3DS Streetpass Notifications

Postby pikminpower » 05 Aug 2011 14:09

In the notifications app on the 3DS it says that there are two types of notifications: Spotpass and Streetpass. I myself have only received Spotpass notifications. Has anyone received Streetpass notifications?

Streetpass notifications are from other 3DS units from other users that you might pass on the "street". Spotpass notifications are the ones sent directly from Nintendo. If you haven't been in range of someone else with a 3DS set to share Miis via Streetpass, then you probably haven't received any notifications.

I've had my system since launch and almost always have it in my pocket when I leave the house. I have still only gotten one StreetPass encounter and it was almost two months ago when I was buying Zelda OoT 3D at GameStop.

I've gotten 20 street-pass notifications, only because I went to Disney World about a month ago and racked up a lot there. I'm not complaining though!

I thought about taking mine to the mall, but I just can't think of a good way to carry it. The best way would be in my coat pocket, but there's no way I'm wearing a coat in August just so I can sneak my 3DS in and HOPE that there are people with 3DS walking the mall in the morning while they wait for stores to open. But I doubt that anyway. Seriously though, it's not like my jeans pockets are big enough, and even my biggest shirts don't have a shirt pocket that would fit it without it falling out. I'm sure all of my StreetPass features will be empty really..

I have yet to get a single street pass notification. I think the feature was primarily designed for Japan where people are all in close proximity to each other. It doesn't really work to well here in the US unless you live in a big city or meet up with other people with a 3DS... I guess I could bring the system around with me all the time when I go to school and other places, but I don't want to carry it around somewhere when I'm not going to be using it... (except for street pass)

Almost every mall that I know has a GameStop in it. You might get lucky, like I did, and the workers there usually have a 3DS. Only reason why I know is because their welcome message was 'Welcome to GS!'; which stands for GameStop obviously..

I always take mine with me when I go places, and I have only managed to get 3 street passes and I have had it since launch. I also just realized a couple weeks ago that all 3 of them were from store displays.
I take mine every time I go to the mall, I just put it in my pants pocket. Still the only ones I have got are from the store displays though.

I work at a GameStop, and one of my friends there bought a 3DS, so we went nuts with StreetPass. We headed out to the mall together and encountered about 4 people with it, and then I took a trip to Seattle and encountered a few more. There was even a guy who kept passing my house, and somehow I kept StreetPassing with him despite the proximity of where he was walking by and my room. Going to Nintendo World in a few days, so that should be fantastic! I've managed to get all the puzzle pieces and get all the hats in Find Mii, and I'm looking forward to the StreetPass update!

I was one of the people who really loved Personal Trainer Walking (because I found tracking my steps really interesting), so having the built in pedometer is really cool. I just wish the graph was a bit more dynamic and let you see the precise value of the steps you've made per hour. Regardless, the Play Coins and StreetPass opportunities are great!

yeah, the pedometer was an excellent idea b/c it's a good consolation for the 99% of the time you're carrying around the 3DS but don't get any streetpasses. it'll be interesting to see if i have any more success carrying it around on the weekends instead of just to/from work.

Probably, I wouldn't doubt it, but it's still awkward to carry it in when the thing's bigger than my pockets really(and more expensive). And our Gamestops usually just have one person working, so it'd be like one hit, and that'd be it. I'd have to go to the mall every day to make use of it.. :/

It's definitely hard to use when you live in a rural area, anyway...the feature is supposed to be passive, when you're just walking around and the system is sleeping because you're not doing anything, but for me it becomes a direct action to deliberately do things I otherwise wouldn't, preventing me from doing other things I want to do, just for the chance of getting one or two hits. *shrug*

Yes, I'd be curious to know range required and how long it takes. Early commercials seemed to indicate just a quick walk past. But I'm wondering about driving by someone too.

I haven't received any hits in the week I've owned mine and I've taken it to the state fair twice, where I probably walked within 50 feet of thousands of people. I take it to work every day and I commute past hundreds of cars. And I work in our state capitol building where tours go on all day, especially with kids, so was hoping to get a hit there. When school starts back up there will be more tours. But I was really surprised I didn't get a hit from the state fair. I'll be going back on Saturday, so maybe I'll get lucky.

Did you activate it? You need to start up the mii plaza application, I didn't realize this until a week or 2 after I got my 3DS and my friend and I kept trying but failing..heh.

i've gotten a couple this week, so i'm not doing too badly. is there any difference if you pass the same person in terms of the two streetpass games (puzzle and find mii)? haven't had that happen yet but was just wondering. also, please put something more interesting in your greeting than "hello". that's so boring! you could at least post a message via 3dstxt.com (it's a great idea if you don't already know about it).

Yeah, I activated it the first day. I double-checked again yesterday, and again just now. :-)

Thanks for the 3dstxt.com info, I hadn't heard of that. I entered one from there. I wasn't sure what to put in the greeting line, there's just not much room.

Before I had to send my 3DS off to repairs, I had around 13 Miis in my Streetpass Plaza. 3 of them were from friends who I regularly hang out with. Some where from being on campus. The rest where random places like Walmart and a mall.

Now that the price drop has taken effect and I moved back to campus 2 days ago, I am hoping when I get my 3DS back I will get more. I still only had 2 puzzles completed and could not find a third piece.

I've got 4 miis in my plaza with 2 being from friends...it's working well with school being back in session where I live. I'm hoping the price drop has a big effect!! I know a lot of people who are really interested in it after I told them about the price drop, or just showed them the system. People are just shocked by the 3D and the smiles on their faces really makes me happy because I know that's what Nintendo goes for!

Ok, here's my super-secret tip for getting Street Passes...

Go to the opening night (or possibly opening weekend) of any big movie release and take your 3DS. If you're seeing a movie gamers are likely to see, like any comic book movie or Harry Potter, your chances of getting a Street Pass are pretty good.

I usually get Street Passes this way. I got 1 at X-Men: 1st class and another at Captain America. I've got them at other movies too, I just can remember the others.
