Anyone still getting DS games these days?

Whats better then one screen? Well two screens of course! Current-gen portables inside: DS, Lite, DSi, DSXL, 3DS...

Anyone still getting DS games these days?

Postby mbh911 » 21 Sep 2011 20:58

Since the release of the 3DS, I have been wondering if people here have been buying more or less DS games

The past few weeks I have found myself buying more DS games recently because the DS has been getting great new games lately, Kirby Mass Attack, Ghost Trip, I pre-ordered Aliens Infestation (Love Wayforward) and I am thinking about getting that Solatorobo: Red the Hunter and among others, etc

After buying Kirby Mass Attack, it's amazing! I wonder if the last few years/DS games will be some of the best DS games the DS has to offer in its long run? Other nintendo systems/handhelds had the same thing before in the past.

So how about 3DS or DS owners here? Have you been buying more or less DS games lately?

About the same as always. I picked up Ghost Trick a while back and Retro Game Challenge about a month ago. I have definitely been buying more 3DS games than DS games though.

Professor Layton and the Last Specter will most likely be one of my last DS games. I may pick up Kirby Mass Attack, Solatorobo, Radiant Historia, Sonic Colors(On sale on Amazon right now!), Kingdom Hearts: Coded, DQ Joker 2, Time Hollow, and a few other titles I missed though.

The only DS game I bought since the 3DS came out was Pokemon White. I have bought 3 3DS games in that same time frame and that number will be much higher by the end of this year. It can't really be helped as the focus has moved onto the 3DS now...

I am, though that's mostly because I only got a DS last year. Yes, I know I'm behind the times, but on the upside, I can pick things up for far cheaper when I wait until towards the end of a console's life cycle.

I got Pokemon Black a few weeks ago. And I plan on getting Devil Survivor 2 when that comes out next year. I don't know if that will be the next/last game I get for the DS, though. I've most certainly been buying less DS games, but that should be expected of a system coming to the end of its life cycle.

I'm still meaning to buy Okami-den, but that will probably be the last game I buy for the system.

This year, I've bought Starfy, Retro Game Challenge, Rhythm Heaven, Elite Beat Agents, Pokemon Black, Golden Sun: Dark Dawn and I imported Last Window recently.

Definitely plan to get Kirby Mass Attack and I think there are still a few DS games I've been wanting to get. So yeah, I'll probably still be getting them.

But I mostly get them all used or mad cheap.

Wow seems like a handful of people are still buying DS games which is great since there is a TON of great DS games that need to be played since it seems like more and more interesting DS games are coming out this late in the DS lifespan.

I have also realized that I have more DS games on my wishlist than 3DS games, I dunno if that's a good thing or bad thing but either way I am looking forward to see what Devs can do when the DS lifespan is getting near to the end.

Will Nintendo release more and more nintendo related games in the future? (Mario, Kirby, Donkey, etc) I would LOVE to see Nintendo release a few more DS games before the lifespan ends, go out with a bang!

back to Kirby Mass Attack!

I am still playing my DSi more than my 3DS at the moment. Currently replaying The World Ends With You and Dragon Quest VI. I am in Australia and Kirby Mass Attack and Dragon Quest Monster Joker 2 are not due here for a month but I have pre-ordered both games. We did not have Solatorobo Red the Hunter released here but it released in the UK about a month ago and i bought it from there. It is an amazing game that once again shows off the true value and unique gaming experience that the DS still has to offer.

Also looking forward to Alien Infestation and Layton Spectre but we do not have a release date for these here yet.

Well, I have a 3DS and recently got Spirit Tracks (old, I know) and I'm planning on buying Solatorob and Layton 4 when they come out. I must get Okamiden and some day, too. I think those will be my last DS games, unless Level 5 somehow decides to release Ni no Kuni here.

You know you can play DS games on the 3DS? The whole thing about the screen is not that bad. Also some games that I've played like DQ9, Mario Kart Super Mario 64 feel better with the circle-pad. Just thought I would let you know just in case.

I haven't gotten any in a long while, but there are a number of DS titles I've been wanting to pick up: Castlevania Portrait of Ruin & Order of Ecclesia, Solatorobo, Kirby Mass Attack, Final Fantasy 4 Heroes of Light, and Okamiden. When I can find a bargain on any of those(obviously I'll have to wait a while for some of them) I intend on buying them.

Yeah I know but I love my DSi (not love love) and find that the battery life, etc far outweighs the convenience of the circle pad. I kind of prefer the D pad anyway.

The 3DS has revitalized my DS game playing / purchasing since there's not a lot to buy in terms of good 3DS games. I've been on a Dragon Quest binge, playing IX again, picked up IV and started that, and pre-ordered DQM:J2 from Amazon, which will finally arrive on Friday.

I agree you get used to the contrast thing in time and the circle pad is SO COMFY.

Still looking forward to picking up Dragon Quest 6, Kirby Mass Attack, probably Okamiden, and I'll eventually go buy Mario Kart DS (Yeah, just never got around to buying it...).

i recently bought The World Ends With You, Kirby Mass Attack, Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2, and Solatorobo. While it's true that you can play DS games on the 3DS just fine, i generally don't anymore. I really tried, since it's more convenient to carry only one handheld around. But it's almost shocking to see how much better games look and play on the DSiXL. DSi looks better as well, but the difference when playing DS games on the DSiXL is dramatic.

my fiance has a DSi XL, and i've tried it, but everything i've played on it just looks stretched out and really pixelated. Are there any examples of games that look especially good on it?

The large benefit of the XL is being able to have it further away from your face while you play.

Meaning...
- You can play at a more relaxed position
- Less strain on your eyes while you play
- Come to realization that the XL is the best DS ever made

I'd say DSiWare games look great on it. 2D games look better too.

I thought I would find myself playing my DS lite more often but Since i regret trading my DSi to gamestop, I have to stick with the 3ds for now, kirby mass attack looks good on the 3ds, but i kind of wish i could play the game on my recent traded dsi

I need to play world ends with you again and pick up some imports!

oo good point about being able to play further from your face. I should try that. I have a lot of eye strain issues from staring at a computer screen for 8 hours at work, then coming home, using the computer, and then playing games. anyway thanks!

Well, I'm getting Last Specter for sure, might get Mass Attack, and if I ever finish Hotel Dusk and enjoy it Last Window's a possibility.

Beyond that? Probably not unless something awesome is announced.
