The Grinder to be Published by Warner Bros?

Postby DrDeath3191 » 23 Aug 2011 18:17

Remember the Grinder? It's still looking for a publisher as of now. But according to the Wikipedia page, The Grinder is set to be published by Warner Bros. Interactive. While this is hardly a reliable source, the publisher in question seems an odd choice for a hoax given High Voltage's history with SEGA. I actually contacted GoNintendo directly with this information, but they wanted to check with HVS first. However, there's been no news story on it. I don't know whether that means a flat denial by the guys at HVS, a generic 'no comment', or is HVS has not responded to contact. As such, I've decided to post the thing here (since it isn't doing any good in the C2 thread where I initially posted it) for you good people to discuss.

As far as we know, the Grinder is still set to release Halloween of this year (but I seriously doubt it's going to hit that mark. I still pray it's in development) for all systems.

what exactly is the source?

if rmc has heard anything concrete back, it may have included embargoed or trade secret information that we'd be fools to post just to get a few hits.

either way, i would expect this for wii u at this point more than wii; if it'll ever even see a nintendo platform. last i saw it behind closed doors was only on the 360, and didn't sound favorable for nintendo.

None was listed, which is why I was waiting for someone at GN to verify with HVS. Really this is a rumor at best, but I remain hopeful.

I don't think bringing it to the Wii U would be a smart idea. Their original plan for the Wii version (the FPS, not the Hunter the Reckoning-like) was to use motion controls for melee weapons as well as shooting to kill supernatural creatures. There's no real benefit gameplay wise to moving it up (unless you count graphics, in which case I have words for you that would make the censors cry). Then there's the additional cost associated HD development, and the fact that the Wii U is starting with basically no install base. As for Grinder's existence, HVS still claims it's in development for all systems, but lacks publisher backing. I hope they find one that treats their property better than SEGA.

It may be a little late by this time, but I just checked that wiki article, the "leak" was made by an anonymus user, and these are some the edits he made that day on july 22nd

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Co ... 46.161.249

You will notice that he put two different publishers before he decided to put warner bros.

It seems this was just a hoax

Well, that dashes my hopes a bit.

Last time they talked about it, they did claim that the FPS version was still being made for Wii. But then again, Sega also did leave Conduit 2 out in the cold to die with practically no hype or advertising. So who knows? If they ARE still working on it, and they can find a different publisher, and can put together a more polished final product, then I think it could still work out.

After all, people seem to forget that WiiU likely won't be coming until NEXT fall, over a year from now. Wii needs games till then.

Does this game still exist?

I remember it being FPS on Wii while on PS3/360 it was going to be a top-down shooter like Dead Nation.

Why did they change it to a top-down shooter? It looked awesome the way it was.

because the assets for wii were good enough for the 2 HD consoles from a distance (top down); and wouldn't have cut it as an FPS on those same two consoles. that's what one of their dev team guys told me at gdc like 2 years ago when i saw it behind closed doors at hvs' booth.
