ICO/SOTC Collection

Postby thresholdXCI » 29 Jun 2010 12:11

This rumour popped up awhile ago reported in an IGN Daily Fix, and shortly after E3 IGN reported that "Shuhei Yoshida, president of SCE's Worldwide Studios, confirmed the company will release more Blu-ray collections of PS2 games in the future". Yesterday this story popped up, apparently Amazon.fr added a listing for a Team ICO Collection on the PS3.

Since we've already had a God of War HD collection, and a similar Sly Cooper collection was announced at E3 it doesn't look too unlikely to me. As someone who missed ICO and Shadow of the Colossus on the PS2 a collection like this would be great news. Especially seeing how hard the games are to find cheaply these days (not to mention the lack of PS3 backward compatibility and the fact they are likely to come supporting HD and trophies). I'd definitely like to get chance to play them before Last Guardian comes out. Plus that'd be two games off my gaming bucket list.

So is anyone else interested? Or have you all already got them on the PS2?

Sounds good, and I hear there's also a Sly Cooper Collection coming out.

However, I'd hate for this HD remake thing to become a fad.

Yeah they announced a Sly collection in their E3 conference. I couldn't be less interested in that one though tbh.

I think it will become something of a fad though. Especially if they all sell fairly well. Personally I'd rather they got round the lack of PS3 backwards compatibility by just putting the games on the PSN instead of doing lots of collections. But this is one exception for me.

Sly Collection may be 3 games, but at $60, it's a VERY TOUGH sell. Especially since God of War was a bigger name, and at a cheaper price.

Are we gonna get HD remakes of games from other companies, or just games Sony owns?
Because I really want Devil May Cry, Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid Collections.

Ooh, $60 for the Sly Collection?

I really hope this Remake trend doesn't turn into a swift kick to the balls to anyone without backwards compatability.

Confirmed by Famitsu: Article.

Personally couldn't be happier, seeing as I never got round to picking them up for the PS2. I would prefer to have them packaged together on one disc like the GoW collection rather than have them released separately though, but whatever.

*edit*

Confirmed to be all on one disc, HD visuals, widescreen, improved framerate, trophies and (for the 3 people in the world that care) 3D graphics. Release sometime in spring for US/ EU. Source.

Re: ICO/SOTC Collection - Spring 2011

Postby cortjezter » 17 Sep 2010 11:49

i'm still waiting on some of the details, but i am very excited.

spring 2011 is not "coming soon" though.

i'm fine if they want to support this gimmicky 3d tv tech, but they better properly support regular hd tvs just the same. i've read that ps3 will support 3d stuff, but not at full resolution for games. i don't want to put up with 720p, or 30fps just because 8 ps3 owners will get to see it in 3d. when it comes to the ps3, that should mean 1080p.. and the P in progressive means 60fps.

and that box art best be fucking holy-beautiful.

I'm pretty sure that the 3D is optional. Meaning I'm betting there will be a way to turn it on and off.

So you aren't automatically suffering.

yeah, that's a given.

i'm just saying that if they make the performance baseline with the lowest common denominator (3d tvs), it will be a lesser experience for those of us with 1080p hdtvs. they already announced that ps3 games in 3d will only be 720p. i just dont' want the 3d to hamper my non-3d.

I am so excited for this release. I have already purchased Shadow of the Colossus for the PS2 but have never played ICO, so I am definitely purchasing the re-release and will revel in the HD goodness. I hope that it looks like a native PS3 game rather than a muddy-looking port with some shiny lighting and better foliage

I've played Shadow of the Colossus before, so I jumped right into that one and beat the first Colossus. I came back to it to get some Fruit and Lizards. Um...finding all of them is going to suck. Now it might be me or the fact that the game isn't running at 5 fps, but your climb meter seems to drain A LOT faster in this version than on the PS2 one.

Then there's Ico...I really don't know about this one. It's a puzzle game at heart with clunky mechanics. I stopped at my first "couch." I'll beat it, but it doesn't really drive me to come back to it.

I got the collection yesterday and just finished Ico. I thought it was pretty good! Who'd'a thought an 8 hour escort mission could be so entertaining! :P The game is kind of showing its age, even with the updated graphics. However, I can imagine how great this game must have been a decade ago. The story an the atmosphere still feels very unique. It feels a bit like playing a Miyazaki film. Anyway, this just makes me more excited for playing SotC!

Maybe I'm wrong in saying this, but I think the smoother framerate of Shadow of the Colossus breaks the game. The grip gauge drains too fast now.

Oh, and with the changes in it (that are from the European PS2 version) the game is a lot harder.

changes in ico? or sotc?

i never got to play the originals (though i own them; tracked down and bought copies when i had an original, back-com 60gb ps3, but 4 of those shovel out on me), so i don't have anything to compare. what exactly is different? i haven't noticed the grip gauge draining too quickly exactly; sotc is about exactly as hard as i care games to be (which isn't much).

Shadow of the Colossus. In the European version the Colossi bucked a hell of a lot more than in the US/JP versions. 3 in particular.

I played the US PS2 version on my PS2 and PS3. It was barely playable on PS3 through hardware emulation. It was unplayable on PS2.
