What is Nintendo thinking?

Postby L Thammy » 07 Dec 2011 21:52

Maybe it's just me, but I think there's been a few things happening lately that people might want to discuss.

- After strong fan campaigning, Nintendo of America observes Xenoblade's European sales and changes its mind about not releasing it in North America.
- After dissatisfaction over the quality of the 3DS' eShop, more convenience features are added.
- After Americans find themselves limited in their ability to get StreetPass tags, the 3DS' built-in Mii Plaza is updated to allow SpotPass to provide similar function.
- After years of being scoffed for their poor online policies, Mario Kart 7 features heavy use of online features.

These all seem to be related to concerns I've read from both fans and detractors. Is it possible that Nintendo plans to start reacting to gamer's opinions of them? Are they serious about strengthening their online presence? Are they trying to butter fans up for the Wii U?

I think they're just trying to show that they do care about what the fans want and that the claims they've made about the Wii U's online service are true.

I personally think there was a wake up call to NoA, "become at least as good as NoE or you're all fired". Coupled with an apparent effort to catch up with the times, I think they are using the wii->wiiu period as a chance to change.
