New or old PS3?

Postby PokeMaster39z » 02 Nov 2011 18:29

I am getting a PS3 soon and would like to know what you guys think is better, the old one (backwards-compatible) or the new one? I do have a PS2, but it's in bad condition. What do you guys reccomend?

Well, I had a backwards compatible PS3 for about a month until I finally got fed up with a unique crashing problem it had. I now have a newer, 300 GB model and it works pretty slick. I cannot really comment on the usefulness of the backwards compatibility because I never tried it out, but I heard it does not work for all games or, at least, work very well. You might want to consider buying a new PS3 if the price is similar to the used one and just get another used PS2. Maybe check to see if the games you are interested in playing work with the backwards compatible PS3 you are looking at to help you decide.

all i can say is that i went through FOUR of the 60 gig, back-com models, and that was over 4 years ago. i would estimate those systems are going to be much more prone to breakdown now than ever. i'd get a newer one (in warranty) and make the most of what time you have left with your ps2

Thanks, I'll probably end up doing what cort suggested. Looking at it now it would probably be cheaper to get a new PS3 and refurbished PS2 anyways

Yeah, I would recommend buying a new system so that you get the warranty. If you buy used you might run into some problems and have to pay for them yourself. Once I got a PS3 I barely played my PS2 anymore, but I guess it is still worth keeping around.

I'd go for The new one, for the warranty and I'm pretty sure the new models are more reliable anyway. Down the line if you need a replacement PS2 you can find them really easily on the internet, usually for peanuts.
