I just upgraded to an 8GB card. Just copied everything from the 2GB onto my computer and then copied them to the 8GB. Everything is there including all saves. I see all my DOA download costumes. GBA save data. Worked purfectly. going to download Nintendo Video Now.

Cool Serpent-Seed! I did my "upgrade" today too! I bought an 8g card today!

I put my original card in the computer, clicked "open to see files", then opened "my documents" on the computer and made a folder for 3ds. I copied the SD card into that folder, then put the new card in and copied it to the new SD!

I -think- it worked perfect....still nervous though. Keeping the original also for now :P Thanks everyone for all the help!

I'm also keeping the original for now. I got over 50,000 blocks now. It was pretty easy. I do feel the 8GB slowed everything down for while though. I kinda feel I should have used the 4GB my XL is using and kept the 8GB for the next iteration of 3DS. Well I can always get another 8GB or two.

3DS transfer

Postby pokemaster515 » 30 Jan 2012 13:03

Greetings fellow comrades,
My brother has been waiting for the release of Sakura Samurai and was wanting to download to his 3DS. I've been downloading a lot of games on mine so he wants to have the game on his system so he doesn't have use mine to play it. I was wondering if I buy the game on my 3DS, since I already have money left over, if I'll be able to transfer just that game to his 3DS or will he just have to buy a $20 card for himself. Does anyone know if there is a way to send him the game or has anyone used the System Transfer in the settings? Does the System Transfer transfer anything you like, like DSi to 3DS, or will you have to move over everything?

you have to xfer everything, and then none of your stuff would be on your 3ds. as far as I know, there is no way to gift purchase an eshop title at the moment. which is a shame.

SD Cards

Postby Broken_Cartridge » 27 Feb 2012 15:04

So, I'm thinking about getting a new SD card for my 3DS since I've been purchasing pretty much every downloadable title that has come out. My only concern is, if I get a new SD card is there anyway to transfer all of my content from the old SD card onto the new one? If not via the 3DS would I be able to do it by using a computer, or do I have to re-download everything....I have a lot of things that I downloaded (and also I believe there is other data from games that is stored on my 3DS...like Streetpass?) Anyways, any information would be great.

Yes, put your files on a PC through one SD card and then transfer them to your new SD card. Assuming of course your computer has an SD card reader built-in. Otherwise, buy a card reader.

I just moved to a 32 GB myself and just copied my 2 GB contents then pasted it into the 32 GB using my computer and so far haven't had any problems. Finally even added music finally ^.^

Who's got good prices on 32 gb sd cards? I lost mine somehow, but I'd bought it on sale and not sure what brand to get or who to buy from.

I have DoA:D dlc on my sd card too, I assume that will transfer with no problems?

32GB SDHC card for 3DS, FAT16 or 32?

Postby GamerZero » 02 May 2012 14:22

I have a 32GB SDHC class 10 card that I'm going to be reformatting with my PC so I can then use it with a 3DS. I'm wondering which file system do I use FAT16 or FAT32?

well, since fat16 only goes upto 2GB, I'm betting you should use fat32 :)

How much did that cost you. I was going to get a bigger one to replace my 8gig one. Because I got a lot of videos and it's filling up pretty quickly....

WFC DSiWare games and SD Cards

Postby HammerGalladeBro » 12 May 2012 17:28

I have a question, when you copy a DSiWare Save Data from the DSi/DSi XL/3DS (I suppose) system's memory to an SD Card, for WFC-enabled games, does it copy the WFC information as well? 'cause my memory is filling up, and I have some WFC DSiWare games, and I'm afraid for the possibility of losing my WFC info without a backup.

I think they grab the info from the system. for ds games that go online they store the access point data per game on the cart. so as long as you aren't moving systems, I think they will continue to grab the info from where it is stored on the dsi. but I don't think dsi ware will run from the sd card anyway.

3DS transfer and SD card thread

Postby Gameboy86 » 28 Jul 2012 09:09

Hi guys

I just got the 3DS XL this morning and have completed the system transfer and everything. Unfortunately, I've learned that it doesn't transfer any games you've downloaded as they appear to be specific to the 3DS they were downloaded on. Though, bizarrely, it's transferred over the DSi games like Shantae and Plants vs Monsters. But whatever, I got over this and just re redownloaded all my other 3DS/Gameboy/NES games. The only thing is, none of my save data from these games has come over. I've looked around and I've discovered that you need to put the SD card from the original 3DS into your PC, move all the data, then put the 3DS XL SD card into your PC and then move the data onto that.

Thing is, I've done exactly this and still, none of my save data is appearing. All the data for my 3DS games is intact but nothing from the older games. So I seem to be having to make a sacrifice between keeping the save data or having a larger memory card.

Is anyone else experiencing this same problem or know how to fix it?

My main concern is does the DSiWare save data transfer? Because it didn't when it went from DSi to 3DS. :(

I don't think so, because the DSiWare titles have their saves inside the games themselves, as opposed to on the card or the system. When they get transferred, all that is really happening is they delete your game (and saved) and then put a new copy of the game (with no save) on the other system.

I doubt this changed with 3DS-to-3DS, which is annoying and stupid. I want to move all my DSiWare games to my 3DS, but the fact I'll lose my progress in A Kappa's Trail and Cave Story has me unsure if I want to. Especially with how hard A Kappa's Trail is. The other games I don't care.

Oh, and Photo Dojo, since I would have to pose/get my girlfriend to pose and us do the sounds all over again. And some of the backgrounds I can't get again.

Does the SD Card have to be in the system for transfers?

Postby Serpent_Seed » 30 Jul 2012 11:42

I plan to get an XL and was wondering if I need to have the SD card in the system that I'm transferring everything from. I was hoping that I didn't and then I could take the SD card and place it in the new system and have all my icons show up.

I believe it does have to be in the original system when you are performing the transfer. However, when that transfer is over you take it out of the original and place it into the new device. If you plan on upgrading to a bigger card afterwards you simply connect it to a computer, move all the files onto the desktop, then connect the new sd car and move all the files over to that.
