamestop for about $40 about a year ago after I finally gave up on the new play control version coming out. It didn't come with the case or book, but I got lucky and a friend had lost the game and still had the case and book which I bought off them for $5. I would say it is definately worth it. I loved the first one, but I thought the second one was way better. The main game was a lot better, plus It also has multiplayer which is pretty fun. I loved the fact that they put real world objects in it, especially the Nintendo items. The analysis and descriptions of the items, and the cooking notes for the enemies are pretty funny as well. I would probably get it as soon as possible before the price goes up even more.

I actually got lucky and found a decent used copy at Blockbuster for $17 just as I was about to give in and pay the Gamestop price.
And yes, it is a very solid game. I actually played about halfway through and my interest took me elsewhere. A few months later I started the game over and got thoroughly sucked into it.
My main problem with the game the first time around was the caves are randomly generated. Somehow it bothered me that the level design was not specifically created for optimum enjoyment (haha or something like that). But then I realized in the second playthrough that there is still plenty of well designed overworld to play through, and the caves just sort of feel like a bonus (plus, they are pretty much created to involve the basic elements Nintendo wanted, but some of the character/item placement is different...Once I realized that the caves are distinguishable from each other, I enjoyed the game more).

In my opinion, Pikmin 2 is vastly superior to the first game, but I don't think I'd want to pay $40 for it. Keep searching for cheaper prices, that is, unless, you neeeeeed to have it.

It might be flea market exagerration, but a while ago someone was selling it used for $100. They've dropped it down to $75 recently, but still...find it where you can. And make sure you can test it out before you plop down the cash. Godforbid the thing doesn't work and you're SoL when you try to return it.
